My daughter and I both purchased Groupons for Happy Feet when we saw it advertised. My daughter is on her feet all day and is very athletic, and I have plantar fasciitis also from being on my feet too much. We saw this and thought it would be the PERFECT thing for us. We took a Monday off from work (after a 10 mile tough mudder the day before) so we could go for pedicures in the morning. Our feet and legs were so painful after the mudder, we decided to call that morning to add the Happy Feet massage for the early evening. that way, we would have TWO massages that same day! Brilliant ...we thought!! We arrived for our appointment and there was a gentleman waiting in the reception area - he didn't speak English. He was nice enough, but just didn't understand a word we said. He offered us a beverage from the list of options and brought us some cut fruit (orange, which was too messy for us to even attempt to eat while having a massage, but nice nonetheless). We were in a private room with a drawn curtain. We both had men working on us. I don't know either of their name, they barely spoke, and if they did, it was a whisper and we couldn't understand them. I tried to tell them that we had just done a 10 mile tough mudder / climb up a mountain, but they had NO idea what I said. We sat and soaked our feet, and while we were soaking, they started the upper body massage, neck, head, shoulders, back, arms ... but the pressure was horrific ... especially since we were so sore to begin with. I had just gone to the mudder as a spectator, so really all I did was walk/climb the mountain and watch (that was far enough for me!) ... my feet, legs, calves were on FIRE. My daughter was actually in the mudder, and had to complete all of the obstacles in addition to the climbing - all the way up the mountain. My therapist used his elbow and dug it so far into my shoulders and back that I thought I would pass out. Then he took my arm and rotated it all the way around and then pulled up on my arm (like pulling it out of the socket) which was very painful, since I had just had surgery on that shoulder just over 4 months ago. I had NO idea he was going to do that, nor could I tell him to stop because when I tried, he just kept going!! The foot massage was equally as painful. I found more places on the bottom of my feet that I never knew could hurt so much when pressed!! The pressure he used on my legs felt like a burning searing sensation that couldn't end quick enough. At the end of the massage, he stood up, and knelt on the chair between my ankles and used his whole body weight to press on my upper thighs .. maybe this wouldn't have had hurt if I hadn't just done a mountain climb the day before, but this was just pure torture .. I started laughing uncontrollably because it was more like a laugh/cry ... my daughter looked at me and said "you ok??" .. and I said to her ... "it just hurts sooooo bad!!" ... we just had to laugh. Everyone is different, and some people, like myself and my daughter have medical issues and things that cannot be done. I've had 4 knee surgeries and just touching my knee is quite painful, so I would have preferred him skipping that part, but there was no way to communicate that to him. My feet were NOT Happy Feet when we left ... as a matter of fact, I'm still walking around quite gingerly and that was over a week ago!! I will not go back. I will definitely just keep going to my massage place. At least they listen and know what is hurting me, and can adjust their pressure or avoid certain areas. The only lasting thing I have from them are the many bruises he left on my arms and legs. Not such a Happy experience. I did leave a generous tip, because I did not want to be cheap. I just thought people should be well aware before going what to expect. My friend also bought one but has herniated cervical disks, and could not have them digging down her back with their elbow otherwise she could be paralized. My arm has been numb since my "massage" and I'm hoping he didn't reinjure my shoulder. That would be a real bummer. Glad to see that they opened another location! I had been going to the Chinatown location for the past 2 1/2 years but switched to Danvers as it's a little easier for me to get to. It's a very low key, serene atmosphere that puts you at ease the moment you walk in. Same wonderful therapists and same amazingly awesome massages/reflexology. And they really know what they're doing! They know what areas to target and how to get the tension out, and you are so relaxed when you leave that you almost feel drunk. I can't recommend this place highly enough - best money I ever spent on myself. read more

Previously I had great experiences here. However last week my brother and I visited and due to his Groupon coupon and the staff's complete inabilities to speak English, his conversation with the staff completely disrupted the other customers. It was awful! They need to speak a modicum of English and should have a place that is soundproof as not to disturb the other customers. A couple left because they were so annoyed. Went yesterday on a Groupon. Was a former Elements customer. Elements raised their rate to $70 so I quit. Happy Feet Spa is much better and a fraction of the cost. Had no problem with a language barrier. I enjoyed massage more because it was more massage than talk. The name Happy Feet does not describe the experience. It is a full body massage that hits all of your pressure points. They do a little more than normal on your feet. As to previous comments on pain - you went to the wrong place if you wanted a fluffy Swedish massage. When I left I felt like a new person! read more

