    Great little boutique ingredients store

We seem to be on the endless search for a decent coffee near our place that we can nip in and out with a takeaway. Some places have started out awesome and others just never quite impressed on first visit. For me Hansel and Gretel is a standout cafe located just near Gaythorne station. Think funky retro with an earthy vibe. It's 70's crockery reminds me of my childhood and the fabulous storybook mural of goldenbook tales reinforces that. The staff are friendly and helpful and as Lani P said don't be thinking they're spending their day playing on their phones, it's just the smart ordering system they have in place taking advantage of existing technology. The coffee is genovese and I've found both my eat in and takeaways tone well flavored, although I wouldn't say amazing. Our first visit we also ate breakfast, and found our meals to be good but not great. Mainly due to the baked eggs being very oily and loaded with semi-cooked chorizo which could have been executed better. I'm prepared to forgive a little though for the stinking hot day it was and will give it a second go soon. I love that they have a broad range of gluten free cakes, treats and loaves on offer and the menu really is a broad range of great choices. Think homey, satisfying foods and more than one option which will have you taking a trip down memory lane or licking your lips at the variety with options like waffles, ice cream (for breakfast yes!), vegetable fritters, pulled pork, or hickory smoked ham. The option to build your own breakfast shows this is a kitchen that is not afraid to work with what you want. There is limited parking at the front but more on offer out the back. Not to be confusing but Hansel and Gretel shares the Gypsy Wagon space and vice versa so there is plenty of dining space for the busy weekends, oh and there is air-con in one half of the restaurant too.

Amazing coffee! The retro cups create a funky feel too!

The best seat in the house is perched upon a replica Tolix stool overlooking the canopy of Everton Hills. It's a brilliant spot to stop, sip your coffee, and ready yourself for the day ahead. For a simple but satisfying breakfast, opt for the arepa with scrambeled eggs. It does the trick and won't weigh you down. And Mums. The best news is for you. With welcoming outdoor seating this cafe is prime for Mother's Group catch ups. There's plenty of space to wheel your pram around and kids can play in the play area while you enjoy some adult conversation!

I say that…read morewith an air of surprise due to my current disappointing experiences with other cafes in the general area. The cafe is located at the back of the IGA complex with a generous outdoor patio area away from the main road. There is a concerted effort by the cafe to green up their area with plants (recently rejuvenated with spring on the way) and it really helps to break up the usual car park feel so many cafes can have in shopping centres. For families with young kids there is a great little section set up with plenty of toys to keep your little ones occupied. Having been here a few times I feel like I can confidently say that the food that we've had has been really good and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a great place for breakfast or lunch. There is a slightly Spanish bent to many things but also plenty for those just wanting a snack or something straight forward. I do find the coffee a little inconsistent depending on who is making it, not that it has bad flavor but more that the milk is over heated, perhaps that is just my personal preference though. The service is friendly and prompt regardless of weekday or weekend visits which is important. I just wish they were open on Sunday's and public holidays as we'd probably frequent them more than we do now. All in all this addition to the local cafe scene is a vey welcome one for us in Everton Hills and somewhere I would recommend if you're in the area.

A special deal is offered prior to 8am - coffee (large size) and a breakfast burger or wrap for $15.50 which is great value. Try the big breakfast where there is a choice of bacon, salmon or Haloumi. Cosy airconditioned indoor area plus the option of outside seating. Staff are friendly with a proprietor who obviously loves what he does! Ample parking right at the door. With Campos coffee, perfect poached eggs, and just the right amount of delicious hollandaise on the eggs benny, this is a cafe that we will gladly cross town for again and again. They offer breakfast to 1130 and the cafe was packed when we arrived just before 1100. We grabbed a table outside and it was a cool Brisbane Winter day so we took advantage of the blankets Luckily a table opened up and we could ditch the blankets and enjoy our breakfast inside. It was quite noisy inside and the screaming kid didn't help, but once the large family groups left it was a lovely place to relax with a great coffee and fantastic breakfast.

It's entirely possible we came here 5 weekends in a row! So it's fair to say this is definitely going on the list of favourite brunch places. Consistently: the food is delicious, the coffee is good (they do BOWLS!), the staff are lovely and efficient, the place is big enough that you can usually easily get a table, and there is plenty of street parking around. And it's less than a 10 minute drive from our house. Bonus. They have a range of breakfast & lunch items on the weekend - sweet, savoury, and hearty smoothies or juices - and they are open til 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays, which I like because it means you can come in for a proper lunch instead of just a very late breakfast (sometimes it's just difficult to get out of the house before midday on a Sunday, you know?). They will also try to accommodate any specific dietary requirements, some are marked on the menu but if you can't see it then just ask and they'll work something out if they can. I came here with my mother on one occasion and she was happy, despite her ever-expanding range of food intolerances, so that's quite an achievement. Word of warning though - the Famish'd breakfast (basically the equivalent of a 'big breakfast' anywhere) is GIGANTIC. Order it only if you're prepared to be in a food coma for the rest of the afternoon.

We both ordered the Rusty Breakfast which was massive, but I was so disappointed with the barely warmed up bacon. I'm sure that there must be some people that like their bacon like this, barely cooked with no colour and not a hint of crispiness, but I am definitely not one of them and I pushed it aside. This would have been an awesome breakfast with some delicious crispy bacon, and if we were to go back I'd have to ask if they can cook crispy bacon before ordering as it was such a let down compared to the rest of the meal.

Waited about an hour for our two meals (not sure if it was because we moved tables but that wasn't long after we sat on the first ones) Others who arrived after us, had received their foods and even left. When they realised they messed up, the waitress was really nice to offer us free drinks and 20% off. Was really humbled to hear that and it was good they took responsibility and reprimanded it. Fried chicken and waffles was a bit of a disappointment. Chicken was a bit dry, skin didn't have a nice batter and was too oily. Waffles were too bready and over drizzled with the maple syrup. Bacon was nice though. Think it's a great idea to have on the menu but the chicken should be southern battered fried chicken, waffles should be thinner and crunchy and not so much maple syrup. Got our meals discounted so was I happy. Keen to come back and give them another chance till I decide to become a regular. Rooting for you guys!
