I went ahead and I scouted for a hair salon near by and after calling 4 salons, Happy Salon was the one to take me in without an appointment. The best part about it is, I was lucky enough to get into the salon within 10 minutes! Lien was lovely to speak to. Not only did she listen to what I wanted done, she made sure to take care of me and make sure I have the best comforting experience. I tend to have specific needs and instructions when it comes to touching my hair... for example: * Cut an inch * No heat styling * No layering scissors * No pulling down with your sheers when cutting length off my curtain bangs And I can tell you this, she had no problem with that and made sure my experience at her salon was "5 star; top of the line". My husband has been a regular at Happy Salon for a few years now. He always goes to Tun for his haircut. My husband always looks so handsome when he is done with the haircut. Tun is good at cutting hair short and styling it with product so that it slightly sticks up in a nice appealing way. I've also had the pleasure of getting my haircut from Tun recently. He's a quiet guy but very professional. I got my haircut in a shoulder length bob and he styled it nicely with a blow dryer and a roller brush. My haircut was ~$50 I've gotten my haircut from Lien a few years ago for a longer haircut and I remember that haircut being very nice too. She was able to part my hair on the side and blow dry it to make it fluffy. Their salon is located near the entrance of Sola Salon so it's very easy to find. I've been coming to Happy Salon for years before the pandemic, and have been going back ever since reopening (nothing like a few self-administered haircuts to make you truly appreciate your barber...) Tun is a master at what he does. He's precise, focused, never rushes, and makes sure to get every detail right. I really appreciate the care he takes in every cut - I've been to a lot of barbershops where I've felt rushed, particularly if my appointment is packed into a busy schedule that day. Never once have I felt that way with Tun. On top of that, he's very pleasant and kind, and is thoughtful enough to quickly remember your preferred hairstyle once you've come in just a couple times. It felt soo great to finally get my hair cut again! I saw Lien for a women's haircut and and was finally freed from my overgrown pandemic hair. I've been going here 10+years, Japanese straightening 4+ years to have an easier time working with my hair. Lien also knows I'm struggling to grow my hair past a certain length, and it was finally getting pretty long. (April: I had to remind her to repair the body of my hair due to the September fiasco, not just the root outgrowth.) She left silently while the stuff was in my roots (unprofessional and I worried she wouldn't return in time, she did,) and, for barely 2 minutes, brought it down the body and ends then proceeded to wash it out. I said it didn't seem long enough to do anything and she said she was afraid it'd get damaged; the neutralizer should fix it. No, it didn't, as I found out after washing my hair a week later. Also, about 4" of my hard worked new length were gone? She either cut without telling me (she knew I never wanted more than 1" cut off) or it broke off and she didn't say anything. (In September of last year, she did my color and repair treatment way too soon after a Japanese straightening touch up--1 week--and ruined the straightening in the body of my hair--it became wavy and poofy. She had promised a discount next time, which, when the time came--April--, she tried to recant and blame me?) Also raised the price out of nowhere, I reminded her of her promise to discount, took an insulting mere $25 off as a 'discount' to where I ended up paying the exact usual amount, seemed disappointed when I didnt tip... I shouldn't have paid at all for September or April. WTF. She was believable in her supposed confusion and apologies last year but after April's debaucle and not even telling me the price but making me ask how much? I think she always knew better, acted way too nice--just didnt want trouble or to give refunds. She used to put such great effort and care, genuinely try to help me and make me look + feel good. It feels shes going through the motions with bare minimum, jacking up the prices and not informing me til I'm about to pay, still expecting a tip...thats completely reprehensible. I'm so frustrated and over it all. Now I need to find a new salon that uses the same type of straightening...pain in the ass... She also didn't trim my eyebrows during eyebrow waxes, which comes with it, even when I specifically asked, and didn't try to make them even when one was obviously curved and the other a straighter line...what is that? What type of stylist lets their clients leave looking messed up and unhappy? I can't go back, she ruined my trust in her. read more

Really impressed with this hair salon. Needed to find a new place since all the ones in santa Clara county including where I go are still shutdown. I got a haircut by Tun, great cut, helped me get one I usually get and did an awesome job by assuring me he could do it. In terms of covid19 precautions, Tun regularly cleaned equipment throughout my hair cut, everyone has masks on, worked with me when he had to get close to my ears. Well I'm so bummed that I found this salon when I only have a couple months left in the Bay Area! Tune was so great! Listened to exactly what I wanted and did EXACTLY what I was hoping for!!! 2 months ago I went to a fancy fancy salon in Palo alto that charges $85 for a pixie cut and it wasn't even remotely what I wanted. Tune cut my hair and gave me a quick wash then styled it a bit for a fraction of that cost! In fact it was the same price I paid for my stylist in LA in a fancy area of town. Lien did amazingly!!! I've been wanting to dye my hair blue for about ten years now, but I couldn't place my confidence in any of the 3-4+ salons I've attended looking for the right hairstylist. I suppose it takes a certain adventurous personality to do it, and Lien is my kind of woman! She was very professional and asked a bunch of questions to what exactly I wanted-- even helping with recommendations, that I was curious about, from a stylist perspective. It was such a fun and enjoyable morning. For a few minutes I even got to see what I would look like as a blonde! (As being a brunette, all of my life, it was a entertaining perspective.) I love this place. I've been getting my hair cut with Lien for more than a year now and she's so good. I can tell she and her husband enjoy their work and they're both really good at it. My mother has, when she's in town, even sought them out. I have short hair and it's hard to find someone who's comfortable cutting a woman's short hair, and is good at it. I don't think I'm super picky, but I DO want it to look good. Lien is great. She understands what I want and is also happy with me going "just play with it and make something new." Went in for a mom/daughter haircut and it was my daughter's FIRST HAIRCUT in a salon. Since she's 4, this was a pretty big deal to me. I decided to put my faith in Happy Salon, and they delivered. Lien cut my hair first, and kindly didn't mention the extensive damage I've done with home dye. She cut as I requested, better than I could have described, and styled it with a soft curl blowout. Also--her own hairdo was beautiful! They have a special booster seat for kids, and my daughter was very comfortable. Lien has a kind, down to earth manner and doesn't do a lot of small talk, which I enjoyed. She's very talented and efficient. I love the stained glass windows and high ceilings. It's a really beautiful space and we'll be going back. It was $16 for the child haircut and $19 for a simple woman's cut. read more

I am really picky about my haircuts because I get them about once per year, but I decided to give this place a try because it was close by. I made an appointment with Lein, I believe she runs this place with her partner and it is a cute and stylish little salon inside the Sola Salon complex. She did a good job and took her time with layering my hair, although she did it too much in the back when I didn't ask for it (I always ask for front layers, 1 inch cut, keep it the same style in the back). She also put some products in my hair to make it smoother, and blow dried it out for me after the cut. It turned out looking good overall. My hair was a mess before coming in because I had previously bleached the grown out part about 5x and it was extremely dry/tangled. She charges $35 for long hair, which isn't bad! I usually get my hair cut for less because I've had really bad experiences the few times I've tried salons over $40 for a haircut. Btw, I'm attaching a pic to my review. Just came here for a hair cut and I'll admit that I was a little skeptical when I drove by and saw the stenciled sign for Happy Salon. But I had already made an appointment so I decided to continue onward! Asked for a simple trim, side swept bangs and more layers. Tun was able to do exactly the hair cut that I wanted! I always go to places that are too timid to cut shorter layers in my hair but he cut them very quickly and easily. He was also very nice but not much of a talker though I prefer that since I don't really like discussing my life story with people I just met lol. Finished my hair cut in 35 minutes.
