Danny, Hugo and Kainoa were awesome instructors and had me catching waves within 15 minutes of being on the water. I'm so glad our group did the lessons!! So worth it!! I would definitely come back for another round as a graduate ‍ of Hans Hedeman Surf School.

My kids (6 and 8) were nervous and stubborn about trying surfing for the first time. Jamie and Strider did an amazing job making them feel at ease and of course as soon as they got on the board they LOVED it. Bryson and Jonah even got mom and dad to catch some waves too! Thanks to the amazing staff here - we will be back again (it's already booked!)

I had the pleasure of taking some classes from Hanz and his staff during Wanderlust. The whole experience from start to finish was awesome! Fun, knowledgeable staff. I highly recommend them for any of your water pleasures

Large selection of rash guards and water shoes to use

This review is for the Keiki Adventure at the Turtle Bay Resort in the Fabled North Shore. Checking in was a breeze. First off is the rash guard and water shoe fitting from their large selection. Then Rocky the guide was off with the kids. Three hours later, the kids all showed up in the back of a pickup with huge smiles on their faces. They were exhausted, and had a great time. How did I know? They absolutely did not miss us at all! They threw in a photo CD at no cost. Way kool!

Great coaches, all 3 of them. Very professional and patient. I had the luck to closely see a huge turtle too!

We had our lesson @ 10AM. Great timing in my opinion, it gets hot out there.

He explained everything in a way that made it easy and not intimidating at all. This was my boys' VERY FIRST time surfing ever, and they both got up and rode waves ‍ It was the coolest thing to watch--they were so fearless and had the best time. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. If you're even thinking about surf lessons, this is 100% the place. Andy is awesome

We ended up having to spend about 10 minutes driving to another spot, where the waves were still very small. The lesson also consistently ended almost 10 minutes early to take photos, even though we never requested or asked for photos. I would much rather have that time used for actual instruction. More importantly, I did not feel that the instructor was paying close attention to the student. He often looked away from the student and seemed more focused on relaxing and looking down into the ocean rather than actively watching and teaching. There was also very little constructive instruction once we were in the water. Overall, the experience did not feel professional or worth the money. I would not recommend this surf lesson to others.

I booked two-hour lessons, and each session left me with new insights and things to work on. All the instructors were engaged and observant throughout the lessons, providing continuous feedback, encouragement, and helpful tips. Whenever I had questions, they were attentive and took the time to give thorough, detailed answers. It was especially great learning from instructors who clearly enjoy what they do. Their passion and enthusiasm made the lessons even more enjoyable, and I left each session feeling like I had learned something new. Would definitely recommend Ty Gurney Surf School to anyone looking to learn, have fun, and/or make unforgettable memory :-)

They have easy online booking options and they sent you an email right away to sign a waiver. It's a little hard to find as it's between the Denny's and a parking lot, so just be vigilant while walking. They have a little shop with a receptionist and the instructors. There's a QR code for tipping your instructors which was convenient considering you're so tired after the lesson. I felt comfortable leaving all my stuff in the office (even shoes) as we walked across the street to the beach. My instructor, James, first practiced my footing, head placement, and movement. Then we paddled out, and he held my board the entire time. I got to enjoy the view prop my head on my board and give Ms. America waves even though no one was looking. That alone is worth all the money. James gave me tips and tricks each wave he pushed me in. Telling me to balance more on the right foot, etc. I felt like I had also paid to hang out with someone really cool. The vibes on the break were so chill. Everyone knew each other and were respectful with waves of hello and aloha. This is a must do in Waikiki. The waves were so soft on my beginner board and they have a 99.9% rate of success. James said he was able to help a 84 year old catch and stand up in a wave. Remarkable!!! I caught six waves and it felt incredible. I'm wiped out and exhausted, but so satisfied and excited for my next lesson. What a treat! I highly recommend Ty Gurney- ask for James!!
