Yes, the crowd here is "interesting", as my friend said on Instagram the other day: "Feel like I'm in caddy shack", but that is genuinely the appeal of this place. I'm honestly surprised how clean the pool is. No troubles there with floating ban-aids and kids in dippers. I would have suspected being in the North End, it would be dirty, but that's not that case. I'm looking forward to many more days spent down at the MP. Hint: buy a lounge chain or something so you dont have to lay on your towel on the hard cement. NO GRASS at this place, be aware. But I mean, if you are into that sort of thing, laying on pavement, go for it... New find, long live MP! My skin will be soaking in extra rays this summer!

You have to make a reservation ahead of time, which helps limit the number of people. A couple things that I wish I had known ahead of time: there are a few benches by the pool, but no pool chairs. Sitting directly on the concrete wasn't great. However, you can bring pool chairs and a lot of people did that.

Coast Guard Beach seemed great also except for the fact that we would have to park and then take a shuttle to the shore. We decided on this beach, which seems to have the same feel as Coast Guard. We got there at about 945am on a Tuesday morning in August. There were only a handful of parking spots left at The Beachcomber. Parking was $30 but we got a voucher to use toward food or souvenirs from The Beachcomber (the food and mixed drinks there were very good). The beach is accessible by a pathway on a sand dune that is tall and steep. Going down was easy. Going back up required a few rest stops for me. I'm pregnant and I was carrying our 1.5 year old. It probably would've been easier for me had I not been pregnant but this is definitely not a trek for anyone with physical limitations. My 4 year old went up and down twice but her legs were really burning the 2nd time going up. This is one of the best beaches I've ever been to. Sapphire water and soft sand. Quiet crowd and limited cell service, which added to the relaxation. The shore is a little rocky but doable without water shoes. Once you walk into the water a few feet from the shore the rocks give way to soft sand. The water was cold. I almost felt like I was taking an ice bath. But it felt great once I got acclimated and really helped me cool down in the 85 degree weather. It was a really special experience and so picturesque. One important note: there is a danger of sharks because of the booming seal population. We saw seals in the early afternoon swimming playfully about 20 feet from shore. Some locals will not get in the water if they spot seals-- that means sharks could be nearby. There were lifeguards on duty and also a shark patrol boat along the coast but it's still a little scary! The current got very strong in the early afternoon. I'm used to the crashing waves at the Atlantic beaches in NY and this undertow concerned even me.

His bravery was recounted in the movie Lone Survivor. A native of Exeter, this pool was dedicated in his name. This slightly dated, 1960s era outdoor pool is great for singles, seniors and families. With shaded patio tables under big umbrellas, poolside also has a charming outdoor shower to rinse off after a swim and where littles can safely play in the cool spray on hot summer days. They offer swim lessons but not this year following the pandemic. The Healy pool has a not-quite Olympic-length pool for lap swims (dedicated lap swim hours M-W-F 8-9 am) with an L-shaped extension complete with fun slides where many of the kids splash.. There are at least two lifeguards on duty at all times but signs advise parents to supervise their children. They give color wrist bands to all swimmers after lifeguards test you can safely swim in the deep end. It's an outdoor pool so it's open mid-June through August, weather permitting. Oddly, the pool closes if there aren't enough swimmers. It seems wise to call first before driving over. Plenty of free parking available in the private lot.

The pool isn't temperature controlled, it's quite cold on the shallow side but tolerable in the lap lanes. I saw ants on the pool deck so be careful where you put your belongings. The slide is old and useless. This pool is honestly really pitiful, especially for being on an Air Force base- you're better off just going to the beach for free.
