For any beginner, this IS IT!! Amazing instructors (Mike and Zoey). They walk you through everything and help you keep calm which is essentially #1 (besides breathing). They dont rush you to their schedule and encourage you to do whatever makes you comfortable including going back up on the boat if needed. They have great technique and skills to share to make it an easier and safer experience for everyone. I found water consistently going into my goggles and Mike gave me his without thinking. Their confidence comes across and naturally makes you feel more at ease. They took amazing photos of everyone scuba diving and showed us a bunch of cool things as well: spotted eel and cushion pin starfish! If it's your first time going, don't even think twice. My 13-year old son took a dive course with Zoey in June of 2024 and got SCUBA certified. He said of Zoey: She was kind and an excellent instructor. She was attentive to his needs, went over everything thoroughly. On the their first dive together, she brought a veteran diver with her to assist. No dives. No refund. No communication after our vacation ended. He strung us along all week, then completely disappeared once we left the island. This wasn't a mistake--it was theft. He knew exactly what he was doing. It's a complete scam. It's heartbreaking and infuriating to see someone bring this kind of dishonesty to the islands. It's the exact opposite of the aloha spirit people come here to experience. He should be ashamed of himself. Do not trust this man. Do not give him your money. Is this even a legit business??? This smells like a fly-by-night pop-up. I drove by the Google address and there isn't anything there. They took my money and haven't returned multiple calls, txts or emails for days now. I drove by the Google address and there is no dive shop there. There are a lot of great dive operators on the island of Oahu, but this one is more than a little bit sketchy. I was looking to dive North Shore Oahu, so I called North Shore Dive shop. (Seemed a logical choice, right?). They responded to my initial email up front and told me that a boat dive may not work out due to weather on the north shore. But they told me that there was a sheltered beach dive backup nearby if a boat dive was not possible. I went ahead and reserved two days of diving 48 hours apart and paid for everything in advance. Once our flight touched down on Oahu, I was notified that the dive for the next morning had been moved to the exact opposite side of the island, (South Shore). That is at least an hour and a half drive away, and that's without any traffic. When I asked about a refund I was told they would call back. I was kind and never rude on the phone, but I explained that a geographical relocate like that makes a 3 hour dive trip into a whole day excursion. And without a rental car, transport is an issue for me too. If I had wanted to dive south shore, I would have booked a boat dive out of Honolulu instead of a beach dive on the North Shore. I wanted to stay on the North side of the island, thus I had chosen "North Shore Dive Shop". They said they would call me back. Of course I never got a call back. And they went "Ghost" on me, not answering any txt messages or emails . The phone number on the website and confirmation emails goes to some person with a full voicemail box. There is no way to contact anyone. The only communication I received was an email confirmation for my second dive 48 hours after the first dive was moved. Of course this dive was also a beach dive and also on the exact opposite side of the island. I had no opportunity to take advantage of their cancellation policy for the second dive because they would not respond to call, txts or emails for 3 full days beforehand. As I write this, I still have not heard from them despite days of leaving phone messages, emails and txts. I would understand just saying no to any refunds due to weather conditions. It is actually windy out, (as it ALWAYS is windy on the North Shore). But I don't think ghosting legitimate customers after collecting full fees is an acceptable way to do business. No trust here, diving is too dangerous a thing to put your life in the hands of a sketchy outfit. read more

I worked with Mike to rent some gear a few years back. The service was great. I happened to drive off and leave my stuff at the parking lot by sharks cove. Didn't realize until an hour later. I called telling him sorry but I'd have to buy him some new gear. An unethical person could have taken advantage of me. He went back to the parking lot and found and said I could have it longer because I missed some time. This type of ethical customer service is rare!!! Such a fun trip! This was my sons first ocean dive after getting certified and Mike made it such an amazing trip. We went to sharks cove and did a two tank dive. Mike led us around the cathedral and showed us what diving in Oahu is all about. We saw a ray, turtle, reef shark, nudibranch, eel, an octopus, and tons of fish. We will be back for sure and I would highly recommend this dive shop to anyone who wants to experience how amazing diving Hawaii is whether you are a new diver or old :) read more

i scheduled 4 dives with them last August. 2 shore and 2 boat. Did the shore dives and then told the boat cancelled. Given a choice to reschedule or do shore dives. Couldn't reschedule as most people are not there long term so I did the shore dives. I was told I would get refunded the difference but never did. Zoe was awesome, very kind, and really good to dive with. I would give another star but after not receiving a refund and then an email fiasco a couple weeks ago due to a "disgruntled employee," I don't think I can. Everyone's emails were included on a public email from this shop and was not appreciated. Bad enough with all the fraud in the world, I don't need more people with my email. read more

