My friends and I went to Afton this past weekend for a quick getaway. Before the trip, I did some research on local coffee roasters, and Happ Coffee was easily at the top of my list. On our way to our Airbnb, a friend and I stopped by Happ, which is located inside an industrial-style building that's incredibly spacious. There's plenty of seating, along with a dedicated area where beans are available for purchase. The barista was really friendly, and we ended up having an in-depth conversation about drink recommendations. When I settled on a cappuccino, he walked me through how each milk option paired with the espresso. I ultimately chose whole milk since it doesn't have an overpowering flavor like almond milk, which allowed the light-roast espresso (an optional upgrade) to really shine. I didn't fully enjoy the cappuccino during the first couple sips because the mouthfeel of the whole milk felt a bit too thick, which didn't pair well with the light roast. However, it became more harmonious as I continued drinking, and the highlight was definitely the bright sweetness of the espresso. I really appreciate a coffee shop that pulls a light-roast espresso well. The barista asked for my thoughts, which I shared, and he then pulled me a shot using their South Paw (house espresso blend) beans to try. I thoroughly enjoyed this light-medium espresso, which was bright and strong, without the unpleasant acidity or bitterness that often follows. I don't typically recommend ordering a straight espresso shot at most coffee shops, but Happ does it well. Overall, it was a great experience -- lovely coffee and friendly baristas who genuinely care about their craft. I left with one of their limited-release coffees (a Peruvian Geisha), which I'm looking forward to trying as a pour-over at home. read more

I met a couple of friends there in the mid afternoon. I was surprised by the many people who were there. I had a big lunch so I got a flavored seltzer but tasted my friends energy balls. She loves them, I thought it was just alright. It was very noisy with all the people and someone was banging on the hinges of the front door. We had some important things to discuss and the noise was making it nearly impossible. I would like to try it again another time and get a coffee drink. read more

I absolutely love this place. It is so adorable! I tried the campfire latte and it was amazing. We did not try any of the food or pastries but it looks very good. The vibes are top tier. They also have this cute little "shopping corner" thing. It's just a collection of random gift or souvenir type items, but it's so cute. Excellent coffee! Stopped by after seeing they had interesting coffee options on their menu. The strawberry vanilla latte did not disappoint. Definitely top 3 favorite. It was lightly sweetened, well balanced flavors and perfectly blended along with being made to look pretty. The cafe itself is very comfortable. It's inside a large industrial building that appears to be getting built out to have more shops. Even though it was busy it was very quiet so a great spot to work out of. The roastery appears to be in the building as well. They offer food too which I'll try next time I'm in the area. read more

I love to see Waynesboro growing and adding new businesses, while Happ isn't new, it's certainly a great addition. And more businesses are opening in the same building. We were craving pastries, so we ordered the morning bun (fancy cinnamon roll), which was warmed up and came with a side of icing. We loved the infused lemony flavor. The space is out of a repurposed warehouse. It's spacious and modern inside. Next trip, I will try one of their coffee specialities and/or brunch items. read more

Two and a half stars. Found this place while looking for Farmhaus, which they replaced. Spacious parking lot with one-way entry/exit, cute space and great pastry options. We didn't have enough time to wait for composed breakfast foods, but they seemed like a popular option for other customers, along with sweetened coffee beverages. The sesame pear danish we got was so good that we thought about grabbing a second pastry while waiting for our coffee order. I usually drink drip coffee black, but ended up adding a splash of half-and-half to my iced coffee because it tasted too strongly of coffee cherries. The cappuccino we got wasn't very good either. We probably won't be back for a caffeine fix the next time we're in Waynesboro. read more

Cute space for coffee shop and to do work, pretty spacious too with indoor and outdoor seating options. I like their iced shaken espresso or iced dirty chai and the avocado toast. Only negative is it's pretty pricey for it not being full service , the iced coffee and food combined is about $20. You go up and get your food and drinks and also clear your own plates. There's a little gift shop inside which is nice. There's lots of room for parking which is nice. read more

You can tell they put so much effort and love into making this shop a special place to go in Waynesboro! The atmosphere is great if you want a date, study sesh, business meeting, whatever. While we only tried the morning bun and some coffee, I was surprised at the quantity of service and food. The staff were kind, though they seemed slightly distracted talking amongst themselves .vs responding to customers but when they did respond, they were fantastic. The morning bun was really good. Imagine a crescent and cinnamon roll combined with some very liquid icing to dip it in. The coffee, a quad shot espresso with a splash of milk was an exceptionally dark roast, not my preference, but still good with a robust flavor. Everyone else that grabbed coffee was pleased as well with options from lattes to americanos, everyone really appreciated the local roasts. The location across from the trailer park isn't phenomenal and the outside smelled like a fish market the morning we went, but the interior of the building beyond makes up for it. Eventually the outside will catch up as there's been quite the rejuvenation in the area with local eateries and stops I have no doubt. Overall, if you're visiting Waynesboro, it's worth a stop, especially as they grow and really nail each roast. read more
