This review is long overdue as I feel weird posting reviews about medical professionals, but this is the way the world works these days so here it goes. I have been seeing the pediatricians here since my 1st was born 12/2020. We mostly see dr. Zelkin, however all the doctors and the staff are absolutely phenomenal. My daughter has had some complex medical issues but Dr. Zelkin consistently provides the most compassionate, comprehensive care. Very rarely do you find a doctors office that doesn't brush off your concerns and will see you same day, sometimes even within an hour of calling. They make our family feel seen and heard and not just like a number. Referrals are done promptly and appropriately and we have never once felt rushed or like we left without clear explanations of the plan. Our family is so grateful for the care we have received and whole heartedly recommend this office. read more

I take my son to Dr Chen here on the recommendation from my OB. I'm so glad I took the recommendation because they're great. The staff and the doctor are very kind and very gentle. I trust their advice and my baby is flourishing. I really like that they have vulnerable patients such as my newborn come in early. When we show up we check in outside and then get walked into his room to wait for the doctor. The doctor is proactive in letting us know what to expect in the coming weeks and months and thoroughly checks my baby. Been coming here since my babies 13 years ago. Have been happy with the Doctors. Unfortunately the front office staff is disrespectful. Our new insurance was set up incorrectly. Instead of knowing that we've been good patients for the last 13 years & whatever insurance issues will be worked out. They treated us like criminals who needed to pay cash before we received service. The way they handled the situation was very upsetting and could have been easily avoided. read more

While I've had pleasant experiences with these folks, the majority of the time I'm working with cavalier attitudes and lackadaisical responses and that can be frustrating in this already frustrating environment. Doctors are always late and not by 15-20 minutes but usually by 30-45 minutes on average. So I'm at a point where it's just not worth coming here anymore. read more

Dr. Michelis, Zelden and Chen are wonderful doctors! We see Michelis on a regular basis for the last 10 years and my children love him. My youngest caught a life threatening sepsis and was seen on a Saturday. He may not have survived it if it wasn't for the doctors willing to see him on the weekend and calling ahead to CHOC. In addition, Dr. Michelis has an amazing bedside manner, talks at the kids level and is always in a good mood. He reminds me of Mr. Rogers. We highly recommend him, his staff and the triage nurse Susie. read more

Wonderful doctors and practice overall. All the doctors and nurses are compassionate and have been great diagnosticians and caregivers for our kids. It is usually easy to get an appointment and having Saturday hours has been a huge help. One thing that stands out is their consistently custom approach of treating patients - avoiding blanket / off the shelf solutions but instead tailoring it to exactly the type of care the kids need. It is rare to find a medical clinic like this anymore - wish I could say the same great things about the family medicine / internal medicine practice that I go to! read more

Really bummed, predatory billing. They are charging $60 for the nurse to administer flu shots. They put it separately from the wellness charge because they're able to get the full amount of it doesn't get sent through to insurance and goes straight to the patients. I'm so tired of the scams doctors play, it takes a lot of phone calls but don't pay these dumb fees. read more

My baby is 3 months and so far I've thought that Harbor has been great! I have met 3 of the Dr.s and really loved each one. They have been able to take me that day if needed and can make last minute appointments easily. They seem knowledgeable and happy to help give information and offer help in deciding if medication is necessary or not. Love this pediatric office. Great doctors and awesome staff. No matter our problem they've been so helpful and accommodating. Love the office phone nurse too... She's a great help when we don't know what to do sometimes. There's more than one doctor, we have always been able to get in... Even in a last minute panic. I really liked this place but the only reason I'm giving a low score and why I'm not taking my baby to Dr Chen anymore is because your billing and communication it's one of the worst I've ever dealt with, also because mainly your office manager and Kimberly are lacking of people skills. I signed up with this office right before my child was born. Dr. Chen was the attending pediatrician immediately following birth, even though I planned to have another Dr. in the office (Dr. Michelis). When making hospital rounds, Dr. Chen told me to expect my child to lose weight (up to 10%), but also was curious that they were losing weight. Before discharge, he ordered a jaundice test, but never responded to the hospital once the results were received. We waited for hours until a charge nurse finally reviewed the results and deemed us safe for release. In the office in the days after discharge, Dr. Chen was surprised that my child had yellow skin and wondered if jaundice was an issue (weird, because he already ordered the test and clearly never looked at the results). Dr. Chen neither offered guidance or support in our visits. I saw Dr. Michelis in our next visit, and he seemed incredibly anxious. His tone was harsh and judgmental. My child was not feeding well and he blamed me. He wanted me to begin formula for my newborn, but failed to provide any guidance as to a feeding plan. Thankfully, my best friend witnessed his behavior and confirmed that she would not trust him with her children. Last I saw Dr. Mendoza. Her communication was a lot more clear, but I felt that she spoke to me in a condescending tone which only added to my feelings of distress caused by this pediatric group. Before my child was 2 weeks old, I switched to another local office and found a doctor who repeatedly wins Pediatrician of the Year from Greater Newport Physicians. Her name is Dr. Jennifer Rodriguez. She is genuine and supportive, even as a traditional allopathic physician. read more

