Discovered Tesla charging stations "hidden" in the rear of the center, see picture. I have to admit, when we did NOT know better approximately 20 years ago, we used to come here often. But the environment has changed, and not for the better. Way busier, more car break-ins, more poor drivers, etc. And really no brands that I personally shop. Plus, we now have the Livermore outlets! Which is still my favorite! Atmosphere - 23 businesses, see website. Crazy busy on weekends. Limited parking. Potential car break-ins; see parking lot signs. Public restrooms near Starbucks, good luck. You do not even have a rideshare drop off/pick up area. Open 7 days a week. Service - Depends on where you shop. Price - Outlet pricing. A longtime ago, trains went up and down these streets, and a train station was located here. Well, the trains are gone now. But the business district that surrounded the station remains. The storefronts are different, but the unique blend of businesses still attract customers. What's here now? Unique places like: - Westside Joe's Bikes - Malaya Tea Room - Alameda Shade Shop - State Farm Insurance - In Town Chiropractic - Gruber's Bazaar - numerous Hair, Nail and Beauty Salons I dropped a star because there's no grocery or liquor store. But it is very close to Morton Station, which has a grocery store. Caroline Station is only 3 blocks east of Washington Park, which places it walking distance from Webster Street. It's also on the edge of Alameda's Gold Coast area. Only street parking available. Caroline Station is best visited on foot. If you drive, you'll probably miss the small shop called Gruber's Bazaar, which used to be Inkblot Gallery. Well, now you know why this small collection of shops are here. Its unusual to have peace and quiet of a remote location and also convenience of various businesses. The biggest problem with living in the Hayward hills is how it takes 20 minutes to get almost anywhere. Its seriously a problem and not exaggerated at all. Nothing up in the Hayward hills - except houses - and sure they are nice ones... but nothing else of interest nearby. A view is the only selling point. And its fascinating to think some people in the Hayward hills live without a view and with all the inconvenience that is Hayward hills living. The direct neighbors here enjoy a Chinese fast food, a bank, and a supermarket - among other places. Its a good mix with a little of everything. I find myself going to the Safeway here often as it is only 1.6 miles from my home. I pass exactly 2 other Safeways and its worth it as the Hayward Safeway and CVB/RRR Safeway are always hectic. This is the Safeway I go to when I'm not in the mood for Safeway but have to go to Safeway for some reason or another. To tell you the truth I don't ever get in the mood to go to Safeway... the crazy coupons and long lines and pricing games don't appeal to me all that much - reason why I'm a WF TJ fan. Shopping is really something I don't enjoy - with the exception of maybe car shopping... that can be fun... And some sleezy guy in a polyester suit won't ruin that for me. I won't. I can't. Don't talk such nonsense. I'd say the only negative aspect of this shopping is the parking lot. Often I find myself lost, dazed, confused.... and looking for an exit. I'd say its designed like some maze or casino your not allowed to leave until you've lost all your money. Casinos design their floorplans like that on purpose. This place I don't know what the deal is... Easy to get in. Impossible to find your way out. I gurantee you will be circling a few times wondering whats going on. And I doubt its not just me. Round and round you go. Your going to find everything except the exit when you need it. To tell you the truth I mostly go to upscale supermarkets. I'm very needy when it comes to grocery shopping. I need a team of people guiding me and helping me find stuff. Safeway just doesn't have that level of help. If you live in downtown Hayward come here for the Safeway. Its a short five minute drive. And you've been warned about that parking lot.They should put signs up or something so you can find your car.

Old Oakland and Oakland Chinatown are just a few blocks away. Lots of small places to eat here, although most are closed during the weekend. You can tell this is a major lunch area during the week for businesses located here and the surrounding area. I think if they promoted this place a little better, it has the potential to be a very popular place, mostly because it is so aesthetically pleasing!!

Lots of beautiful plants in flower beds and more in big pots. Very cool fountain adorned with a colorful sculpture. Security guard on duty to maintain peace and order. Pretty good selections of shops for your coffee runs or quick bites. Many restaurants to choose from. It gets quite busy though during lunchtime. I saw long lines in subway, Popeyes, Panda Express and Starbucks. Looks like these are the go to places for employees on their lunch breaks. I didn't dine here but I had a cupcake which I enjoyed while sitting in the patio in front of the water fountain. Had a quick chat with the security guard. Overall, nice ambience and atmosphere in here. I don't mind hanging around again when in the area.

It's also just a short walk to World Market, a nearby movie theater, and downtown Oakland. If you're driving, there's a convenient parking garage. What I love most is that you don't have to spend any money to enjoy yourself. You can sit under the trees, watch the boats, stretch out on the grass, listen to live music, and simply enjoy the waterfront. The square itself is pedestrian-friendly, so you can relax without traffic rushing by. Sundays are especially enjoyable with the farmers market and live performances. Today I'm listening to the talented musicians from the Oaktown Jazz Workshops, who also have a home right here in Jack London Square. Every now and then, you'll hear a train passing by, which somehow adds to the character of the place. I'm really going to miss The Plank. It was such a fun community gathering spot and a place where I often came just to unwind. Another bonus is the free shuttle from Alameda, which makes getting here easy and enjoyable. Whether you're looking for a meal, a movie, a waterfront stroll, or simply a peaceful no cost place to sit and recharge, Jack London Square is well worth a visit.

I always see my folks in the jewelry section, so there's that. Located in East Oakland (Yeah, that's right), the larger parking lot is in the back, which I suggest since it's easier to get in and out of. Maybe it's me, but I've always liked coming here!!
