Dr Kar is an incredible pediatrician. We've been seeing him for both of our kids since 2021 and I cannot say enough good things about him. He really takes his time with each of his patients and you can tell he genuinely cares about each and every family he sees. We opted into the concierge program and it is the best decision we have ever made. The ability to text Dr Kar when we have a medical concern after hours or on weekends is invaluable. It is worth every penny and has come in handy countless times. Our son had a life threatening illness in 2024 that multiple specialists overlooked, and Dr Kar is the only reason he was able to get admitted and into surgery. He was a critical voice for us at CHOC when we needed an advocate to push for treatment, coordinate care among specialists, and get prescriptions and home health services figured out. I genuinely do not know what would have happened had we not had Dr Kar on our side. No one ever wants to be in a situation where their child has a life threatening medical condition but if you find yourself there like we did, Dr Kar will be in your court 100%. read more

I should start that Dr. Kar reached out same day and he does genuinely care about his practice and patients. He's a great doctor and like any of us it's impossible to have everything under control. We have been going straight to urgent care the last few visits that my children needed medicine intervention. I scheduled an urgent care follow up with Dr. Kar since my last review. This review is mostly for his PA Jess! Dr. Kar has been our oldest son's pediatrician since he was born! But last year, our son got super sick right before we had our 2nd baby and the only appointment available short notice was with Dr. Kar's PA, Jess. I was hesitant but took the appointment and I'm SOOO glad we did because we just adore her and have had all of our appointments with her since! She has this warm charm that is just MAGIC with the kids of all ages. My 4 yr old thinks it's a play date whenever we go to see her. After we had our second baby, we decided to keep seeing her whenever either of the boys go in. As a parent, I absolutely love that she is willing to answer any questions we have about vaccinations, procedures, and milestones. It makes me feel heard as a parent and like she is really working WITH me to provide the best care for our kiddos. And that was the whole reason we loved Dr. Kar when we first found him. I went there for my kid's 4-year-old check-up and I was a bit nervous because vaccines were due and my little one hates his ears to be checked or even stand on a weight scale. However, Irma helped us make everything go smoothly. She offered alternatives/breaks when my kid was scared to do something. She was calm even when he wasn't. She took the parents' feedback when we offered alternatives to get the testing done. I am extremely disappointed with the care my son received at this pediatric practice. After choosing to delay some of his vaccines, we were informed that the doctor would no longer treat him. Even though my son is currently sick and has not improved after his last visit, the office refused to see him again solely because he is not fully vaccinated. To make matters worse, the practice has a policy that charges families $600 if they want to remain patients while following a delayed vaccine schedule. This fee seems excessive and unethical, especially when families are already facing difficult medical decisions and trying to do what they believe is best for their children. While I understand that pediatricians are increasingly strict about vaccine schedules due to public health concerns and the risks to other patients, dismissing a sick child from care feels wrong and goes against the fundamental duty of a physician to treat children in need. The American Academy of Pediatrics does allow dismissal of families who refuse vaccines, but only as a last resort and after efforts to educate and communicate with parents. In our case, it felt like the practice was more interested in enforcing rigid policies and collecting extra fees than in providing compassionate care. I would not recommend this practice to families who have questions or concerns about vaccines, as you may find yourself without a pediatrician when you need one most. Edit: in response to your reply, Dr. Kar, you are being misleading because when we first registered, there was NO vaccine policy and we also discussed being on a delayed schedule with you which you said " would be OK as long as the baby would get vaccines before the age of two if that was not what our plans then we would not be a fit" and then later your vaccine policy was implemented. We advised in the very first visit that we were interested in doing a delayed Schedule. My child is under one year old. After that every visit it was pushing vaccines and your "policy". It's OK to follow a delayed vaccine schedule If you pay an excessive fee though right ??? Lol what a joke. There's only one good thing about your practice - Jessica. read more

This review is specifically to call out the incredible care and kindness from Dr. Jess and Lina. My girls and I LOVE these ladies! Lina is literally the biggest ray of sunshine despite balancing multiple rooms and tasks. But what impresses me the most is I never feel like she is actually rushing when we see her. She takes time with my girls, asks about how they are doing outside of our visit (like when my oldest started bjj), and she has ALWAYS supported whatever I've decided for care. I never feel judged or talked down to despite have very candid talks about certain healthcare decisions. She is a literal ninja though if you do vaccinate; my kids barely know what is going on by the time she's finished. She's amazing. And Dr. Jess is literally the embodiment of what I would've wanted in a doctor as a kid; she is SO funny, kind, incredibly intelligent, playful, and just the vibe. I wish *MY* GP was like Dr. Jess! My girls love being able to see her (and so do I!) and I swear, we always end up leaving happier than