I had the best morning snorkeling with Zoë and my bestie! The trip was very personalized and specific to my friend and I and Zoë is my new friend! I was expecting a big group and the typical tour but this was completely different--small and personalized. The water at Sharks Cove was perfect, crystal clear, and we swam with some turtles, parrotfish, butterfly fish, yellow tangs, convict tangs, trumpet fish, and chubs!! We saw pencil urchins and Zoë will explain the ecosystem and the snorkel site and will identify all the aquatic flora and fauna. She is super attentive to beginners like myself to ensure you feel comfortable and I am definitely going back. We chose the lunch option and the shrimp and garlic from the food truck was exactly the thing to finish off our trip. Photos were included in the tour with Zoē and she will send them all to you! read more

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS SHOP. They were a no-show. Did not send any communication about a cancellation, and when I called their number it was an invalid number. This is either a scam business, or so irresponsible that they don't bother to communicate with their paying clientele critical information. I drove almost an hour from Honolulu at 5:30 in the morning to get to the site that they told me to be at. I met another lovely couple there who like me, had been there at 6:30 in the morning per instruction, and now we were all standing there wondering if we had been scammed. The couple had asked a dive master on site who has been diving in the area for 17 years, and she had not heard of this shop. Whether it's a scam or just terrible management, you don't want to entrust your safety and life scuba diving with a shop that operates like this. STEER CLEAR, there are plenty of dive shops on the island. read more

Had a pretty good experience with North Shore Dive Shop. Originally we were scheduled for a shore dive but the conditions weren't cooperating, so the owner Mike offered us a boat dive instead. The dive itself with Zoe was great, saw tons of marine life and the site we dove at was gorgeous. There were a few things that could be improved though. First, Mike didn't inform us they would be charging us more when offering to switch us to the boat dive. It makes sense that a boat dive costs more, but it would have been better to make sure we knew there would be an extra charge before rebooking us. Second, we shared the boat with at least two other dive companies and it was a bit cramped, and a little hectic figuring out which of the dive leaders from the various companies was doing what at any given time. We stopped at one spot and had to wait for a group from a different company to do their entire dive before moving on to a different spot for ours. Overall a good experience with a few speed bumps. read more

Awesome experience diving with Mike! We were there for a week and got 5 dives in. Mike was super accommodating to our weird schedules. He only takes out very small groups (4 max) which is unlike other companies, and soooo freakin nice. He creates a stress free environment, and is easy to get along with. His dive equipment is all very new & professional. I felt safe and stoked diving with it. Mike's great at reading you and what you want out of your dive. He's professional, but also super laid back/ stress free, which is what you want out of an instructor. He took us to some unique spots, and we saw pretty much everything we hoped to see. Plus he has good recommendations on food. We will def be diving with NSDS whenever we come to the North Shore! read more

We did a snorkel rental with North Shore Dive Shop and it was a fabulous experience! Called their phone # on our way up to the North Shore and spoke to Mike, who took our shoe size info and said he'd meet us at our location - Shark's Cove - in a few minutes. We arrived to find him with our snorkel gear, which fit perfectly, and he went the extra mile to share his insider knowledge about the location - which trail to take, which way to swim to avoid the rocks and other great tips. We spent a couple hours exploring Shark's Cove and the beautiful diversity of colorful fish in the crystal-clear turquoise waters - highly recommend. Fantastic experience! The team at North Shore Dive Shop are professional from start to finish, and their focus on providing a personal touch to small groups is awesome. As an Advanced Open Water diver with a little over a year of experience, I'm somewhere in between a new student and a seasoned diver. Even though I wasn't her student, I asked Zoe to give me pointers along the way to keep improving my skills, and she did so with style and grace. After two weekends and four great dives, not only did I get to experience all that North Shore diving has to offer, but I also improved my buoyancy, breathing technique, streamlining, and overall diver knowledge. Additionally, Zoe took a relaxed pace and was keen to point out all kinds of sea life the average diver might overlook. My final dive was the longest, most relaxing dive I've ever had.