Dr. Eugene Chen is my baby's doctor since the baby was born. He is very patient and thorough. Harbor Pediatric is very far from where I live (about 50 minutes away) so I take the baby to a nearby pediatrician for regular check-ups. However, when the baby is sick, I contact and go see Dr. Chen. Dr. Chen is good at diagnosing and at explains the differences between diseases. I only hope that he is more available and that I can take the baby to see him whenever necessary. read more

Really like Dr. Chen. Very friendly. Answers all questions thoroughly and gives great advice on nutrition and such. He isn't so great about signing or filling out forms you might need for daycare and school. Office could be cleaner. The communal toys and books don't look like they are cleaned often. read more

Been bringing my kids to this place since my daughter was born in 2006. We moved away and decided to continue coming here despite the distance we have to travel, from San Dimas. We do it because their services are second to none and each visit is always an enjoyable & informative one. My kids are healthy, the staff is amazing, what more could a parent ask for?? read more

Have always been satisfied with the medical care received from the group in the past. After my experience with front office this morning will never visit this practice again. Made an appointment two days ago for my son to receive a flu mist immunization this morning. As instructed I called yesterday to confirm the office had received their vaccine supply. Was called this morning when I was walking out the door for the appointment and told "by the way your son hasn't been in for a physical this year so we can't give him an immunization. We only have a limited supply of the vaccine and we have other patients that need them......sorry try a pharmacy......" I guess only the families they really like get immunizations???? read more

This place has horrible front office customer service. They billed my insurance with the wrong visit date, then when my insurance didn't pay they tried billing me for their their mistake. They ALWAYS collect your share on the way in, they won't let you in unless you pay it, which I don't have a problem with, but then they billed me again through the mail for money I already paid so just to be done with it, I paid again, then they said I still hadn't paid and threaten to send me to collections over $25. Need less to say I've pulled my kids from this dishonest place. If you value your kids and your money I wouldn't go here. read more

We had originally requested another doctor from this medical group before our daughter was born, but Dr. Chen was the first doctor to see her when she arrived. Instantly, we fell in love with him. So, we changed the request and have been seeing him since. As busy as he is, he'll always makes the time to see our daughter during our "last minute" visits. He carefully explains everything and he follows up by calling himself. He is an awesome and caring doctor. read more

We see Dr. David Michelis, he is very friendly, knowledgable, and dedicated. His staff is professional and warm. They have 3 waiting rooms well, sick, and rash. This prevents you from taking a healthy baby to doctor and getting a sick baby. Also they have a nurse desk you can call with random questions and get a real live person to give you advice Dr Michelis has seen our child on Saturdays and Sunday's when needed. Even after hours as late as 6:30. We had a premi so the first couple weeks that stuff came up a lot. We have just been so impressed and grateful to have someone so committed to what they do, so good with kids, and so good with new nervous parents. read more

This is THE BEST pediatric office around. No matter what is going on they will always get me in for an appointment, even on a Monday at 4:45 to get an object out of my kid's nose. True story. We see Dr. Mendoza for our 4 and 2 yr old. She is sweet and both boys adore her! The staff is accomodating and makes a trip to the dr not so fearful! We never feel rushed with our time, and our questions are always answered promptly. The staff do their best to make sure all forms are in order, and we never had insurance issues that could not be handled by a quick phone call. I would highly recommend Harber Peds! read more