Only 4 out of 5 and nothing to do with my experience, only that it's a little out of the way for me. So anyway, the pedicurist at my spa actually recommended Happy Feet because I'm a runner and always love to have my feet pampered. When a Groupon popped up I thought I'd give it a try. Glad I did. Michael was my therapist and while he was quiet, I like that, I'm not a big talker and I like that he just did his thing. I'm sure we would not have had a communication problem if I had asked any questions. Well, yes, heavy pressure on shoulders and back. Wonderful. By the time he got to my feet I was in heaven! Arms and hands too. I feel like I got more than I expected. Sorry to read the negatives...if there were any signs about tipping I didn't notice. I think it's a known fact that Grouponers are supposed to tip on the original cost, not the groupon price...and I had to go looking for Michael to tip him after he was finished. I have come here twice. Once alone and once with my two stepdaughters. Both times I left very happy. The second time a little sore but I needed the deeper tissue rub. They have a typical setup of semiprivate chairs and areas, a little loud/echo-y because of the open front area. Dim lighting. Clothes stay on so where loose cotton that the legs can rool over your knees for the foot portion. The hygiene however is superior to most, they line their tubs and everything is super clean. They even give you these sweet cold orange slices that are heaven to nibble on with your drink or tea. The feet are the start of the session and the full rub down, stretching, and pressure point accupressure is done after. You need to be clear about pressure in the beginning though. They will also tap you in places you need to relax so things stay quiet so just be responsive. All of the staff are super nice and polite. Although english is not everyone's main language there is always someone there to translate. My favorite person there is Jeff because he is really into working there and love to help everyone out and translate. I will continue to go back regularly because for the price, this is better than any day out I can think of. The girls constantly ask when we can go back. So we will be back very soon! The only reason I have a lowered star is because of the loud entry and the need for more rooms that are semiprivate, but I love it there. read more

I told him several times to ease up on the pressure but he did not. He left me several times to go out to the lobby and tend to another customer. The phone was ringing and he answered it! Many of the negative reviews seem to be from people that are clueless on what a traditional Chinese reflexology massage is supposed to be, as well as being borderline Tea Party racist. If you've ever traveled to Asia this is the type of massage you get, and the tourists are packed in everyday. I have to say that this was one of the best Chinese massages I've had in a long time, better than those I've had at fancy hotels in Asia. The middle aged guy working there helped relieve my seized up lower back and legs after a long weekend of sight seeing in Boston. This is not a place for touchy feely oils and fantasies of happy endings, and I left there feeling pretty beat up. The language challenge also adds to the authenticity. This was my 2nd visit to Happy Feet and it was once again rejuvinating. Like many other, I purchased a groupon. I called ahead to book my appointment which the groupon instructs, but they do take walk ins. One thing that people should be aware of is this is not your typical massage. It involves ALOT of reflexology, pressure points and can be quite intense if you are not prepared. I would suggest that you immediatly indicate to your therapist if you would prefer a "gentler" approach. The other posts are accurate in saying that there is a language barrier, but they certainly go out of their way to try their best to communicate. My visit was 1 hr which involved alot of DEEP massage, reflexology of my neck, arms, hands, feet, legs, hips along with the foot massage. I really enjoyed my visit which rejuvinated my muscles and body. I will certainly return again. I would also recommend my therapist, his name was Tom. :) read more

