We stayed a few blocks away on Lake Leland and pretty much visited NJ's every day as inevitably someone in our household of 7 guests needed snacks, beer, or more grocery items to make a meal. The selection isn't huge as they have a smaller footprint but we found pretty much everything we needed in this small town market. Candy, Sprite, and s'mores fixin's for my little cousin, blueberries and oatmeal for my grandma, beer for my husband and uncle, frozen soft pretzels and mustard for my aunt, brats making sausage and peppers for the group for my mom, and Moomers ice cream and cans of Bubly for me. Prices were decent, especially for a smaller market, and they had a surprising amount of locally made goods. Produce selection was a little small (we had to go into Sutton's Bay to get oranges, for example) but all pantry items we needed were easy to find. The shop, because it's small, makes checking out a little challenging when there are more than a few folks in there. At one point my mom and I were looking at the ice cream selection and a line of about 4 people filed behind us. We didn't realize the coolers were adjacent to the second cash register! Navigating out was a challenge but everyone was very kind about it. Admittedly, though I read the amazing reviews for their Indian eats, we did not get any. But I'm definitely game to try it out next time. read more

Leelanau Peninsula can be hard to find quick food options, and sometimes hard to find food at all! This little gem is right in the middle, and is the perfect spot to stop during a day of wine tasting. They have refrigerated, house made Indian food to go and it is so good! They also said they'd make fresh samosas if we'd like to wait 20 minutes. We did not, but I'm sure they would have been delicious because all 6 of the dishes we tried were awesome. read more

We got a pleasant surprise in an unlikely place with great people. We really enjoyed indian food and the best we've ever had in this small town and I was impressed by the homemade taste. We have ordered Shahi Paneer, Dal Makhani, Roti and Rice. There was no tables or a place to sit and eat but they did great arrangement in garden area for us to sit and eat well. They have provided great hospitality along with food. I will definately be returning to this place. I just love these people!! read more

Old fashioned local grocery store. Great variety, reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Good selection of dry and canned goods. Fresh meats. Local vegetables, chips and ice cream. We are here for a week and this grocery has all we need for the meals we will cook in the rental. They also have home made India style foods. What an amazing find. Some of the best Indian Food I have had. We went for the Samosa and they were so good we went back a few days later for a full Indian meal. Nj's grocery store offers a great selection with an option of made fresh if they are around. We had veggie and chix pilau, spinach and cheese, samosas and cauliflower/potatoes. Not just the only Indian food in the area- but possibly the best I've ever had! They have some items ready togo but they also have a menu you can order off of. Order well in advance- for everything is made from scratch. If you need a lot of food (parties 4 or more) maybe a day before. Mali kafta, korma, samosas, naan bread , saag paneer, and chickpeas are some of my favorites. Does not come with rice so be sure to order separately so you can soak up the goodness! Seriously good Indian food. If you had told me we would have found a great Indian food in northern Michigan in a grocery store I would've laughed. However, I would've been wrong! Every single item that we bought from here was amazing! The saag paneer was spot on and the tiki masala was really good. The daal was great as was the chickpea curry. They have great Indian food to go in the small refrigerated case near the registers. Thank goodness for Karl S - a yelp search of Indian food brought up this obscure, slightly out of the way grocery. We didn't know what to expect - the grocery is quite small, more of a convenience store size, but they actually offered quite a bit. We called ahead, and the nice lady prepared 2 chicken tikka masala for us. They also have a menu that you can take and call in orders ahead of time. There's quite a bit of selection at really reasonable prices. I believe they also cater. read more
