This place has good intentions and could be really great if they would offer something other than beer. I'm a wife who doesn't drink beer. I don't want to sit and watch my husband drink beer and not have a cocktail with him. It's not hard to offer a few wines. Nice little, local brewery! We came here on a early evening on our bicycles from Minocqua and were pleasantly surprised to find live music on the patio at 4:30 on a Friday. The place had a nice crowd outside, and the bar inside had a good group too, but the service was still quick. My husband and I both enjoyed our beers and the atmosphere! Another local brew pub -- good but not spectacular -- but still worth stopping by for a beer or two. I was there in September so I went with their Reeftoberfest beer. It was a decent Bavarian Märzen style beer. They served it in pint jars (not my favorite vessel for beer but at least you know how much you're getting). I'd prefer a traditional German mug, a half liter would be ok, a full liter would be authentic. Though the building is a rather unattractive steel building the interior is nicely decorated with ample seats at the bar and several high top tables and several more standard tables. They have a decent shuffleboard table too (I'll be back for that alone ). Their major asset is the large outdoor patio. The ambience and view is not as nice as you might find at an average German Beer Garden but it's Ok for Woodruff. My final take -- I'll be back for the beer and some shuffleboard with family and friends. read more

This is our NUMBER ONE FAVORITE BREWERY. They have so many beers and also bring in other local, guest beers. The most popular and MY favorite beer of all time is their Musky Bite IPA. It's a 7.2% and gives you a kick in the butt with taste. A close second for me is Breakfast In Bed Sour or their Resort Casual IPA. Service couldn't be better. We're always greeted upon arrival, helped quickly and talked to while seated at the bar. They allow pups and love them just as much as the people! They encourage you to bring your own food in as they don't serve it. They recently have partnered Hoggie Doggie and you can order/get delivery right to the brewery. There's spacious seating inside and out. They have live music outside, almost every weekend. They have non-alcoholic options for kids. Overall, very family friendly environment. My husband and I, had our rehearsal dinner here in 2019 and rented the place out. They were so accommodating for our amount of people, the food and decorations we bought and just all around helpful during planning. Would recommend to anyone. read more

I stopped in for some beers to go for home. The gentleman was very nice that helped me out. They where out of some of their beers I wanted but found a few to take home and I did enjoy them. I was bummed that they did not have growlers anymore but do understand why. I will stop and try to enjoy a few beers inside during my next visit to the area. read more

A couple at Potosi recommended Rocky Reef to us. Since we were visiting Minocqua we decided to stop in the taproom. We arrived right at opening on a Friday and the place filled up fast. We sat at the bar and our group ordered two flights. We just wanted to sample some of the beers and then head on to our next destination. Overall the beer was pretty good. We really liked Nice Pinneapples, it is a refreshing summer beer. We did not care for Up North, just didn't have a great flavor. The other two, Juicer McGavin and Red Horn were decent. I didn't hate the IPA flavor of Juicer. All the beers did have a full mouth flavor which you don't always find with small craft breweries. The space is nice overall. But as previously mentioned can fill up quick. The staff wasn't overly engaging. They greeted you and took your drink order, no small talk or explanations about the brewery or beer. That worked for me on this visit but I do hope they are more friendly with others especially since this is a tourist area. I'd stop back if we vacationed in the area to try some more beers. read more

It was so nice to see a local brewery open up in Woodruff. As of the last week in July 2020, they were operating with outdoor seating only. It looked like they had converted their parking lot into seating and had about 10 tables that were amply spaced. The flight wasn't on the menu, but I just asked the bartender for it. It was $11 for four pours so very affordable. They had array of beers from stouts and ales to IPAs and sours. I tried the milkman's kid (vanilla stout),the passion in my pants (watermelon passion fruit sour), the outhouse (brown ale), and the morning dose (maple/coffee imperial stout). I really enjoyed all of them besides the outhouse, which was just ok and kind of had a weird after taste. Both the stouts were delicious and had great flavor profiles. My favorite was the sour because it was light and perfect for summer without being too bitter. read more

