When I told them all the other times he'd laid his hands on me they said "well why didn't you call us then?" And pretty much blamed me. They kicked me out of the house and he didn't get in trouble at all for dragging me all over the house and putting his hands on me. I had no family or anywhere to go in Illinois, I spent the night in my car and was given a pamphlet on Domestic Violence. I called 911 & Schaumburg Police Dept sent out a squad to help by sitting behind me and keeping a car from hitting me while we waited for a tow truck. They waited behind me until the tow truck had my car loaded on the flat bed truck and we were on our way. For all the shit you hear about the police most of them are there to serve & protect and do a great job. There are always going to be a few bad apples but probably 98% do there job. It happens every year the same thing. I call 911 and I'm transfered to the Streamwood front desk and who answer the phone - usually a woman - saying the same fraze " they're busy going to other places in Streamwood" and is not true. After 1 hour, 2 hours and hours going by they never come to my area where I live in a non stop horrible noise. The bad guys have fun because they know no police bother them. Every year the same ones do the same thing. Last year I drove to the police station at night after I called them and no police officer came in my neighborhood and all the police officers were there in their room with A/C. They're paid to do their jobs but they do nothing. The police officers in Chicago put their life in danger while here they just sit at the police station and get paid for it. I complained last year to the police chief about the war zone like I had to endure on the 4th of July but the people who cause these bombs like fireworks started a week before 4th of July and I continued another week late nights after, close to my house. Nothing changed, is horrible and how can we trust the police department when they make false statements that they'll come and give tickets to the bad guys. Now is after 11 PM and it'll go on after midnight without police ever driving by and do anything about it.

You can also ask questions; which they answer. If you have a question or issue but want privacy they hand out their cards and encourage you to contact them and yes they call back. They also teach a Citizen's Police Academy which I highly recommend; I'd take it again. Part of the class was a ride-along with an officer. He answered all my questions and explained everything he was doing. It was very interesting to be on the other side of the windshield. I've had call 911 and they have responded quickly every time.

The department has even gone as far as sending A team of officers to New York to learn new tactics to safely bring people in crisis into custody. The Elgin Police Department has also hired crisis counselors and even some officers that are certified to work with individuals with special needs. I have spoken to officers in other departments and they all recommend Elgin police to start out in.
