The park has bathrooms and benches to eat at right off the parking lot. The trail to the beach isn't paved past the look out so you will need to be able to traverse the rocky hill to get down. But there were a lot of tide pools just not with many things to look at in them. We explored the beach for about an hour with the cold wind and fog. My husband found a clam in the rocks which was cool. As we were leaving a woman was writing on the beach with a large rake. Pretty cool to see once we got back up the hillside.

Peaceful walk on the beach @ Agate Beach in Newport, OR. !…read more We found this great spot off of NW Oceanside Dr. and were pleasantly surprised with how much soft and clean sand there was leading up to the ocean! The sand space was expansive and we were happy to feel like we had our own private beach even though there were many other parties enjoying this area as well. We did not encounter any trash along our walk through the rolling hills of sand or by the ocean waves. There were some sketchy looking vehicles in the parking lot, but the beach is everyone's right, and we were not bothered by anyone during our time here. The bathrooms were clean and stocked with supplies. We would look forward to enjoying the beach at this location again.

We had originally planned to get here early enough to take a whale watching boat tour, but it was so incredibly foggy, we decided to just park and see what we could on the walkway on the main street though town. While a trip out on one of the many boats that leave from here would have been fun, since they all seem to come right near to the shore to see the same whales we were seeing, we saved a few bucks and had a great walk through town instead. There's an informative whale info center, with some great views from their second floor observatory (we even saw a sea lion or two lounging out on the rocks!) along with all the usual gift shops and some pretty good restaurant choices, all in easy walking distance. I'd say go EARLY, both to take the whale watching tours, which seemed to be selling out pretty quickly, in spite of the fog, and to avoid the MUCH larger crowds that seemed to be arriving just as we were heading out around lunch time. Don't let the crowds scare you too much though; it's a great stop and DEFINITELY worth a visit!!

We were unsure about the parking situation so we decided on the far end of the aquarium lot and walked to the bay from there. The out & back trail is paved most of the way, turning to gravel near the end. It's less than a mile one way, and flat and easy for anyone to enjoy. Birds are plentiful and the bay is gorgeous. We spent quite a bit of time watching all the different species enjoying the serenity of the estuary. There are a few educational signs along the way that we found useful while trying to decide what birds we were seeing. It's a lovely and quiet spot...bring your sunblock, camera, and binoculars!!

There are some picnic benches and regular bench seating for more awesome views. It's a good spot to watch for whale's swimming by or just enjoy the waves.

So fortunate to find a nice place to stay in Newport through AirBnb. The house has a fantastic view…read moreof the Newport coast overlooking the marina with the historic Yaquina Bay Bridge. It is located in the Newport Bay Front which is a main tourist destination. A walk to the harbor was a very nice experience. Take the boardwalk that'll lead you to the port where beautiful yatchs and fishing boats are docked. I even had a short conversation with some friendly fishermen hanging around. There are a few sea lions in this area where you can come as close as you may want but I don't think it's a good idea so I headed to the wooden docks. Here I saw more sea lions that was really fun to watch. Also had the chance to talk with crabbers in the docks. Such friendly people in this city. I was amused with all the murals I see along the way to the shopping district where the restaurants and souvenir shops are located. Overall, a nice walking and sightseeing experience!

I was visiting the Newport area on a very stormy weekend, and wanted easy parking, great views, and…read moreimmediate access to the beach. After a brief search online, a few reviews pointed to Lost Creek State Park just seven miles south of Newport. I decided to give it a shot! Just off the highway, visitors will find a medium sized parking lot with space for roughly 20-25 cars. Half of the parking spaces face the ocean with only a 4 foot fence between the parking lot and the bluff below. There are great views just from the parking lot! Immediately to the left visitors will find a paved path that goes downhill to a public restroom, with a fair number of very sturdy picnic tables that line the path all the way to the beach below. This site makes for a great place to stop for a picnic and enjoy the ocean views. The path to the beach isn't very steep, however the pavement is a little bumpy due to root growth below, as well as some potholes. The park has done a pretty good job of outlining some of the bigger bumps and holes to alert folks with mobility issues. The trail is passable for wheelchairs as long as someone helps to navigate the bumps. There are many recreation sites along the coast, but if you're looking for quick and easy access to the beach at a site that might not have too many visitors, I have a hunch this is a safe bet.
