If you're looking for an effective, inexpensive massage in Astoria, Happy Spa is a solid option and my go-to spot. I've been here multiple times and have mostly had good experiences, save for the one time my masseuse had some bad B.O. Masseuses are receptive to feedback and listen to what you ask for, particularly if there's a certain area you want them to focus on. I would say that 80% of the time here I was able to walk in without an appointment, but if you really don't want to wait at all then definitely call ahead. The place itself is clean and peaceful. There's a separate foot massage area in the front of the spa, with several beds partitioned off in the back. This spa is mostly quiet, but from time to time you do hear people talking across the way. Service here is always friendly, professional, and gracious. The guy who works the front desk is adorable and accommodating. When he asks how your service was at the end I feel like he really cares about how it went and isn't just going through the motions, which is nice. They also have a punch card here that gets you discounts on a massage after a certain amount of visits, which is a great incentive to keep me coming back for more. read more

A really good massage joint that's has reasonable rates , staff who know what the heck that are doing and a clean private atmosphere so you can get your back , shoulders, knees ,legs , back , feet , worked on . Made a appointment in the afternoon and was booked for the evening for some work on my back and feet . The private room has a very clean comfortable massage bed or whatever it's call and the lady who didn't talk much had powerful hands that were no joke when she was doing her magic. When it was over I did feel a little sore but in a few hours it was total relief. They offer a bunch of services and most I have no clue what they are or the benefits but if you keep it simple like I did , you will feel better eventually. My favorite message place to go to that is in not too far from my neighborhood. Been coming here since they were in the old location across the street. The price used to be $40 for 80 minutes. Due to inflation the price is now $56 for 80 minutes before 3pm. Nonetheless, it's still the best deal in the area. Please continue to provide the special deal that is what makes me come here every month and not elsewhere. Great location, price, cleanliness, and the message is pretty good. Everyone likes their massages a bit differently. My favorite is coco (lady with bangs and ponytail) she gives massages the way I like it (not too hard but not too soft either). Do they also throw in a 20min foot massage after that? Sure do, and I've never had a bad masseuse. Not good compared to the competition. -Poor traffic control. (Someone always seems to be in the bathroom and if you want body massage there's less availability than just for foot). Given this place is on a high traffic main street next to a subway stop they should have more people during rush hours (after work). Half of the rooms go unused on average. - Low privacy as mentioned in other reviews (for body massage). When the curtain blows when the door opens from the draft don't be surprised if you see some old hairy butt cheeks. - Inconsistent quality. If I wanted random back pushing I would hire my 2 year old nephew to jump up and down on my back. - LOUD. Due to management being disorganized they are constantly shouting or yelling something especially when a customer walks in. - Tip haggling for poor service as mentioned in other reviews. Don't bother trying to make an appointment most times walk-ins are prioritized, it won't be honored. They don't care about repeat customers. This isn't the most fabulous or chic massage parlor, but the staff is really friendly and I personally felt extremely relaxed and rejuvenated after my 15 minute massage. My WFH chair isn't the best, and after 4+ hours of zoom calls I began to build up tension in my right shoulder where I hold stress. I ran here on my lunch break and they were able to squeeze me in. My girlfriend and I went for a massage recently, we saw the prices at Happy Spa were very affordable and it was nearby. We had no trouble making an appointment and were excited for the included 20 minute foot rub. The decor is not swanky, but we did not have qualms about that, our issue with this place is the poor massage. Having a Sports Medicine background, I know a bit about how to give a massage, unfortunately this is not what we received. We got pressed upon, gently shaken and rubbed very gently which is great if you want a back rub. But if you want an actual massage with even mild pressure this is not the place for you. The caressing was relaxing, but was generally ruined by the constant ringing of the front doorbell or talking just on the other side of the curtain. If this was the only issue I would have probably given them two or three stars. They also shortened our massage by about 5-10 minutes and then made us get dressed and move to another area to get the foot rub which they were going to leave out if we did not ask for it. Due to these issues my girlfriend and I agreed to give them a $7 tip each. We generally are very generous tippers (especially my girlfriend) when the service is quality. As we payed, the woman who rung us up, refused to give me my credit card back because I did not give a $10 tip each. We explained why we were giving them a $7 tip and yet she still made us so uncomfortable that eventually I gave her the $10 dollars instead of fighting with her. We will not be going back and I can't say I recommend this place to anyone. read more

Such a horrible "massage" more like a gentle rubbing of my skin and squishing my internal organs by putting her body weight on me. It was run down looking and the rooms were only separated by curtains so you can hear everything. The massage was so bad, we decided to only give a $7 tip, which is still overly generous for the quality of massage. She harassed us until we gave her more money for a tip even though I told her it was a bad massage and wasn't worth the $45. Happy Spa? Not so happy. I've given this place plenty of opportunities. They shave off minutes by either cutting it short of time or stepping away to do other things in the middle of the massage. When places started opening up after lockdown I decided to support a local business and also treat myself since I was furloughed, stressed (much like everyone) and this place was fairly affordable. So, as I mentioned, they shaved off time and in addition, when I tipped WELL OVER 20%, they blocked the door because the lady who did the massage, through the translator, said she didn't think that was enough tip. First of all what is it with Chinese massage parlors constantly doing that? It's not the first time this has happened. Secondly, you shaved off time, didn't understand what I was trying to tell you to focus on, and didn't do a full body massage. Then, with the foot massage @ the end you spent more time on one than the other and on the other one you didn't use any cream or oil. Just whatever was left over on your hands from the first foot. CRAP place. And let me also mention that they tables smell. Oh! and in addition to all this they don't even honor your punch cards. read more

I was taken to the massage room and then told to wait for my massage. I waited in the room for about 20 minutes disrobed waiting for the masseuse to show up. Finally he shows up and is continuously going in and out of the room. Then, someone else is talking loudly on the phone next to my section. Then the phone rings again, my masseuse goes to pick it up and another lady comes in to massage me. This place is unprofessional, Loud (not ideal for a "spa"), understaffed, and massage is the worst part. Do not take the free leg massage, as I wasn't able to walk for over 1 week and had to order crutches to be able to walk. I don't write reviews but this place deserves 0 stars. read more

I got a massage from Jake, who started off easy and was then attentive to knots, working from multiple angles to get those suckers released. He was snoring in the middle of it, and he normally never falls asleep during a massage! He is now singing praises. Great massage (both body and foot) by a very hard-working and friendly staff. They may not have swanky high-end spa decor, but they make up for it with quality service at a fair price. Have a number of male and female friends who frequent here as well and they have all had very positive experiences. When I can, I try to get the hour massage for 40$ before 3pm on weekdays, but the 45$ for 1 hour massage and 30 min foot rub is also a good option.