Great beer. Good venue. Only reason it's not a 5 is a few very minor things: 1. Seating is limited. If you have a large group, come early and stake your claim. Otherwise, big bar but fills up fast. 2. No food. Understandable as this tends to be rare amongst tap rooms, but it's worth noting. They do allow you to bring in food as well as order in though. This is a great place to get a drink. They have good options of beer and a great outdoor area with picnic tables and corn hole. They also allow you to bring food in from other restaurants. Stopped on over Labor Day weekend. Place was kinda crowded. Since we were never here before we walked up to the bar to get the lowdown on the beers that they offer. Normal thing to do at a brewery I would say. Waited few minutes and finally the girl came. I said hello we have never been here before. She said menu is behind you on the wall and then turned and walked away. No Hello.. No thanks for stopping. So we looked at the menu and waited for to stop back and take our order. I was mostly excited to visit as this brewery was quite hyped by many other Breweries in Wisconsin we visited. Also, they had a fantastic Collab beer with one of my WI favorites Saw Mill Brewing. The collab is 715 - Imperial Stout which we tried at Saw Mill and bought a few cans of. I tried Grandma's Cookie which I thought was decent. It reminded me of a light gingerbread/ spice flavor, but a little too sweet for my personal taste. We also tried Diet Starts Tomorrow - Peanut butter donut stout. The tap room was dark and wooded. Everyone was very friendly. I thought the merch was cool, but way over priced compared to breweries in the area. Especially coming from the cities. I collect crew necks from breweries and the most I paid was $40. I couldn't justify $60 just because it was champion brand. The girl said champion is higher end. You can find them at fleet farm and Walmart...so not so much. I own plenty! They had two brewery dogs hanging out, and they were super cute! This is a place I would stop again for a beer or two if in the area again. read more

This place is a WIN. Let me start this review with saying I am a beer bitch...not a snob...a bitch. Whats the difference you ask? Snobs complain if its not great, bitches like me just get cranky and want great beer. The Cranky Beer bitch in me did not show his face at Rocky Reef. The beer there is good, real good. I had a flight with the brown, amber, IPA and blonde ale. All real beer and all delicious. None of them were brewed with Chocolate, Hemp, blueberries, raspberries, dingleberries or any of the things brewers find hip these days. Reef had real beer, good beer. The beers were balanced, not thin and over hopped or under malted. Well balanced, perfectly carbonated, great color hues per the style. Bartender was sweet and cool, the dogs were friendly and the sun was shining on the awesome patio. High Five Rocky Reef. Ill be back. read more

This is my favorite place to drink in the Northwoods. I have been here twice now as my family camps nearby every August. Their beer list seems to rotate which I appreciate, because I enjoy trying different beers. They also have a "guest list" of beers from other breweries. Their beer selection has great variety and something for everyone! I personally love the fruity ones, like Blueberry Ale, Blood Orange, and Pineapple. The glasses are also super cute - my family has bought plenty! This place is also kid and dog friendly - they have a shuffleboard, ping pong table, and outdoor patio. I recently stopped by Rocky Reef Brewing Company while visiting my parents in St. Germain. It is so fun to have a brewery in this part of the Northwoods! I stopped in with my dad and the beers we ordered were tasty and refreshing. Although we were disappointed that the Musky Bite was out again (my dad said this is their best beer but they often run out). Our bartender was friendly and the decor was also cool, with boat motors and bicycles hanging up. I'm glad this brewery has opened up and hope to stop back next time I am in the area and try the Musky Bite! read more

Place was packed at Noon on a Saturday- that should tell you something! We had 5-6 different beer styles, all were excellent. Very friendly staff. While we love the pet-friendly atmosphere, a couple of people just let their dogs run loose in the room and ignored them - and they were causing some trouble with other dogs. We spent an hour or so here while waiting to get into our vacation rental & were impressed with the wide selection of brews. Great beer and nice atmosphere. Was there last night and there were 14 selections to choose from. I liked the Never Fail Pale Ale and Musky Bite IPA. The Howitzer lemongrass wit was also a treat. Free shuffleboard, ping pong and other games. Nice large screens to watch sporting events and good tunes. Bring your own food. Best beer in the northwoods! Great selection of beers. Musky Bite is our favorite, and if you are looking for something different try breakfast in bed, which was surprisingly good for a sour. Think of blueberry pancakes and maple syrup. Rocky reef is dog friendly, which is great when we bring our dog up for vacation. They normally have a band playing outside on the weekend in the summers.