I've been bringing my 5 year old son to Dr Chen since he was born and could not be happier with this office. I love the location because you literally just pull right in and walk in the door. No stairs or elevators! I also love that they have a well room, sick room and a rash room so your kids aren't exposed to extra germs when you are visiting for a well check. The play area in the waiting area is awesome too with lots of fun toys and books. They even have an aquarium, which my kids all love. All of the doctors, nurses and front office staff are always friendly in this office, and they seem to regularly run on time. And if all of this weren't enough, they also give out little presents and stickers after appointments. All around I love this office and everyone who works here! We see Dr. Michelis and love him. We've seen him since birth- and he is absolutely great with our almost 2yr old son. We've had a "sick" visit w/Dr. Chen also and liked him a lot. We originally signed up with Dr. Mendoza who was equally wonderful- but since Dr. M was on duty when my son was born- we've just stuck with him. I was referred by a friend to Dr. Mendoza 6 years ago when we were having our daughter. Since then we have had our 3 yr old son also. Over the last 6 yrs we have seen almost every doctor there, and they are all wonderful. Dr. Mendoza is who we go to when we can and for all our well checks. She knows my kids and remembers us every time, and takes time to go over all my questions and concerns, and is so sweet and friendly. The nurses are always so kind and gentle, and my kids actually love it there. Our insurance had changed through my husbands work, and I had to go somewhere else for a 5 yr well check, and was horrified at the chaos that took place at the other office, there was nowhere to sit, a line for the front desk of 6 people deep, it was insane. When my daughter was at CHOC and released recently, we paid cash just to be able to do our follow up with Dr. Mendoza at Harbor Peds!!!! read more

Had a appointment today. Dr. Chen was one hour late. No one in the office let me know he was running late. When he did come out personally to the waiting room, he took the family that arrived after me with no explanation. I finally approached the office staff and explained I had another appointment I needed to get to and would need to reschedule. They were not cooperative in that and claimed they only had open spots months from now. Then they claimed they would still need to charge me for this missed visit. Which of course I had not missed as I was sitting in the lobby the entire time. To make It even more insulting the office staff asked several times what my actual other appointment was as if they didn't believe I had one or were just nosey. Regardless it's none of anyone's business. In conclusion, I would not come here. I would not see Dr Chen under any circumstances and I would not count on a polite or courteous situation. In today's age when pediatrics is a highly competitive field and parents have many choices. I'd dig deeper and go elsewhere. read more

I've been going to Harbor Pediatrics for at least 5 years after trying a handful of other highly-recommended pediatricians. It just doesn't get any better than this. Unlike the reviewer below, I've never had trouble with billing. The doctors are all top-notch. We typically go to Dr. Michelis, but have also gone to Dr. Lau and Dr. Mendoza. Every doctor is thorough and really takes the time to listen. The offices are always immaculate. One of the best things about this office is the nurse hotline during the week. It is always staffed by a knowledgeable, kind nurse. Can't tell you how many times I've called. So helpful. During flu season, they also have a flu shot/intranasal clinic and allows parents to come in, too! The best part though is knowing my kids are getting excellent medical care. read more

I just called with my son having over 102 fever and I got an appointment time for 4:30 when the front desk couldn't find any information I told them we have not been at this office before... I just want to make sure that my son doesn't have something serious... She went on hold and told me that they are not the back up office of his normal pediatrician who is closed and I should seek help at urgent care...Thank you so much for your helplessness. We have been going to this pediactric office for 17yrs. As a matter of fact when my son was born one of the doctors who checked him out of the hospital was my husbands doctor, then he retired a month later. They have been better than the doctors that treat adults. Of course there have been bumps in the road here and there. But the communication has been open and as long as my records that I keep are accurate and I can provide it to them, they have been more than helpful in correcting the problem. I am realistic to understand that no one is perfect, especially doctors or those that work for them. I am involved in the whole process from beginning to end. The staff has been nothing but kind and the doctors have always done their job and been willing to listen to me. My kids have no complaints. Are there better out there, sure but they are far from the worst. Billing is outsourced, so I wouldn't put all the blame on the office staff. Thank you Harbor Pediactrics. read more
