Do not walk but run to this bookstore! The coffee is fantastic and the staff is delightful. Worth every penny!We bumped into it while looking for a coffee spot and fell in love. I got a dirty chai that was delicious. They offer gluten-free treats, too. For a small bookstore they have a terrific selection and the people that work. There are very helpful. Honestly, this place is a vibe. I went here for the 1st time because I'm an RN and they were selling drinks for $1 to nurses and teachers today. The shop, cafe, and service did not disappoint. As soon as I stepped in, the clerk greeted me with a smile and made light conversation while I browsed around. While looking at a book, another staff told me how she recommended that book to her brother & her brother wouldn't stop talking about it. So I bought it, along with book-themed stickers. At the café, the staff were just as pleasant. I ordered an iced latte with a gluten-free banana bread, which they warmed for me. Although good, the coffee wasn't something I'd write home about. The banana bread, however, did earn my praise. With their free WiFi, I was able to get some work done on my laptop while enjoying my coffee. At the back, they have a library corner for children. Usually, a collection of kids in a public place would be a turn-off for some people, but the environment was surprisingly courteous of its costumers. This is a space where everyone is respectful to one another. It's nice seeing parents taking their babies/toddlers to a friendly shop where they can get sweet treats and some family-friendly reading time. Overall, this place provides nothing but good service, a neat collection for book lovers, and good vibes. If my schedule's favorable, I'll probably make my visits a monthly, if not weekly thing. What a peaceful place. I always visit Happy Medium Books when I eat at Cool Moose. These are 2 of my favorite places within walking distance of each other. I can always find the time to relax here while being able to support a small business. The environment is so relaxing and the owner is always gracious and welcoming. I love that that books are moderately priced and that I can find a good read. The cafe here serves wonderful lattes and it's just a peaceful vibe. You can literally find a book, order a drink and pop a squat lol. She's also great about inviting local writers in to personally sign books and meet the people who support them. Overall this is just a nice Jacksonville gem. read more

Walking in, it smells like freshly brewed coffee and the tang of well-loved pages--pure bliss. This place is equal parts bookstore, café, and serotonin factory. They've have a great selection of books! The classics, to the latest booktok book of the moment. But my personal favorite: the Blind Date with a Book" section. (Yes, I bought one. No, I didn't need it). Some were even holiday themed! So fun. And all the prices are very fair. The café side is so cute. I didn't get to try the coffee (but I will be back for it!) because I just had breakfast. But the smells said it's probably amazing. Bonus points for the staff--friendly, helpful, and somehow radiating the same cozy energy as the store. read more

I originally went to this café and had great service but gave them 3 stars because of my matcha latté I got. I visited with a large walking group and they knew ahead of time so they made a few pre-mixes for the rush which was very smart. The match mix didn't work out too well and my matcha latte had very little matcha. They invited me back and I can say that their matcha lattes are completely fine and the book store is so cute. I changed my rating to 5 stars. The staff were so nice. I originally was trying to buy another matcha undercover but they asked me if I was Tatty. Oh darn! read more

Happy Medium Book Cafe is a lovely addition to the neighborhood. We have been severely in need of a place like this that offers the quaint, cozy vibes that a cafe does and the bonus of books! The owner is very friendly and available for any questions you have or for some nice conversation. The cafe is clean and welcoming and serves a variety of coffee, teas, and other drinks. They also have a pastry case that appears to be rotating with new and classic things. I really like their blueberry muffins and the earl grey tea cheesecake. They have many events such as story time for children and a variety of books clubs. I like that they also have wifi so it is a great place to pop in to read or work from your laptop. I have purchased a few books here and found the prices to be fair and average. I am curious if they do and/or will start offering trade ins/credits for used books. I think that would be a great idea! read more

The first time I went in, I felt like I had a personal book consultant because they were kind enough to show me other books in the genre I was looking for. A new owner and a very nice set-up, with all sorts of books available (including discounted), a children's play area, lots of literary-related items, a nice café area with luscious pastries and coffee/tea drinks available. It is not open on Mondays and Tuesdays, but there's a plan to open on Tuesday evenings for "drinks" and book discussions/author presentations. We were greeted with very friendly service and the discounted books present a good value. Parking along the street in both directions may still be limited during higher traffic hours. This is located near a wonderful antiques mall store and the Cool Moose Café and an Italian Eatery. No excuse not to grab a tasty meal or snack/dessert while book or antique shopping! read more

Happy Medium Books Cafe was not only the first bookstore I explored in Jacksonville, but it is also what got me into exploring bookstores more often. The store is small, but has all the charm. You can find both new and secondhand books. Don't forget to explore the clearance section as you can find some good reads for less than $5. It's a great pit stop for a casual stroll or settling down to study/work. There is a cafe located within that I have not tried yet, but I certainly am excited to try in the future. read more

This cafe and bookstore is so adorable. The owner, Annie, is so sweet and is happy to help you find a new book to read. I love that this store has a little bit of everything when it comes to genre. They also offer a small area of Spanish books and a table of banned books. The lemon blueberry citrus scones are INCREDIBLE and the lavender lemonade was very tasty. I'll be back soon :) read more

Cute and Cozy Women-Owned Book Store with an eclectic inventory and a great little cafe inside with house-made beverages full of Coffee, Teas, and lemonades along with daily Pastries, Empanadas, and more. Anne has been there on both visits and is patient, friendly, and very helpful during your visit. If you decide to stop in, try and make it before 2pm if you want to try their Empanadas, because those are made in a limited amount each day. It's always a pleasure to find these hidden gems in our City of Jacksonville. read more

Stopped here as part of the visit Jax coffee trail. Instead of coffee, I was sucked into the selection of books! I love seeing an independent book store making it work. Lots of people were browsing and the line for the coffee was long. We bought a book and some stickers for a reasonable cost. The cashier was friendly and helpful. read more

10 stars for Happy Medium Books! Their book prices are amazing. Remind me of half price books in Texas, but not a huge chain which is even better. Love shopping small & supporting small businesses. They have community events every week. Inside is a great space for working or reading or catching up with friends. They have a mini cafe inside and some empanadas. Their book selection is amazing and they keep banned books in stock. I've left with a handful of books and having spent less than $40. As anyone who shops books would know, $40 would typically get you 1-2 books at Target or BAM or Barnes & Noble. It's amazing to shop small and to support those that are supporting their community to read amazing books at amazing prices. I love chatting with the owners as well, a lovely mother & daughter duo! read more

Staff were very friendly. Inventory is a mix of new and used items, but everything is in good condition. Location is a walkable neighborhood with independently owned retail shops and places to eat.
