Before seeing Dr. McLain, my journey with melasma was frustrating and emotionally exhausting. Years ago, I learned how complex and difficult melasma can be to treat, especially for deeper skin tones. After moving to Washington, I visited a med spa where I was confidently told that Moxie laser treatments would improve my pigmentation. Unfortunately, after two sessions, the heat from the laser worsened my melasma, leaving my skin darker and more damaged than before. By the time I found Dr. McLain, I had become extremely cautious and fearful about pursuing further treatment. I waited six months for my appointment, and from the very first visit, I knew I was finally in the right hands. Dr. McLain combines exceptional knowledge with genuine compassion. Every appointment has been thoughtful, thorough, and never rushed. Despite his demanding schedule, he always takes the time to explain every detail, answer every question, and make sure I fully understand both the benefits and the risks of treatment options. That level of care is rare. What moved me most was his willingness to prioritize my safety and long-term results over convenience or production. Before considering Fraxel laser treatment, he offered to do a test spot on my skin first -- simply to ensure that my skin tone would respond safely and appropriately. As someone in healthcare myself, I understand that this is not something providers are obligated to do, especially when it adds extra time without benefit to them. After narrowing down the list, I learned that he was the first in our area to offer this. I read his bio and was impressed--he was chief of surgery in the military, he has trained other surgeons, but especially because he goes on humanitarian missions twice a year to provide cataract surgery to restore vision to the underprivileged in other countries, and he also does the same in the US. I mean, in his time off, what does he do...he performs even more surgery! He is a good man. I was very fortunate to find Dr. Dahlhauser.