Bought a groupon for this place because I have plantar fasciitis and an hour foot massage sounded great! When I made the appointment the girl on the phone was very nice and easy to understand. However once I arrived not a soul in the place spoke or understood English. They did not seem to be expecting me even though I had made an appointment, as a matter of fact I heard 3 more people with the same problem while I was there...they had made an appointment but the front desk person did not have them on the schedule. I was not asked to fill out any paperwork nor was I asked about my health history, problem areas or preferences. My "therapist" (I would be very surprised if these people are actually licensed massage therapists) barely spoke a word to me the entire time. He did not explain what would happen during the treatment which was very different from what I expected. I started sitting in a recliner chair and my feet were soaking in a tub while the guy did some face, head and arm work. Then he did the foot massage which only lasted about 20 minutes and some leg compressions. Then he reclined the chair all the way back and said "turn over". He then did some extremely heavy handed back and shoulder work which was ok. Luckily I like deep pressure but if you don't this would be agony because he never asked if the pressure was ok and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have understood me if I asked him to lighten up. Also while he was working on my back his cell phone started ringing in his pocket. He stopped the massage, took his cell phone out of his pocket and then put it back but did not silence it so it just kept ringing right next to my ear! When he was done I forget what he said but he just walked out of the room and didn't tell me what to do. So I collected my things and went up front to pay with my groupon. On the front desk there was a sign stating "please tip your therapist generously, at least $10 or more, especially if you have a groupon". Now I have worked in the service industry my whole life and I always tip generously but this turned me off so much I really didn't want to tip at all. In the end I did, but again it is only because of my own experience in the industry. I would not go back to this place. The customer service is horrible and the massage is just ok. I'd rather spend my money on a real massage!!! read more

After a few minutes upon arrival, my daughter and I were met. We were asked a question which neither of us understood due to the gentleman's poor English (or lack thereof). He then wrote down the number "15" which we understood it to mean it would be another 15 minutes wait. He returned shortly after and motioned to follow him. I was under the impression from the Groupon that this was going to be an hour-long foot massage; however... Upon entering the room, there were 2 large upholstered chairs. A bucket of warm water was placed at our feet. Once my feet were immersed, the masseuse abruptly lowered my chair to a reclining position. I was totally taken off guard! He then performed a head massage and then the arms. Once finished, he began the foot massage. A very deep tissue massage which at times was painful. Once the foot massage was completed, I was motioned to turn over. My back, arms, and legs were massaged - again, at times painful and also very rough. As abruptly as it began that's how it ended. Wait! It gets better... As my daughter and I began to put on our socks and boots on an argument ensues between my daughter's masseuse and another worker. This turns into a screaming and shoving match between the 2 men right in front of us. We hurry to leave, but they have taken their battle by the front door. We drop off our Groupons and a tip at the front desk and attempt to proceed out of this madness. We are unable to leave because they are blocking the front door at this point and are totally oblivious to us. We try several times to leave, but now we're afraid of being caught up in this shoving match. They finally move slightly away from the door and we ran to make our exit! I loved the location and was able to drop in on a shopping trip with my family. Staff were friendly attentive and the spa was ultra clean and everything looked new. The therapist spent some time explaining the treatment and asked some questions my expectations. Once seated and soaking my feet I had a wonderful blissful neck an dshoulder massage that really got me relaxed and warm. The foot therapy was perfect and the therapist, Tracy, responded to my instructions about pressure. It was one of the best sessions I have had. Aside fom the atmosphere this place was extremely disappointing. They kept getting up and wqlking away, answering their personal cell phones, and speaking to one another in their native language. It was difficult to communicate anything to them because no one speaks english. Very disappointed and will not be returning. read more

I made an appointment here for both my friend and I.They took me and a walk-in and made my friend wait 45 minutes.Language barrier a problem from the get-go but it got worse.During my whole treatment,the man who was supposed to be concentrating on me was stopping to answer the phone,fielding questions from customers that were waiting AND drinking his ice coffee that he got from the Dunks out front !!!He was giggling like a school girl everytime another customer came in or called and I was NOT amused.I almost got up and walked out at one point and couldn't wait for this to be over.He was horrible and rushed-my 6 yr old granddaughter could have done better. Tried out via Groupon the first time and have been back twice since. Bad News: there really is a total language barrier, so you just have to take what comes. They also use a perfume/air scent which I find overpowering. The massage itself is a clothed, all body massage (which surprised me the first time!) in a reclining chair bed, and the quality/technique depends on who you get. Mostly very good but sometimes a little too rushed/hard/deep! The Good News: I love the hot water foot soaking and serious attention to foot and leg massage, and getting the arms and back done, too, always seems a nice extra for the price. The cost is reasonable ($45, and I always leave a $20 tip.). Like i said, I've been back a total of three times, but the scent and possibility of Ouch! now always comes to mind when I get the urge to return. read more