when we came in. She always walks through care in a step by step manner, but in a way that makes me feel empowered and heard. She also talks to my kids and not just about them to me (which scores major brownie points with me). We absolutely love these ladies and I hope they never leave because this is the type of care I want my kids to have always. I wish more people like these two wonderful ladies were in healthcare! I have been bringing my son to Dr. Kar and Irma since he was born! Dr. Kar has been helpful in getting my son situated with early interventions and evaluations. Irma has been helpful with medical authorizations and paperwork needed for my son's therapies and schooling. Most recently we went in for my son's 4 year checkup. I knew my son would be a lot more sensitive with his ear checkup, vision and hearing test, and weight, height and blood pressure. Irma was patient, encouraging, and was able to have my son complete his hearing test. Something that was not able to be done before with a hearing doctor! I am extremely satisfied with Irma's approach to have my son complete his yearly checkup. She was also very delicate and reassuring to my son when it was time for his vaccines. Dr. Kar's medical expertise has helped me get my son on a good developmental pace, while Irma's expertise in the office has always made it easier for me to get documents and authorizations. Look no further, Dr. Kar and his entire team are AMAZING! I met Dr. Kar at a maternity orientation offered by Hoag about 6 years ago. I was in the process of interviewing pediatricians since I was about to have my first baby, and then along came Dr. Kar. He patiently answered dozens of rapid-fire questions from the nervous participants, stayed after the program to answer more questions, and even continued answering questions when my mom & I ran into him in the elevator on the way to his car. Sorry about that, Doc! ;) He was so kind, patient, and explanatory when he came to the hospital to visit after the birth of my first son and during our first clumsy visits to his office with our newborn. Dr. Kar has always made us feel welcome and important and ALWAYS takes time to make sure we've covered everything and leave with all of our questions answered. I realize doctors are very busy, and I know he's no exception, but I have never felt rushed or like I was inconveniencing him with my laundry list of questions and concerns. I wish Dr. Kar could be MY doctor! I especially love that Dr. Kar, as well as his staff (we love you, Irma!) take the time to check in with us personally, make genuine conversation, and seem to truly care about me and my family. I know I can ask him anything and he will never judge or brush me off and will always offer an honest, evidence-based answer. My boys love going to his office because Dr. Kar and his staff make it so happy, relaxing, and enjoyable (and the stickers and healthy lollipops sure don't hurt.) Both office locations are not only thoughtfully decorated with beautiful hand-painted murals, but they are spotless, immaculately clean, and even offer a private breastfeeding room. Oh, and there is ample free parking at both locations. To clarify what one very grumpy reviewer inaccurately stated, the patient portal is actually fully functional and I utilize it all the time. I have gone onto the portal countless times to print vaccine records for daycare and preschool, and they are always up to date and accurate. I won't bother addressing her other invalid complaints, because I don't waste time rebutting false, anger-based accusations. Anyway, back to the good stuff :) Any time I call his office, I can actually speak to a REAL HUMAN! Dr. Kar and his staff are extremely responsive, no matter what the issue. I have had a handful of very frustrating issues with our insurance, and Dr. Kar has personally helped me resolve each problem, no matter how ridiculous or time-consuming... and let me tell you, they were definitely ridiculous and time-consuming. He understands how the system works (and, unfortunately, how it doesn't work) and time and time again has worked with me to get things resolved. Bottom line: Kar's Pediatrics is the best. I trust him and every member of his staff. It's like having an office full of your closest friends that also happen to be really, really smart. As we all know all too well, being a parent can be scary. There are literally endless things to worry about, research, monitor and consider. We were lucky enough to have met Dr Kar during orientation at Hoag. Immediately we knew we wanted him as our pediatrician because of how he explained his own practices and what we as new parents should expect from a pediatrician. He is pro-vaccine and provides copious information on each vaccine as well as a friendly vaccine schedule so you feel informed as a parent. He is evidence-based and will created treatment plans and decisions based on peer-reviewed research as well as experience. Though he has the knowledge, he makes sure to include you by providing options as well as offering advice with his own experience as a father. We experienced all of this when our 3 day old baby went for a check up and had jaundice, dehydration and significant weight loss. Dr Kar acted quickly and provided a plan of action. Though he was straight forward he was also very empathetic and took the time to make sure we felt okay as we head over to the hospital to admit our baby. He and his staff were there every step of the way to make sure we were admitted and taken care of in the hospital by calling and coordinating with CHOC directly. They went above and beyond during a time where we were exhausted and feeling lost. Because of Dr Kar's quick acting we were discharged quickly and our baby made a fast turn around. Now she is thriving and we look forward to every visit with Dr Kar and his incredibly sweet staff. I'll admit, I'm a little jealous that my baby gets such an attentive team and we wish our own doctors would be as informative and passionate as Dr Kar's team is. The team goes above and beyond