Hanover Park Vineyard is under new ownership, but the new owner is very welcoming. They have made updates to the facility to include pouring a nice, extended concrete patio. You can site in the sun or in the shade of the large oak trees. We like their wines and the owner is venturing out trying some new varieties. Hanover is not overcrowded like some of the local wineries have become. Worth driving out for a visit! read more

This is a wonderful winery off the beaten path. On this beautiful June day we were treated to the tunes of Incognito and some good wines. We sampled the Vogneira, Chardonnay both oaked and stainless steel barrel white wines. I felt the barrel oaked Chardonnay of the 4 wines were the best tasting. We brought our dog and chairs and set up on the lawn in the shade and went inside the beautiful old house to order our bottle of Chardonnay which they also served by the glass. Later they brought us a wine bucket to keep our wine cold, a nice touch from an attentive owner of the vineyard. We had an awesome time sipping wine in the shade and listening to great live music on a Friday evening. I walked the dog around the property and saw the big event center that they open for wedding receptions and wine dinner events. Lots of beautiful property and working vineyards. Perfect for photos. Peaceful, relaxing winery - a good choice for an afternoon wine tasting. We visited Hanover Park Vineyard during the Yadkin Yuletide Sippin Tour. Upon walking in the door we were greeted by friendly employees. They welcomed us to the winery and informed us that they offer sweet flights and dry flights. We picked one of each. We enjoyed a couple wines from each flight, including, Courtney Red and Michael's Blend. Their selection of wines were typical and of good quality. The winery has plenty of seating available outdoors, we chose to sit at a table. Dogs are allowed outside. A little while after seating, our flights were brought out to us. The employee asked us how we we were doing, if we needed anything else, and invited us to walk the vineyards if we wanted to. What a wonderful fall day we had here! We were promptly greeted by a few workers one being the owner Amy. Both ladies were very friendly. We decided to split their 2 red and 2 white flight. All of the wines were excellent and we had a hard times picking just one bottle to drink. We are typically red wine drinkers but fell for their barrel chard! I also tend to only like stainless steel chard but this barrel was the right amount of oak and butter. We had a bottle of that as we sat looking over their picturesque land. In terms of Covid they are doing great. We felt 100% safe. Everything is outside and the staff wears their mask. Also I appreciate the bucket they had to keep the wine cool. Oddly enough not a lot of wineries have them! We will def be back! Hanover Park is situated just outside of Yadkinville on the way into Davie County. Set in century old farmhouse, the vineyard has a quaint charm that is matched by its wonderful people. Some of the varietals will be familiar to wine drinkers (cab, chambourcin, and the like) while others will register for more knowledgeable drinkers (mourvedre!). The wines are well crafted, complex, and tasty. They do a sangria, which is a perfect choice on a hot summer day out in the "yard". The also do some interesting sweeter offerings, including a nice blueberry. Overall, this is a great stop in the Yadkin Valley! read more

What a beautiful winery. Last weekend I went on a mom's day out winery tour and Hanover Park was our first stop. The setup for our tasting was so lovely. We all sat around an old wooden table in a beautifully decorated room with the cutest pup ever hanging out at our feet. The owner was very knowledgeable and we all shared stories. There was not a single wine I did not like. My favorites were the sweeter/dessert wines like the Blueberry and the Port. We did not stay long after our tasting because we were in a hurry that day as we had two other stops.. but I look forward to going again soon with my husband and hanging out longer. Had a great Sunday brunch today at Hanover Park, courtesy of Honeysuckle Food Truck. Even though it was a rainy Sunday, there was plenty of seating inside to sit, eat and enjoy the live music. It wasn't too loud to where you couldn't converse, but very enjoyable. We ordered brunch from the food truck and it was great! While we waited on our meal, we did the 5 wines for $5 tasting (which is a great value, especially since the glass is included!) you get to choose the 5 that you want to taste, plenty of dry white, dry red and semi-sweet to sweet varietals as well. Mary did our tasting and she was so nice and knowledgeable. I really enjoy learning about the wine and she did great answering our questions as well. (Disclaimer: I'm a rather critical judge of wines and wineries.) We've been going to Hanover Park since we first moved to the Triad area 6+ years ago because its always a wonderful experience. Michael and Amy Helton are former art teachers with a love of wine and sharing with others. After a honeymoon trip to France, they decided to open their own vineyard and winery. Atmosphere: The tasting room is located in an old farmhouse built in 1897. (One of their elite reds is actually named 1897). The Heltons have done such a great job rehabbing the building and making the outdoor patio spaces so enjoyable it sort of draws you into just sitting back and relaxing while enjoying more wine. They have also created an indoor space that can handle 40ish people for special events and such. There is an outbuilding that provides space for a band, dancing and other celebrations. Amy is almost always present in the tasting room sharing great insights on their wines, experiences and stories of their journey. Michael is generally out in the fields or the winery working on future releases. My sense is that he's a bit of perfectionist when it comes to his wines and commits his time to creating the best product he can. As a bonus, you'll likely be met at the door by Pearl the resident Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is just the sweetest lil pup! Wines: Obviously, this is where the rubber meets the road. Typically, there is around 14 or so wines available. The breakdown is close to 3-4 whites, 5-6 reds and 5-6 dessert/fortified wines. In my opinion, HP's reds are their strength. In particular their Mouvedre and Chambourcin are standouts among the single varietal regular offerings. Given how few wineries in NC grow Mouvedre (and how well HP does it), I recommend heading to Hanover just for it. Also, of superior quality is the (quickly becoming famous) Michael's Blend. This blend is tweaked each vintage by Michael and it has always been very good. They also produce 2 excellent high-end red blends, the 1897 and the HP Reserve. These are limited runs aged for multiple years in oak. While the mainline reds run around $16, these elites hit the $30-$40 range so are definitely special occasion wines. On the white side, you'll usually see an unoaked and an oaked Chardonnay and Viognier. Of these, the unoaked Chard and Viognier are my preferences and run around $15. HP also has a number of sweet dessert and fortified wine options. Given the popularity of sweet wines in NC I'm sure they do well for the winery and I have to confess to a secret love of the Blueberry. It's probably my favorite fruit wine in the state! My suggestion: Go. And go with enough time built in to chat up Amy and team, sit outside with a bottle or glass and relax =) read more

