This place is a dump. I stayed with a friend who booked the room. They were so embarrassed. The outdated pictures don't represent current conditions. Dust, dirt, cobwebs, everywhere. Bedding so thin you can see through the blankets , towels you could sand wood with. Torn plastic covers on the mattresses. Blinds didn't work, musty smell, ceiling tiles peeling. Paint over everything from a very sloppy long ago attempt at painting part of the room. It had all the shabby/no chic, no historic charm with cheap particle board , furniture and vinyl wall paper, lol. They clearly have not put a dime into maintaining the property. RUN FOREST RUN!!!!! For the prices they charge they must be laughing at everyone on the way to the bank thinking what chumps that they sucker into staying there. No wonder they suggested calling for reservations and have a no refund policy. read more

This b and b is an interesting stop for wine country. The people are wonderful and helpful. They have plenty of options and suggestions for places to go, see and things to do. This place is also close to a local tavern and a very good deli. The rooms are basic and small. But we didn't come here to stay in our rooms. They were clean and provide towels and a small amount of shampoo and body wash. I do suggest you bring your own. The choices were very basic and not something I would buy for my daily use. But I love that it was provided in case you forget. At night they even have a fire pit out front that is a wonderful place to stop and relax. If I am ever back in town with how reasonable this place was for the price I will be staying here again. read more

This was a great budget hotel option. We booked it last minute to come with our friends. Yes the building is old, but the rooms are clean and well kept. The decor is a bit county, but that didn't bother me because it was not dingy and dirty. Our room had a nice with drawers underneath. There was a desk and mini fridge. There was a very tiny tv, but let's face it. Who comes here to sit in their room and watch tv? The wi-fi worked very well for us which was clutch because Verizon has no service out here. We downloaded maps with our wi-fi to get us around during our visit. The lobby also offers paper maps too. And the gal at the front desk gave us some great recommendations. They do offer a complimentay hot breakfast when they have 3 or more rooms filled. This usually isn't an issue on weekends or during summer-fall. If they don't offer the breakfast, at least they have instant oatmeal, coffee and tea in the dining area. We had breakfast one morning and it was nice. Egg and bacon muffins, sausage and toast. There was also fruit, coffee and tea. It's not fancy, but it was filling and free. There's also an outdoor fire pit. Since it was snowing each night, we didn't use that. But our room was toasty, cozy and warm. If you're looking to for a good, budget option for lodging. I'd suggest giving this place a try. We were really pleased with our visit. read more

It is very hard to find a friendly place to sleep with such charm. I believe in posting the positive and wish that all would do the same when it comes to small businesses. Frank and Debbie were so kind to us! We had no reservations and was driving through. Hermann is so beautiful we had to stay at least one day to enjoy it! We had a free breakfast with good company. It's always very clean and the owner Frank has been there many years. They love pets, kids, and people. You are not just a number there, everyone has a name and they are like family to all. We booked via Airbnb and are accustomed to rentals not offering every 4 star hotel amenity. For example, window air conditioning units don't bother us and we see them as a built in sound machine. Checkin was easy and our room was ready. The room was well cleaned. The linens were fresh, unwrinkled and neat. All promised amenities were available. The room was quiet. The bed was comfy. The bedroom was good sized. Furniture was in good shape and decor was interesting. I appreciate the variety and it seems like an effort for comfort is made rather than trying to make a museum like some places. Like other posters, this reminds me of staying at my great grandparents home, which I found comforting. It's only about a 8 minute walk to the train station, but it's far enough that I don't hear the train or any road traffic, which is pleasant as the main purpose of my stay is the sleep. The area is easy to get around and I liked getting to see parts of town off the main street. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Pets were allowed and our small dog was very comfortable in the room since he couldn't see or hear anything to distract him. read more

I made reservations for the last weekend in March, this also is the weekend of Wurst Fest. When I made this booking I paid upfront. Now with this virus in the US and we were told to stay home, the festival was postponed. I called to cancel and was told it was nonrefundable. After much discussion they finally agreed to give me a credit minus 20%. I have no problem with the credit portion but with the US state of emergency and also every state doing the same, being told to stay home and the active cases not a long way from there. I feel I am unjustly being penalize 20%. I am on a fixed income and 60+ dollars is a lot to me. If they won't refund the money in its entirety then keep it as a credit but dont penalize me for doing the right thing. read more

It's hard to write a review for this place as it is so quirky. If you are looking for fancy rooms, a real television set in the room, a coffee maker in the room, forget it. It's more like staying in the guest bedroom of someone's house. However, the owners are kind fun loving people and I had a good night's sleep. It was not modern, but we knew that going in. We wanted to take a day trip this past weekend to the wineries and we really prefer quaint little places. This one delivered big on charm. We stayed in one of the cottages (#25) across the street from the office and main building. It had side by side jetted soaker tubs, which was awesome. We got in after 7 on Saturday night and decided to party with the locals for a while at one of the bars downtown. Breakfast was okay, but my boyfriend doesn't eat pork and even the eggs were wrapped in ham. The owner Frank is a great guy and the people that work with him are stellar. Good service and conversation. We were well rested for our afternoon of winery hopping. I'd stay again. read more

Recently returned from an anniversary weekend in Hermann. We stayed at Harbor Haus one night, a Saturday, in the River Loft. The River Loft consists of enough space for 4 adults (two king beds), but you'd want to be pretty comfortable with anyone staying with you. There's not much separation between the 2 "rooms". There's a jacuzzi tub...right out in the open. And the only thing that gives you privacy in the shower in a curtain. But hubby and I were staying there alone for our anniversary, so it was just fine for us. The breakfast was good. They also had a fire and s'mores set up Saturday evening, but we didn't partake. The only thing I'd like to see different is some bug spraying. We had a pesky fly in our room and a couple spiders. There were a lot of cobwebs in the outdoor deck areas too. Not a fan. Get a Webster and get to cleaning, people! The towels are also pretty cheap, so if you're going to mind a scratchy towel, bring your own. There are plenty of places around the area that are a lot nicer, but for the price, this was, like my rating says, "A-Ok." read more