and will separate the sick and well families during visits. They are accessible all the time and never make you feel silly for all of those embarrassing new parent moments you may have. I've never had to wait very long and the rooms are comfortable enough if there is a short wait. Dr. Kar is busy but you wouldnt know it from his demeanor. He walks into the room sits down asks questions, answers questions, then asks if we have anymore questions. He does it all. I'm really happy I found Dr. Kar! I've been bringing my daughter to see him for almost 9 months (since she was born) and we both have always had a very positive experience with him. He's very knowledgeable and professional - anytime I've had questions or concerns, he's been more than happy to answer them and always gives great advice. He's also kind, caring and very personable. And his staff, Haley and Irma, are honestly the sweetest and friendliest medical staff I've ever experienced in any doctor's office. I would not recommend this practice at all. Dr. Kar is not warm at all. He is very black and white with minimal sincerity. His wellness exams are extremely brief and he barely examines your child and little to know interaction with your baby. With my son he just checked his breathing and ears. He is not informative at all and only answers your questions. He also is not out as he said "to be friends with the parents", so, being cold is how he operates. On to his medical assistant Irma she is just rude and gave attitude on one of my last calls because she knew I was no longer going to see Dr. Kar. Also, they have a patient portal they do not utilize. I was trying to get my sons vaccines and absolutely nothing was in there as they claim they upload all records. I will say the only pleasant person in that practice is Bryan the PA. He is grade A when interacting with him. On a positive note I went to Total Pediatrics in Costa Mesa and they are amazing Dr. Irvani was so detailed from checking his privates parts to the shape of his head, which Dr Kar did not do at all. Do not waste time with this practice and go to Total Pediatrics!!! To your response Dr. Kar: 1st off with regards to mask policy not at any point did you or your staff offer a mask upon my arrival and in fact on my first visit you told me you did not care if I wore a mask or not. My advise don't come up with excuses for your lack of/ poor service. As for your staff I had little to no interaction with them. Again, take responsibility for your staffs lack of training. Choosing Dr. Kar for our most precious person has proven to be a great decision. He is knowledgeable and up to date on best practices. He is available for after-hour questions, and his office staff are genuinely warm, caring, and respectful -- which is super important to me. Remember when we were all younger and we'd go to the doctor and they actually knew your name and cared about you? This is the place to go if you're looking for that. You aren't just a number here, you feel like family. I stopped bringing my kids to their last pediatrician just because they were so impersonal. They didn't even call us during or after any of my daughter's hospital stays, they were hard to get a hold of, and the wait was horrible, so finding a great pediatrician was really important to me. Dr. Kar truly does care about his patients and really listens to our concerns. In the last couple years it seemed like a LOT of people stopped caring about their work. I'm a hard person to please these days, but I like to give credit where credit is due. Dr. Kar and his team definitely deserve the credit. I've never waited for more then a few minutes. He actually will sometimes just come out to the car if the situation allows. You really can't ask for more. I drive almost 40 minutes to see him and I'm more than happy to. He's professional, caring, easy to talk to, and has been great with my kids. I would absolutely use him as my GP if I could. read more

Ok, I really don't even know where to start with this because there is way to much to say and honestly I don't even have the time to put everything down. I was referred to Dr Kar by another doctor when I was expecting my first. I did meet him prior to my first child's arrival. I liked the fact that it was his own practice their wasn't multiple doctors and he was easy to reach after hours. Honestly this is the only positive thing I can say about his practice, and why i give it 2stars. They are never on time, incredibly disorganized. Always mess up on the scheduling. I highly recommend never having a morning appointment Dr Kar is never ever on time in the mornings, by this i mean he isn't even in the office. I'm not even sure why they book appointments when he can't show up on time. there is always an excuse he was at hospital and baby is in Nicu, honestly I don't even buy it, I think he leaves his house late. It's usually about 45 min to 1 hr late wait time in the morning. In the afternoon expect to wait a minimum of 15-30 min or longer. There is never any consistency in what he says, he also under no circumstances remember anything he said to you from a prior appointment. Which I don't necessarily expect him to remember off the top of his head but this is why doctors have charts and make notes, but he never even bothers looking at them. He constantly contradicts himself and what he says from the time before to your next visit will be completely different most of the time. I think he has misdiagnosed my kids more than 5 times! I've seriously at this point have lost count, one minute it's Roseola the next it's an ear infection to the next it can be reaction to the antibiotics.. even when he prescribes antibiotic for an ear infection it also isn't consistent sometimes the same antibiotic only needs to be used for 7 days the next 10days also the amount varies and then he tries to convince you that you made mistake and he would never ever prescribe that many days etc. Any type of concerns you may have or noticing anything about your child, he pretty much blows it off and always one