The requisite 50% deposit was paid with the balance due on check-in day of departure. We arrived 30 minutes before as required and when I saw the stairway down to the docks, I knew there was a problem. I was in a bad accident and have residual issues. I mentioned the problem with the stairs, no problem, they directed me to drive to the docks where I took a ramp down and climbed up one stair to get on the boat. Mr. Max is a smaller vessel that accommodated 20 passengers. Lifejackets were offered but not a requirement. We were fortunate to choose a calm sunny day, and the waves were huge and really rocking the boat. I was loaded with Dramamine and still felt a bit queasy. We saw plenty of whales but I was not fortunate enough to capture them on film. The captain gave brief oral highlights about the grey whales currently migrating. Thank goodness we took the hour-long cruise as opposed to the two-hour adventure, my stomach would not have held out two hours of the rocking. Overall, worth the price and experience!

As a teacher myself, to watch the passion and excitement just come through when Carrie gave us our tour was enough to revive my own passion and excitement in learning. Don't skip the video or the opportunity to view the exhibits in the museum, there is much to learn about these amazing creatures. Depoe Bay is blessed with a plentiful food source, and a protective environment for grey whales. I've lived in the Pacific Northwest most of my life and have taken for granted just how accessible whales really are in this region. During peak migration months it's possible to view the whales right from your car as you're driving down Highway 101! From the moment we booked our $55 tickets for a six-person, 90-minute whale watching tour along the coast, everyone at Eco Excursions made us feel welcome. It's evident these folks really love what they do, because everything just fell into place. Booking tickets was easy, checking in was a breeze, any concerns about locating and boarding the boat were taken care of. Our guide was friendly and informative, and really went out of his way to make sure we had a pleasant experience. There's something so magical about viewing these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Experiencing whale breath, viewing them so closely you can count the barnacles attached to them, and repeatedly seeing them surface and fluke... nothing compares! It's difficult to explain the pure joy I felt out on the water with a team who clearly bring their A-game to work every day! Thank you so much, Whale Research Eco Excursions - your tour ranks very highly in the list of my most treasured life experiences.

Very safe for everyone who understands how to stay in the raft, so, not for the small or irresponsible. The whales show, usually, and can do spectacular displays. Recommend highly for those who want a good, safe intro to seacreatures! Lots of birds, too.

I LOVE zodiac boats, but I really didn't quite understand WHAT I was in for on this trip. First, it starts with just GETTING OUT of the harbor. The guy was hesitating when I went up to the dock. It was a little rocky out. Depoe Bay is the world's smallest harbor (see pictures). Its tiny. The big waves smash in, and well, you know zodiac boats are those orange rubber boats and are, well, er, small. You can only go out of Depoe Bay on a fairly good day, as the waves coming INTO this tiny harbor make it nigh impossible to get OUT in any boat, let alone a zodiac. Add a little bit of bad weather and well, Madness Ensues. OMG! we went VERTICAL trying to get up and over the waves to get OUT of the harbor. Once we got out, and we had to try about 3 times, he sped up the boat and well, More Madness Ensued. Its like a really fast, rocky roller coaster and you're not strapped in. Then there's the whales, petting distance, from me in the small rubber boat. Whale bigger than boat. Well, it was a rollicking good time - and I went hoarse with laffing and screaming. The boat dude was laffing his head off at me. They basically guarantee you a whale sighting, as the whales live there and hang there quite a bit. And yes, I saw em. They were BIG and beautiful. This qualifies as one of the best times I have ever had in my life! GO FOR IT! its KaRAAAzee fun. Find the zodiac guys right there on Highway 101 on the cement bridge over the dock - and No No NO, don't take the boring wooden boat trip. GET ON THAT ZODIAC!
