This is my second time with this cleaner. I had a bad experience and I do not recommend anyone to go to this shop. 1st point, the owner is never at the store on or off business hours. Do not expect any in-person service. You have to call the owner to discuss details and he is always on the drive and very impatient to take your call. Secondly, the owner is very disrespectful towards customer and does a poor job communicating with customer. Gerard would seem nice to you, but watch out whenever there's any issue in the process. I left my comforter at his night drop and he quoted me $35 on the phone. He also promises to text or email before charging me because I already left my credit card information with him. Next thing I know, my bank notifies me a $65 charge. I asked Gerard why he didn't inform me in advance about the pricing change like he promised, he starts blaming everything on me and start yelling and blasting aggressive and passive-aggressive things like "i know how I run my business", "take your business somewhere else" while taking 0 responsibility for his failure to communicate. He also cursed on the phone. I don't mind vendors charging whatever they feel fair to charge, it is a free market. I do mind that they don't adhere to their promises, take action based on assumption without clearly communicating with customer, act all self-righteous and give attitude towards customer. These are the worst kind and need to be exposed for their true color. Naturally I'm not going back and I don't recommend anyone to shop there. Try it at your own peril. read more

I have used Harbor Cleaner a few times. The latest experience came as a surprise. I sent the pants for dry cleaning and sewing due to a loose stitch. PRICE: The price is acceptable, not great though. $11 for dry cleaning the pants and $15 for stitching (I was told $8.5 for dry cleaning and 16 for stitching over the phone, but the receipt showed different, which is totally OK). The price is acceptable due to the inflation crisis and pick-up/drop-off service, but there are alternatives you can find at lower prices with similar quality. QUALITY: I am not very satisfied with the stitching work. I communicated with the owner before the order, and I was convinced that the store is the one to go given his knowledge on the phone (e.g., label stitching, special machine, experiences, etc). But that was quite a regret, the quality was not there (this is to blame me for not sending the pants to tailors in the city). The stitching has two issues. 1) there are places with double stitching (don't know the terminology), which is not clean at all. and there are places tighter than the others which feels like a hole CUSTOMER SERVICE: After complaining about the work after receiving it, the owner proposed to take it back and fix it. And after 1 week's wait (called twice), I was told it becomes unfixable and not suggested to fix. As an analogy, if you send your car to the dealership for maintenance and found the car is damaged even though you were promised that it's easy to work. The body shop is OK to refund you the cost of the work and suggested you keep the "NEW" car. From the experience, I don't feel any apology from the owner of the shop, which is totally fine. Maybe I am a demanding client? From the whole experience, I will not and can't use the service of the shop (the owner asked the bag back and mentioned I will not need it any more ). And I am looking forward to the refund :) read more

Amazing! Gerard excels in customer service and is so kind. We have started using harbor cleaners through a drop off/pick up service offered which makes pointing out stains difficult but they have always cleaned everything so well. Once, out of our many times, a silk shirt came back and the stain was still there - it was a tough stain. I called to see if there was anything they could to and Gerard insisted I send it back and they will keep working on it. He reached out to let us know they did what they could but it was still there (although less visible). He said they can continue to try but would risk ruining the fabric. I appreciated his honesty and knowing the fabric well enough to know when to stop. Even more so I appreciate how kind and generous he was through the process, he just wanted to make it right and he did! I am so glad we found this cleaners! read more

His response right away was "there's a great chance it's not there. This is the first time in 30 years anyone has ever left anything like that behind" BS. I dropped off pants at the Hoboken location, apparently just prior to the location going out of business. I was never contacted that the location would be closing. On the third contact attempt, Gerard (owner) answered the phone at the Weehawken location. After providing a description of the pants, as well as the exact date and name of the employee working at the time, he said he would look into it. Two full months later, after numerous unanswered follow-up calls, the pants are still missing. Wash and fold services were good, however, the lack of responsiveness to a missing item has ruined any positive experience. read more