For a budget stay within walking distance to downtown, stay here. The room is very small with decorations straight out of grandma's house. The bed is pretty hard, but just drink more wine and you won't even notice. The owners are very accommodating; we drove down after work so they left the room unlocked for us rather than require us to stick to Hermann's regular limited check-in hours. At breakfast (which is Aldi sausage, bread, eggs in a cupcake wrapper, and apples), some ladies were talking about roasting marshmallows the night before in the fire pit. I was sad we missed that! This is not a luxurious, romantic place, but it's clean and a good value. * Bring your toiletries - there was no shampoo, soap, or hair dryer in Room 10. read more

I understand that all the rooms in Herman are over-priced. But our room at the Harbor Haus was very overpriced for the style of accommodations it offers. I like hotels that honor the history of the area, but I don't like my room to smell old or to worry about bugs and spiders. The rust on the floor registers is a nice touch as well. Very over price for what they are offering. Clean it up a bit, modernize the furniture and other amenities, put a frick'n hair dryer in the bathroom for your guests, and get rid of the tube style TV. Flat screens are on sale. I must mention to be accurate, we stayed in suite number 14 and didn't see the other rooms or buildings. There are many buildings associated with the hotel. read more

Way overpriced for what you get. We stayed in a standard room for 180 bucks. Everything is old. The tv is an old tube crt about a 19". Ironing board but no iron. No robes as stated on website. No coffee pot, no hair dryer, NO ICE MACHINE or Vending machines. If you want ice get it from the office before they close. No laundry facilities. No pool. Their free breakfast consists of poached eggs, sausage, and toast. That's probably why there's a list in the room of the local restaurants that serve breakfast. The website claims they are located 1300 feet from the train station. That has got to be the longest 1300 feet I've ever walked. More like a half mile. I've stayed in 4 star motels for less money. This place is a real disappointment. read more

My mom and I stayed at Harbor Haus for a Mother/Daughter weekend. The staff was absolutely amazing and the rooms were super clean. This B&B doesn't offer a huge breakfast, and I'm sure that's what helps keep the cost down, but it was delicious none the less.There is a bakery, chocolate shop and candy place within walking distance as well as several restaurants. Harbor Haus offers a lot of antique charm, like going to visit your great grandma's house! There is free wifi, and general tv channels, but the TVs are old school style. We weren't in Hermann to hang out in our room and watch TV, so it didn't bother us. My mom and I highly recommend Harbor Haus!! read more

Great experience! Customer Service was fabulous! Stayed a weekend during the wine trail and the rates were amazing! Got a double bed suite and it was adorable. The customer service was amazing since we had to do a late arrival the called and made sure we knew where and how to get to our room the night of our checkin. Breakfast was good. This place was great. I had one night to spend in town and they found a room for me and my friend when I had messed up our reservation. Good location and if you are in town for a wine tour the trolley will take you right back to your hotel. Really helpful and friendly staff. Rooms were clean and homey. My favorite thing was the breakfast served. It was obviously homemade and so different from what is usually included in a complimentary breakfast. I would definitely stay here again. read more

If the rates were less expensive, the review may be 2 or even 3 stars. Breakfast is atrocious unless you want toast. Our room had spiders, live and dead, as well as other bugs. The furniture and decor is VERY dated, worn, and kind of dirty. Location is okay. We had windows with no treatments making it impossible to sleep past sunrise. The robes provided were someone's garage sale finds from the 70s as was the furniture (okay, maybe the 1980s). The free wifi was terrible and almost nonfunctional if you want to surf the web. This place is overpriced for the poorest quality rooms ever. No outlets in the bathrooms if you choose this horrible place. Bath towels and decor were from a 1973 yard sale and my family members received extra towels unfolded in a pile. We had some sort of Skeleton spine in the dressers our mattress was on. My husband and I recently stayed at the Harbor Haus for a weekend getaway for our anniversary. I love to stay in unique places and this place is defintaly unique! The room was very clean and I loved the decore made me feel like home. The staff was very friendly and helpful with maps and directions showing us the things we dont want to miss while we were on our trip. Breakfast was unique as well with little nestle eggs (thats what they call them) and maple sauage also the best coffee Ive had in a long time. They had a fire going outside both Friday and Saturday night but it was very cold. I will be coming back to enjoy that and the whole experence again!!! Three of my girlfriends and I took a 2-day trip to Hermann MO just before the 4th. We booked a two-room suite at Harbor Haus. Upon our arrival after a not-so-short drive we were told that we couldn't check in until 3; our time of arrival was 2:35. While this would be wholly understandable if other people were still using our rooms, this was not the case. The rooms we were given were in a house a few blocks over from the main address, and was completely empty. We would find out the next morning we were one of three very small groups staying at the bed and breakfast at that time. One would think that some of the staff would be more lenient and accommodating considering the small number of guests in their care. The house was kitschy and cute, very clean and inviting with a beautiful deck overlooking the river. The location of the house, nestled in a residential area rather than on the main drag, made us feel less like tourists and more comfortable overall. The coffee creamer provided at the house was a year past it's expiration date, and the breakfast left much to be desired for those who don't eat meat. The staff at breakfast was exceedingly friendly, taking time to talk to us and clear our plates, a welcomed difference from our less-than-friendly experience the day before. Overall, this was a pleasant experience with just a few small snags. read more
