As I paid at the register I asked the server (in my halting French) "is it really 37€? That doesn't seem right." She shrugged and said, "Oui, 37€." While I didn't want to make a big deal out of it--nothing like being the raging American in a country not your own--I unhappily paid and chalked it up to an inevitability: every overseas trip it has had this happen once, where the language barrier seemed like an excuse to cheat. The woman behind the bar greeted us warmly and told us to sit wherever we liked, but once seated, our server didn't acknowledge us until I flagged him down. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded, yet he still seemed impatient and brusque throughout our interaction. Overall, I really enjoyed my crêpe and would absolutely come back for the food.