I'm horrified and disgusted. First I go in for an hour massage and they asked if I want an hour and a half and I say yes. The man starts the massage and he's hacking and coughing as if he sick or having allergies and his hands are all sweaty and clammy I let it go and tried to relax and enjoy my massage. After massaging my feet he tells me to sit in the chair to do the back massage (no table) and proceeds to massage my neck with one hand and talk on his phone in the other hand, I had said are you seriously going to talk on the phone while I'm paying for massage? He put it away and a few minutes later he did it again yapping in my ear in his language with one hand on my neck and one hand on the phone I said this is ridiculous and got up to leave, when he then called I guess maybe the owner and I said he's on his phone while he's massaging me. He held his phone up to my face and said look I wasn't on it look I said now you're going to lie I said this place is disgusting and I'm leaving, I grab my bag and the other man took the chair that I was sitting on and pushed it into the wall and started screaming violently get out get out get out of this place get out of here get out very upset chasing me out the door. This was an interesting experience. It was not relaxing at all. I guess I was expecting this amazing foot massage and I got a very fast paced, very hard rub down. It appeared as though they folded up the towels they used on me and put them back next to the chair for the next client. What an amazing massage! First impressions of this spa are like a retreat from everyday life. Serene, quiet atmosphere with soft music playing and unbelievably skilled therapists made me feel like I was walking out on clouds. I especially love the upper body massage while your feet are being warmed up in delightfully warm water. Just a wonderful experience. I find it difficult to stay awake I'm so relaxed. Stay far away.....when my 14 year old daughter asked for change from the $60 she gave them - $48 bill - all three behind the counter pretended not o understand English and shooed her away. I purchased a Groupon that expired as I have not been able to use it until now. We happened to be in the area so we walked in and inquired about the expired Groupon. The staff was very polite and graceful- even though language barrier was a bit of a challenge, they graciously offered to take me right away. My appointment was a an hour foot massage but i can honestly say it was so much more than that. I was offered a coffee and my therapist brought over a freshly cut orange. The treatment began with a warm foot soak while the therapist worked on my face, head and arms. After this my seat was fully reclined and my body was covered to stay warm. This massage was very thorough and intense but truly an amazing experience. I am on my feet at work for 12-14hours and have plantar faciatis on both feet and can honestly say I have never had any massage that compared to this. My therapist Jason worked so hard the entire time and even though this was supposed to be just a foot massage- I feel you get a full body massage for a prize of a foot massage. Since my groupon had expired - I had to pay an additional $16 - which was a great deal. I tipped my therapist $15 - as he earned every single penny !! I will return to Happy Feet in Danvers and will pass the word around of how wonderfully refreshing and energizing experience this was ! Thank you !!! read more

I purchased through groupon. I've been to a few other foot massage parlors, and I'd consider this one just ok. Other staff members were a little noisy, and it was distracting. The masseuse didn't really use fluid motions but short choppy ones.(if that makes sense) I'm not one to complain, but unless they advertise a lower price in the future I'll probably just go to another place. There's an awesome foot massage parlor in Marblehead for approximately the same price that I love. read more

This was the worst massage I have ever had. There was talking between two employees so not relaxing at all. The chairs look like they are a leftover from the 70s. The massage felt like a lot of pinching and quick movements. Nothing soothing and relaxing. I just brought my disabled son into Happy Feet in Danvers MA and the older gentleman, who greets customers at the door, badly discriminated against my son. My son had a very stiff and painful neck and I thought a massage would help him. I agreed to stay next to my son during the massage. The older gentleman stared at my son as if he were from another planet and followed us into the room in back. My son is nonverbal and was in a lot of pain. The younger masseuse started with my son's feet which was not the problem area that I had described. My son started to make some loud noises, as he is nonverbal. The older gentleman wanted to throw my son out, so he grabbed his arm and got him off the seat and stared at me while I was putting on his shoes. I am so upset to have my son treated in such a discriminatory and nasty way. He doesn't deserve such treatment and he didn't deserve being stared at. Brain disorders can happen to anyone at any time and Mr. Big Shot shouldn't feel that he is better than my son. I will never do business with Happy Feet Danvers again. read more

