This is a great market. Especially for the area. It's a little pricey. But worth it. Great customer service. The bakery is phenomenal.

Part of Hansen Food's competitive edge is their wine steward. You're rolling your eyes: all a guy's got do is choose red or white, pick a price range - say, under $15 - then grab any bottle 'cause they all taste the same. Tell Hansen's steward that and a couple things more, and she'll suggest sure-fire winners. I told her Diane's likes: pinot grigio or gris, but not Italian (they're too acidic). I like a merlot or pinot noir. The steward proposed wines we'd have never thought of. For Diane, Protea and Verterra pinot grigios and a Saint-Lannes blend. For me, Danaus and Solroom reds and a Comtesse de Malet Bordeaux. They've been delicious! One more thing you're thinking: the steward will steer a customer toward expensive wines. Not Hansen's steward. I told her I'm frugal because I'm on a pension. She proposed wines which were $15 or less after the case discount. Bottom line: when it came to wines, the steward and I saw eye to eye. Which is remarkable for an unexpected reason: I'm 6'5"; Hansen's steward, a woman, is nearly as tall. read more

Hanson's is the Bomb! Best Northern Michigan grocery market, bar none! Lots of local everything and Michigan made products for locals and tourists alike. Beautifully laid out produce, roomy, clean and decorated with vintage and historical items, so cool. Texas Tornados playing on the sound system, it was a surreal experience. We have never been so happy and excited to shop in a local market as we were today. Add a great deli, excellent sea food selection and friendly staff and I have to give Hanson's 5 stars. I would give them 6, if I could! Whether you live in Northern Michigan or just happen to be visiting, if you are anywhere near Sutton's Bay, I highly recommend you check out Hanson's and grab some local or other Michigan goodies to try or take home! read more

Hansen's is a great small grocery store with knowledgeable help in all the sections including wine. You can find almost anything you need and they do a great job serving the surrounding community. A little higher prices than Meijer's, Costco, or Tom's but understandable. I will always support them and want them to be here and be successful. read more

One of everything. They might not have everything you are looking for but it will be close. Great selection of wine and beer. Some local produce. Good local smoked fish. Decent meat selections. They might not have the exact cuts you're after, but you'll likely find something that will work. Store layout is a bit random but it's small enough you'll be down every aisle anyway. Hansens's is quite a lovely little grocery store located very near the village of Suttons Bay. For vacationers to the area and locals (of course), Hansen's will most likely have what you need for that day at the beach, picnic, or just plain old regular groceries week to week. It'll save you the madness of Meijer and provides a bit more of a local feel than shopping at a huge chain in TC. Plus, no traffic for the most part! My mom and I ordered a sandwich platter and fruit bowl from the deli counter for Sunday lunch -- and while the sandwiches felt a bit lackluster to me (just nothing special, but surely fresh and totally fine) the fruit bowl was outstanding. Even the lady at the register exclaimed 'WOW! This fruit looks amazing!" And it was! Deli items are a bit pricey, but you are paying for the convenience and it being a smaller store. They have a very good liquor/wine/beer selection with many local options, and even a sommelier at times that will help you with your choices. They've got just about anything you'd need -- though of course not the 47 brands of ketchup like at Meijer, but honestly -- who needs 47 choices!? Just need ketchup. The staff is what you'd expect - extremely friendly. They make nice conversation, the bagboy offered multiple times to help me to my car (I had less than one bag!) and all around just really nice folks. If you are from the big city on vacation, try your best to do the same! In a pinch and don't want to drive to TC for supplies? Stay in Leelanau County - this is your spot. read more

Very rude staff. A male staff member thought it was ok to follow around me and my friend (we both are young girls). Also, an old lady working at the cash register talked to us in a very disgusting and just disrespectful tone. Will not be returning to Hansen's Foods ever again. read more

Pretty much all of my co-workers rave about this shop (we work like 5 min away). I decided to go and check it out for myself one day when I forgot my lunch at home in East Bay, typical genius move. Awesome deli, seemed sorta confusing to order things behind the counter but there were plenty of appetizing take away options; hummus, greek food, mexican foods, beautiful fruit etc. There is a smaller produce section at this grocery store. However, as they are located in a smaller town I totally get that. There are quite a few farm stands in the area too so that may be a factor, who really knows. There is also a good selection of snack goods, candy, wines, and household products. Overall, a good shop for this size of a town. Pretty proportional and worth a stop if you are in the area and need groceries, they pretty much have the corner on the market being the only grocer in town. read more

Several workers in the deli act like they hate their jobs and are most unpleasant. I stood waiting at the counter for several minutes while one person sliced meat and two others acted busy visiting with friends. I ended up walking away. I would have anyway because the guy handling all the food had a very long beard and no cover. GROSS. Not buying any unpackaged food from there ever! read more

Good selection of fresh produce, but we wouldn't call it gourmet or extremely locally focused. They carried some local cheese, coffee and wine, but not what we were looking for. When you need a better selection of food way up in the little finger head to Hanson's. They stock INTERESTING meats (pork trotters anyone?) and a wider variety of cheeses and deli. The rotisserie chicken is a option for nights you don't want to cook. read more

Neat little grocery store, the perfect size for the community it serves with a pretty darn good selection of products as well. Also, I was pleasantly surprised that the prices weren't outrageous given that Sutton's Bay is a tourist destination. All in all, if you're renting a house near Sutton's Bay and need a place to grab a few things (and don't require a Meijer/Walmart sized store) this is the place to head! read more

Nice little grocery store for the town of Suttons Bay. I know so many people who work here! Hansen's usually has everything i need! They have a great variety of produce, wines and other beverages and the deli is awesome, along with everything else there! The checkout is usually kind of crowded, they have 3 or 4 checkout line but other than that the place is great! read more