I dropped off 4 pairs of pants at the end of December of last year for alteration. Only 3 of them were delivered about a week and a half later. TLTR: a pair of pants is still missing and it's now March. I called the cleaners about the missing pants. They asked me to describe the pants, then told me they would figure out what had happened to it and will let me know the next day. After not hearing from them for a few days, I've called them back and asked why they haven't contacted me, to which they responded, they are very busy because they're opening up another location, but will figure out what happened to the pants. I told them fine but asked them to contact me proactively and not have me call them for updates when it's their mistake. It took a few days, but they actually called me first and told me they found the pants. I told them great, thanks, etc. and we hung up. Another week and a half or so goes by and I don't get any delivery. I called them and asked where the pants are. They once again asked me to describe the pants. These guys don't know what clothes belongs to what account and needs you to describe it for them. After I described the pants, they told me they had them. I was baffled and asked why they still had them in the cleaners. They said, they were going to call me (but obviously never did) to come by the cleaners, because they need to get measurements. I had already marked the length of the pants by folding them before dropping them off, like I had for the other 3 pants but apparent they lost that too. In any case, I don't know why they didn't ask me for this when they called to tell me they found the pants or take 2 minutes to give me another phone call. Instead they waited a week and a half for me to call them. Not wanting to waste more time dealing with them, I told them to just cut off an inch and send the pants over. After a few days I get notified from the concierge that I have dry cleaning to pick up. This was Feb 13th... About a month and a half had past since I first dropped off those pants. When I went to pick them up, they were not there. The concierge told me he's had similar issues with this cleaners, and doesn't recommend them to the residents. Great. I called the cleaners again on the 15th and told them that the item was not delivered. They told me it was sent to the wrong location and that they will correct it. Again, I don't understand how they either don't know that they've messed up or just don't bother to let their customer know and fix the issue until you call them. On Feb 18th I got another notice for dry cleaning pick up. The cleaners even sent an email to me this time saying it was delivered, but once again, the pants were not delivered. I live 5 minutes walking distance away from the cleaners and yet somehow these guys can't go three blocks without losing them. It is now March 3rd, and the cleaners had not contacted me. They probably have no idea that they screwed up yet again. Or maybe they do but don't care. They have not once given any apology. Seriously, not a single sorry. I've emailed them a few hours ago to let them them know that the pants are still missing, but I don't want to waste any more time with them. I asked for a full refund including the price of the pants. Let's see how they respond. read more

They say New York isnt great for out of towners. And that New Jersey isnt far better. But they haven't met the folks at Harbor Cleaners. I had a business meeting in New York and I find that the hem on my pant is undone! I find the nearest cleaners and let them know the meeting is in a few hours. Gio rushed over to his tailor to get it done and although he is about 10-15 mins later than he estimated he offers to take it directly to my hotel to save me some time. I was amazed by the level of service and I tried to pay him and even offer a tip for the rush and the extra step of bringing it to the hotel. He refused payment altogether because he said he was a bit late. Wow. Shook my hand, gave me a great smile and was on his way. Good guy in my book, if I lived on the east coast instead of California he would be my go to guy. read more

I switched over to Harbor Cleaners soon after I joined the financial services company which is the primary tenant at the office building. I found the service to be nothing but excellent. The shirts are laundered well, the pants and ties dry cleaned properly. Also, the owner is very polite and professional and aims to develop a positive relationship with his customers. I've given my business to many dry cleaners over the years, but I have never had service that adapted to your needs, instructions and time constraints. I've also never saw a dry cleaning business respond to emails in a timely manner and with understanding! Harbor Cleaners has been my dry cleaning choice for over a year now and I am very much satisfied with their approach on turnaround, communication and overall "family" feel. People may think it's just a dry cleaner, but when you begin using one commonly as I do - how a dry clear operates is paramount! You clearly have my telephone number and would have used it to give me this response on a personal level if you truly felt this way.