I enjoy visiting this vineyard, it isn't too far away from Winston-Salem but it feels like a long way. The old farm house where the tasting room sits is classic. Old plank flooring and a big front porch. plus the owner Amy is knowledgeable and willing to talk with you. As far as the wines go Michaels Blend is pretty good but try to pop in for the sangria on the weekends, it pretty tasty! read more

This winery stands out to me for how welcoming and sweet the staff was when we arrived. I was with three others and we all had a great time. The atmosphere is so cool with the rustic farmhouse and multiple areas to hang out outside. I took home some of their 2013 Michael's Blend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Of all the wineries in the Yadkin Valley region, this was the only one that stood out, 8 years apart! We visited back in 2003 or 2004 and fondly remembered the location, company, and their wines. So when we planned a romantic weekend in Winston-Salem this past July we knew we wanted to go back and visit Hanover Park. The only significant change was a new dog to meet us at the door. We had a lovely conversation with the owner, tried their wines, and bought enough to last us for a few weeks. We're hoping we won't have to wait another 8 years to go back :) Thankfully their vintages are available online as well. Don't judge this place by it's exterior. Just b/c it's not all done up like the big places, Raylen for example, doesn't mean it's not an excellent winery. I love this place. The old farmhouse has such charm its unbelievable. They have some realy cute wine related gifts you could get for people, which is a fun find. Everytime we have gone, Amy has been in the tasting room letting people know about how the vineyard got started - which is exactly the low key home grown feel I want when visiting a vineyard. She explains the differences in all the wine and really teaches you about making it and different styles. A few times we've been there - their dog is there too (cant remember his name) - hes sooooo cute and friendly! The outdoor space is great as well. My favorite is their unoaked chardonnay, but really you should try everything. read more

Amy and Wendy were just terrific. From the outside, this place may not look all super fancy like some of the others in area, but wait until Ms Pearl greets you! She is their resident furry greeter and inside the winery, Amy and Micheal's passion and love for their product shines through. It was first time there on Friday with my family and I was so pleased. They make primarily dry whites and reds which just reflect their great french influences and I promise you will not be disappointed. The Viognier and the 1897 are must haves! I was here recently with a small group and the one thing we all loved was the amazing farmhouse. The staff that greeted us was very friendly and not overbearing like other places I've been. That, however, it about where the positives stop. Due to Covid they were not offering traditional tastings which we completely understood. The alternative was a flight tasting with a glass brought to the table in case you decided you wanted more. Each of the four cups had about 2oz in it. Out of the people in our group none of us found anything we liked and I would go so far as to say everything was underwhelming and mediocre at best. Personal taste and preferences aside, we go to pay for our tastings and all of us carry the branded glass with us to the checkout where they were taken from us. I assumed that meant our tasting was going to be relatively inexpensive since we weren't getting to keep our souvenir stemware. Boy was I wrong! Each one of us paid $15 for what equated to 8oz of wine that most of us didn't even finish drinking! I could have bought an entire bottle of perfectly palatable wine from the freaking grocery store for less than that! I commend the couple who own this vineyard for following a long time dream but our over priced and disappointing first experience here will be our last. We'll stick to one of the other options in the area when we decide to drink local. read more

Hanover Park was established in 1996, with the retail/tasting area situated in a farmhouse built in 1897, beautifully restored to retain its original character. The owners are clearly accomplished winemakers and have a small but extremely personable staff to take care of visitors. Their wines rate among some of the best I've had in the region, including a couple of reserve blends that were produced under unique conditions and will never come around again. They have several excellent dry reds and only a handful of whites. I was especially taken with their Chambourcin, Mouvedre, and a 2006 blend called Michael's, made of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Again, it was almost too hot to enjoy being outdoors, but we braved the oppressive temperatures to enjoy a glass in their very scenic front yard. For sheer character and charm, not to mention quality of product, Hanover Park is one of the best. read more
