Thanks Dawn for the great service! Been coming to this area for about 40 years and living in the…read moreNorthwoods for close to seven. First stop here and my wife and I loved it. We sat where we had a great view of Big Arbor Vitae Lake across the street. We had the Soup of the Day which was Stuffed Green Pepper soup. That was very good. A lot of ground beef in it. A bowl of it would be a meal. I'd have every one at the table order it and get the Huge Pretzel appetizer to go with it. We ordered and shared The Patty Melt and upgraded to the fries instead of the rippled chips. Great rye bread and grilled just right. My wife would have liked dill rather than bread and butter pickle chips. Next time we'll ask if that's an option. It wasn't a deal breaker. We also had the Walleye Finger Basket. Wow! Nice big chunks of walleye with a very good coating. I upgraded to the regular onion rings. These were perfectly cooked and had a great crunch to complement the ring of onion on the inside. We were able to take advantage of their offer on the T-bird Football electronic card. Even without it, we will be back to try other things like the Ruben Rolls!

The place was busy but not packed. We grabbed a hightop with lake views and perused the menu. The adults ordered old fashioneds ($5.50) and the kiddos had kiddie cocktails ($2), plus an appetizer of mini corn dogs ($8.50) as we were all starving. From there the adults ordered "Greg's Taco Wrap" ($11) and the Walleye Fingers Basket ($10.50) and the kiddos ordered from the kids menu with a 9" Cheese Pizza ($5.95) and a Hamburger with Fries ($4.95) with cheese (not sure if we were up-charged for that). Note, water is self serve by the front door. The food all came out quickly and were very large servings. I couldn't believe how many fries came with the kids meal! The Taco Wrap was the highlight of the meal, but it was all delicious. Nitpick would be a lighter batter on the walleye fingers, but it was still good. We ended our meal with the kiddos playing some of the arcade games, which were surprisingly only $1 a play. My only regret is I wish I would have ordered the duck wontons. Next time!

A tiny bit disappointed the bun wasn't poppyseed, but it was good enough as is. We shared sides of sweet potato fries (generous portion) and onion rings. Both were tasty & hot. Topped it off with some drinks & it was a perfect lunch. Our server, Nancy, was friendly & attentive. The place is cute inside - a sizable bar with a small dining room, decked out in typical Northwoods fashion. Check it out!

The food is worth waiting for and the wait time is just what we need to have a real conversation with the company we are with. First time lunch stop was on a Friday fish day and walleye bites were ordered. The report is that they were delicious and were tasted by two in the party. I'm gf and don't care for fish so did not taste. The other party member had wings and said they were excellent along with his side of onion rings. I had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich on a gluten free bun. The bun held up well and the sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries was delicious. Second time here my husband had the special of Chicago style hot dogs, I had the steak sandwich on gf bun and the other in our party had the hot beef sandwich. We all enjoyed our meals and look forward to coming back. The food is just downright good for a fair price. Not sure why only one waitress but guessing they only need one for the kitchen to keep pace. There is seating outside but I think it is just used when they have entertainment. Everyone seems to be enjoying their bar seats and restaurant meals.

I've been frequenting Timbers every Friday for their fish fry for the last 8+ years or so. To me,…read morethey have the best fish fry in the north woods by far, and it proves that you don't have to go to a fancy supper club to get good eats. The ambiance is a typical north woods bar, you can either eat at the bar or sit at one of the tables in their 'dining room' which houses the slot machines, dart board, and a few other games for kids. They have a wide selection of brews on tap, and have a full bar. The thing that I really love about this place is that everyone who works here is extremely nice. You can tell they love what they do, they're proud of where they live, and they have great senses of humor. Just overall great conversationalists. Now to the food, my favorite part: For appetizers, you HAVE to try their jalapeño poppers. They're the best poppers I've ever had. I believe they are coated in potato breading and they have an awesome zing to them. Never had a popper like it and I'll always compare others to the ones at Timbers. For lunch/dinner, their hamburgers are incredible as well. Super juicy smash burgers on a fluffy bun with the best French fries in the world. A perfect pick me up during snowmobile season or on a nice summer day. On Friday, this is THE spot for fish fry. My family and I have tried so many fish fry places over the year trying to find our favorite, and each time we stray we always leave disappointed wishing we would've just got Timbers instead. To me, what makes their fish fry so great is their portions are extremely generous, you get 4 pieces of fish, a handful of fries, two slices of buttered rye bread, coleslaw, tartar sauce, and a lemon wedge. The way their fish is prepared and battered is my favorite. It doesn't have that super thick, almost pancake batter like breading that tastes like a corn dog. Instead it's very lightly breaded so that it's fish forward with a nice crunch. This is just my preference, but to me, it's the best fish fry I've ever had. I genuinely love this place so much, but I must say that it's obviously super crowded and loud during the tourist seasons. If that bothers you, you can always call in a takeout order so don't like that deter you from checking this place out!
