For myself an my family, Harbor Freight provides our needs very well I don't think their stock is of the highest quality but for the average guy who isn't manhandling tools eight hours a day you can't go wrong We especially like all of the accessories needed for house hold tools, auto and truck care, bungee's and lots of stuff you can't find in the chain stores. Mike answered the phone rather rude to my husband and that didn't settle well because he never actually looked with his instant response. Went there personally and walked straight to the part while Mike was happily sitting on the counter (very unprofessional) . We went into HF to purchase a generator. The salesman asked what size we needed. I informed him we wanted to be able to run the fridge, some lights, and the hot water heater. He pointed us to a unit, the we purchased on his recommendation. When we found an electrician he told us it was not anywhere close to b powerful enough. No problem, I thought, since we hadn't opened the box. When I returned it, they said there was a $160 restocking fee on generators. When I mentioned, again, we bought it on their sales persons recommendation, the manager (MARK) said, "Our sales personal are not technicians." Well, then they should not be giving technical advice! They had several more on the shelf, so they didn't lose any sales over me having that for two days. read more

I visited harbor freight many times online but this is the first time I visited them in person. I was very impressed by the store layout. The store was very clean and bright. The isles were very well-marked and easy-to-navigate. I picked out several items and brought them out to the front and checked out rapidly and without problem. Remarkably the store is only a few blocks from where I live so I'll be back for sure. You owe it to yourself to check them out! Outstanding deals you need to see! Everyone I go there, I find something new that I hadn't seen before. Check it out for yourself! Update: Harbor Freight is one of my go-to stores for shopping for anything related to what men do. Their store is packed chock full of tools, small electric tools, safety equipment, anything for repair work. Welders, air compressors, you name it. If you can't find it at Harbor Freight you simply don't need it. The people are friendly and efficient and the store, while pack full, is clean and neatly arranged. You need to allocate a few hours or multiple trips to really appreciate what they have as it is MASSIVE. My recommendation stands. You MUST check them out! read more

Purchase a pair of gloves and a drill bit set for ceramic last week. The ceramic bits worked great so I threw away the receipt today went to put on The gloves and low and behold, it was two left hands, both gloves sealed in the package I thought no problem. I returned to the store with the gloves still attached in the original package. Said good morning to the cashier , no response . Ok maybe she is having a bad day. No problem.I Explain the situation to the cashier told her all I wanted was an even exchange. She stated that without a receipt I could not do an even exchange. I had my same debit card. I had my identification, and she said no, so I went and spoke to the manager, who gave me the same response without a receipt I could not do an exchange. Even with my drivers license and same credit card? Hmmmm I stood in line again purchased the gloves from the same cashier, went back on the line again and gave her the defective gloves with my receipt. Obviously, she knew what I was doing. She gave me a refund I went back in line and brought another another non defective pairYes it was a Waste of time . But I won and made a point. Jeez In the future I will continue to pay a little more, but will shop at Ace hardware. read more

I stopped into Harbor freight on Monday, two days ago. I was looking for two specific things, a saw-blade, and a multi pack of 9mm retractable knives. I was able to quickly locate the software I needed. However, I went up and down all the aisles and I couldn't find the 9mm knives. I went up to the cashier station where Lyza and a mail employee work. Lyza was actively waiting on Customer. The other gentleman wasn't so I asked him if I can ask him my question. He obliged. He didn't think they had the big pack anymore the ones at the counter. There wasn't a price on them. So I asked him if he could scan and tell me how much they were. Now during the exchange with the male employee, Lisa was so abrupt and rude. Numerous times letting me know that I was in her way & like talking under breath, grumbling. Do you want them or not. It's like she was annoying and gonna make sure everybody knew. She was the same way with two other male customers. Eventually, a male employee, a different cash register offered to bring me up. I was so thankful. Sadly, I didn't get the male employees names, I should have. I feel bad that they have to work with such strife caused by one person. People can make or break a business. She clearly doesn't understand she's in a line of work where she's to provide customer service. I realize Lisa won't ruin the franchise of Harbor freight. Even though I got the impression that this is a regular occurrence. Today I needed a couple things to finish my project, typically I would've gone to Harbor freight. Business was good, most of the staff was amazing. Keeping in mind my husband and I come here WAY to often. On this day we came in to purchase a couple tool boxes for the shop. we walked down the isle and there was a man talking to a customer about and I quote " now that tr**p is back, we can get rid of these Darn ( edited) Mex**ans" Now to each their own it is a free country after all. But when I saw who actually said this I was both appalled and embarrassed for several reasons. It was the Store Manager himself that said this, I think his name is Mark. I was flabbergasted. What is worse is How is employees must feel working for a man like that. Even more since I know for a fact that there are atleast two latinos working there a female and male asst managers. HF you should be ashamed of your company if you keep a person like that... Shame on you. We chose to not purchase that day out of pure shock. HF DO BETTER. read more

I hear many appologists for Harbor Freight's quality online. Here is what I found through experience: 1.) Gasoline powered Auger. The machine does a fine job digging holes for fence posts or for tree planting., with one caveat: The bolts on the underside of the auger all need Loctite to be applied to them BEFORE first use, as they are subject to vibration which otherwise will have them dropping into the dirt without warning. Lockwashers would have prevented this as well. 2.) standard Thunderbolt AA batteries used to power a radio headset, consistently provided 1/8th the duration of the same sized Duracell batteries. They WERE cheaper, but not a value by comparison. 3.) Aluminium "Racing" Floor Jack. It folded over (destroyed) shy of the maximum stated load. 4.) The staff at the local store will defend the defenseless, so don't waste your breath telling them ANY of this. 5.) There Solar powered light strings work very well though only to mark a perimeter as opposed to providing illumination. 6.) Predator 3,600 watt GAS generator worked well when used in an emergency setting. Important to let the gas get used up prior to storage. read more

So I went into this place first time this morning. Disclaimer: I am not handy and I don't know what I am doing. A friend told me to get a small grinder to cut my storm shutters because there's a pressure valve in the way. A sales associate was very kind and helped us put it together. They were well stocked and everything seems very organized even though the hurricane is coming. I will definitely come back here if I need anything in the future. read more

Stopped in again today with husband for two specific items. After 45 minutes of walking around checking out all the deals, we left with about a dozen items at fantastic prices. Awesome employees! One of the floor managers, Ernie, assisted my husband with picking out the best tap and die set for his auto job. Meanwhile Denise pointed out where I could find some gloves appropriate for gardening. Everyone who works there seems to really care about the "customer first" motto. Such a fresh change in today's world. Although there was only one cashier visible on duty (it was about 5pm on a Monday evening), the line was quite short. Just as we got in line to checkout, a gentleman about 3 orders ahead of us was purchasing a trailer. Another manager, (did not get his name, but a good looking young man with a short beard) started the paperwork for the trailer while Denise shortened her checkout line as not to delay everyone. Between the two of them they had the trailer sale tagged teamed and done within minutes. She even apologized to us few people left in line, explaining that trailer sales require DMV paperwork and thanked us for our patience. Can not say enough good things about this store.