of his sons has the same problem. Example, my eldest was having constipation issues it started probably around 8 months and every time I would bring this up, and as time was going on it kept getting worse it was at a point where her entire body would turn tomato red and her body was shaking from the pain and she would be crying/screaming from the pain. His solution was to give her miralax everyday and that's what he gives to his son nothing is wrong with it and that we aren't giving her enough water. I repeatedly explained she drinks crazy amount of water and this isn't normal and that she will go days without going poop. He basically blamed it on lack of water. He blew it off, and tried to reassure that his son is the same and some kids are just like this. I ended up taking her to another pediatrician who finally fixed this horrible issue, and we never had to give her miralax or any type of medicine. She was drinking more than sufficient Amount of water actually she consumes more than enough. With my second child I was noticing he could not latch onto a pacifier or any type of bottle, he would for about a minute and then let go I became convinced he was tongue tied also his tongue would have formula residue and was constantly white. When I mentioned I think he is tongue or lip tied he assured me it's impossible and that the milk residue was from bad formula and told me he just doesn't have a strong latch and the fact he is gaining weight there is nothing to worry about. Also said one his sons was the same way, I ended up taking him to pediatric chiro who informed me that he is tongue/lip/cheek tied and the white residue isn't from bad milk/formula it's because the tongue is restricted therefore the tongue can't do it's natural process of cleaning. I ended up taking him to another pediatrician to released his tongue/lip/cheek ties. I can probably go on for days about all other types of things that have gone on. Keep in mind I've only been with dr Kar for 2yrs, can imagine if it was more than this length of time how many other stories I'll have. The staff and doctor are all younger and are all friendly and approachable but at this point so many things have gone on that it's getting to the point that it's ridiculous and inexcusable. read more

As a new mom, I will always remember being very overwhelmed at my first appt. with my newborn, and Irma calmed my fussy baby right away and put me at ease. From then until now with an almost 2 year-old, we have had nothing but amazing care from all members of Dr. Kar's team. Dr. Kar is attentive, patient, knowledgeable and caring. He prioritizes patient safety, best practices, and delivers true family-centered care. Highly recommend. The office is really nice. The bathroom is nicely remodeled and the pictures on the walls are a nice touch. They have a tiny nursing nook which is perfect and well accommodated. Its a tidy spot. The rooms overlook the coast. This is the place to get your kids caught up on their vaccines, they are very flexible with your personal scheduling which is great. My son has been a patient of Dr Kar for 18 months ( since birth ) so this review is long overdue. Dr Kar is very thorough and takes his time in all of our appointments making sure every question I have is addressed and that my son is in good health. He's very informative and makes sure to explain everything to me. He also genuinely cares about his patients. Whenever we go in it's always been a pleasant experience. When my son gets sick Dr Kar always makes time for us to stop in so he can check him out. He's also answered our calls out of office hours and even weekends in emergency situations. As a first time parent I can't stress how important it is to have a good Dr for your infant. You will be seeing the Dr regularly in the first year so having someone you can rely on, is good at what they do and that you also get along with is important. Also as a first time parent you are learning a lot as you go so having a reassuring informative Dr is helpful. The office itself is very cute and clean. The front desk, medical assistants and all staff are so nice and truly genuine. ( Haley and Urma) Also if your ever concerned or have a sick child over the weekend or after office hours Dr car makes himself available to his patients so you can call him with your concern. Truly dedicated and devoted to what he does. Overall I'm so happy with Dr Kar. And his clinic, he goes above and beyond. I would highly recommended him!!! read more

Doctor Kar is fantastic! Smart, easy to talk to, spends time with us and each of our 3 kids and never seems rushed; unlike most doctors these days. We switched over to Doctor Kar last year and are so glad we did, with three boys we need to get in often and they always fit us in, no matter what. The staff is incredible too. We have been to multiple different pediatricians (due to moves) and Dr Kar is by far our favorite pediatrician of all. He, along with his staff, make you feel like you are their only patient - they remember everything about you when you call or walk in the office, are so friendly and genuine, and spent a good amount of time with you to be thorough without making you wait long to be seen by Dr Kar. Dr Kar has checked my kids in the parking lot to avoid making me get them out of the car when it's for a quick check, and even has called me to check on my kids after ER visits. He's quick to respond to emails (even on the weekend) and it truly feels like my kids have a concierge doctor. We are so grateful we found him! read more

Dr Kar is a blessing to our family!! Our daughter was born early at Hoag and it was such a scary time when she was finally released from the hospital. But Dr Kar came to visit us at Hoag the day before she was released and made us feel like we could get through the upcoming days at home as new parents with a premie. Since then he has answered my calls on the weekends and given us such amazing confidence and guidance. He really cares about families as a whole and i don't think that exists anymore. read more