I recently went to Happy Feet in Danvers with my Groupon for an hour of foot reflexology. What a WEIRD and uncomfortable experience. I WILL NOT GO THERE EVER AGAIN. The place is dark and creepy. Even though I scheduled an appointment on the phone with a woman, when I walked in there were 3 older men there, and none of them spoke English. Kind of scary, odd and felt unprofessional, not like a real legitimate business They led me back to a room, and it was so dark, and not spa like, felt dirty in fact. They have walled rooms with curtains, and with no ceilings. They give you a bottled water and oranges which I didn't touch. They had me put in my feet in a bowl of VERY hot water. I asked what was in the water because I couldn't even see the liquid or what color it was as it was so dark, he didn't understand what I was asking. Two guys wanted me to lay back and do a shoulder massage or touch my head or something, and I said, NO. I came here for my feet only, just reflexology. I was very tempted to grab my purse and shoes and run out of there, I didn't feel safe. Finally, one guy kind of understood English and what I was saying, and he said ok, a 30 min. foot only. I did stay for the foot rub, and there was some reflexology, but the guy was very rough with my feet, rubbing very hard and he would not have been able to understand me if I said stop it, etc. At the end of the session they slap your feet around, so weird, I heard them doing it in other rooms, then they did that to mine at end of session. VERY strange experience, I gave them my Groupon, and small tip and left!! I could not get out of there fast enough. Think twice before you buy a Groupon, or go here!!! read more

I am so disgusted! Went in to Danvers one for a message and the guy who was assigned to me was sick. I mean SICK! Sniffling and coughing in my face with extremely bad breath! Not only was he sick, but he kept belching too. The whole experience was disgusting. Then I was leaving without tipping (sorry but seriously? I am going to tip you? A week before Christmas and all I can think of the entire time is I am going to get sick now). I could not wait until it was over. If I wasn't in the same room with a friend, I would have gotten up 5 minutes into the session, but didn't want to ruin her time. He yelled out as I was walking out - "Excuse me. TIP please!". Um.... I explained to him that he should NOT have been working today and that I was not at all happy with my experience. I ended up giving him $5. Why, I don't even know. Got in my car, then tried calling the place and asked for the manager. The women stated she was on vacation and just hung up on me. PLEASE stay home if you are sick especially when in that intimate of a setting with a customer. Just plain NASTY. I had to go home and jump in the shower. read more

My daughter and I found a Groupon for this place and decided to try it. The place hardly looked open because they keep it very dark. They speak very little if any English. It started out really nice with orange slices and a foot soak. It went downhill from there. We were given no idea of what was going to happen and not asked how we wanted the pressure. As a result, my daughter has a bruise on her leg and I feel like I was hit by a bus. It was not relaxing. My guy rubbed the oil in so hard and fast with scaly hands that I thought he was scratching me. Maybe I would feel different if I had known what was going to happen. Oh yea! My daughters guy asked her how she was going to pay after she was soaking as he started on her feet. Very inappropriate. When it was finally over, we went to the front desk to pay with our Groupon. That lady spoke NO English and kept pointing to a piece of paper. Neither of us had any clue what she wanted! She called someone over who didn't know any more English than she did. My boyfriend & I came here after purchasing a Groupon for our first ever reflexology appointment & both had different experiences. It started fine, the environment was calming & we were able to sit side-by-side, they brought us sliced oranges & made sure we were comfortable. My boyfriend had a sweet lady who was kind, gentle & made him relaxed & refreshed! He almost fell asleep. I had a man who was skilled, however so obviously stressed out that I could not relax or enjoy my massage. He was rushing through my massage, watching the clock, grunting, audibly sighing in frustration & frankly, a little too rough to be enjoyable. I tried being friendly, smiling & hoping if I was positive, maybe it would rub off on him & cheer him up, but he was beyond stressed to even pretend. I felt more guilty for making an appointment because it was clear that they had not stopped all day, I could hear my therapist's stomach growling throughout my entire session. Both therapists appeared to have a very busy day, however my guy's negative attitude made this visit not enjoyable for me. I read great reviews from this place so I'm thinking maybe the Groupon has caused a surge in appointments, & staff can't keep up? Next time maybe the owners should make sure they have enough staff for the amount of clients they would like to bring in, because these poor employees were BURNT OUT. read more

started getting a fabulous massage from a gentlemen, then in the middle a women took over. she was not as good,very choppie and worse of all she was the receptionist so during my massage she took phone calls and answered the door. it ruined my experience, the massage was nice and relaxing except for the interruptions and the talking.
