I am shocked at the good reviews on here. This doctor was a nightmare. Literally tried to intimidate us into getting one vaccine we didn't want - saying things like, you don't trust my medical opinion? It's the only vaccine we didn't get and it wasn't necessary. One time I called his office to ask a question. They thought they put me on hold and started making fun of me for asking how much caffeine I can have while nursing. MOST IMPORTANTLY he missed a recommendation to get a specific medical test at 2 months of age from his doctors who delivered him due to an issue he had at birth. He said the recommendation was at one year. I found out he was wrong months later. Lastly his office is sooooo depressing. His ancient metal scales made my baby roll and hit his head. All this doctor did was stress vaccines on us. Otherwise he was useless and SO so rude. I dreaded my baby's appointments because I'd have to see this guy. I'm so happy we left. read more

I was recommended Dr. Michael Yu by my OBGYN and I'm so glad I took a chance on him. I had never met or spoke with Dr. Yu nor his office before I delivered as I had an emergency c-section but when Dr. Yu came the following day to assess my son, I immediately felt comfortable. He has wonderful bedside manner, came early both days to look at my baby, and answered a lot of my questions. My son is 2 months now and over the last 2 months, I have contacted Dr. Yu with random questions and he would call me or answer my emails within 24 hours. Made me feel at ease with a lot of decision makings. I highly recommend him and his office. Only advice! Please change your door! Lol. His office has a heavy duty door that slams loud every time someone leaves and they aren't holding the door before it shuts. Dr. Michael Yu was recommended to us by our OBGYN and Hoag hospital after our son's delivery. He is super friendly and very good with babies and he did a great job for my son's circumcision, everything healed well and super fast. He also did my son's first check up and the wait time was really short compared to most pediatricians. We've been sending our offspring here since before they were born. Literally. Dr. Mike has always been there at the ready to take care of sickness, checkups, vaccinations, and you and your offspring will be in and out in a half hour or less. Also he and his office have always quickly filled out (and emailed or faxed back) forms for camp and overseas travel. The longest I waited was 20 minutes when the first born was attended to on short notice because of a stomach flu. (I was in the process of taking the firstborn to pre-school, but upon the first sounds and smells of vomiting I did a U-turn and called from the car....) Lastly he is a doc with a personality who obviously likes what he's doing. My wife says she wished she had a doc like that. And he's a Dodger fan. read more

To address Angelo C.'s review, people who choose not to vaccinate their children put other children around them (who are too young to be vaccinated yet) at risk. I appreciate Dr. Yu's stance on vaccinations because by rejecting Angelo C. and his child as a patient, I know that my baby is less at risk of contracting (by being in the same waiting room) a completely avoidable illness. Dr. Clayton, who used to be one of the best OBGYNs in Orange County but is not longer practicing, recommended Dr. Yu. I understand why. read more

He is always informative, reassuring and just always genuinely cares (which is amazing for a first time mom) I highly recommend him and only have great things to say about him plus my kids love him! Dr. Mike and his dad are the Best! My kids are now 2 and 4 years old and we switched to their practice shortly after our youngest was born. We switched pediatricians for more personalized service. Our old doctor was a large practice and I feel you don't get the individual care and you feel like a number. Here with Dr. Mike he is really getting to know my kids. Dr. Mike is thorough at his job and looks at every detail. He also takes per cautions, but I don't feel like he over medicates and prescribes medicine for everything. He is available and calls back, even for those late night calls. Staff is friendly. Makes you feel like he listens to what you have to say and are concerned about. Office visits are relatively quick. Scheduling appointments is easy. We live in Long Beach and it completely worth the drive! read more

Dr. Yu is amazing. Our kids look forward to coming to his office and they never usually like to go to any doctors offices. He's such a happy person and you can tell he loves what he does for a living. It's very efficient at the office. There's no huge long wait to the point where the kids want out. We get there and have been seen on time every appointment. Emergency appointments are really easy to make too. Dr. Yu's dad is also a pediatrician in the same office. Dr. Yu has been the pediatrician to both of our children since their birth. He is absolutely phenomenal. He is highly intelligent, easy to talk to, and great with children. He takes his time to answer your questions and doesn't rush. He truly cares about the well being of our children. The office is very accommodating and are able to get you in ASAP if your kid is sick. Dr.Mike is great with kids and genuinely cares about his patients. If you have an after hours question or concern, he calls you back within the hour, no matter the time. I really appreciate that quality in a doctor! In response to Angelo C's review, I believe Dr. Mike did the most responsible thing he could have done when put in that position. If your personal philosophy does not mesh with a doctor's practices, it is better for everyone if you sought care with a doctor who thinks more along the same lines as you. read more

My twins have been going to Dr. Yu since they were born and they are now 3. We love Dr. Mike Yu. He's so great with the kids and families. The office is quick to get in and out. Michael Yu is an amazing doctor for our amazing baby girl Eden. He is very personable and has a really good attitude. Every time he walks through the door he's just a burst of positive energy. He always answers all my wife and I's questions and makes us feel at ease. My wife really likes the fact that he spends time with us and always gives us good advice when we ask. We just moved to the area from Arizona where my 8 year old had the same pediatrician since literally birth. It was a blessing to find Dr. Yu. He is patient and friendly with both children and parents. I never feel rushed when we visit. He has a very balanced approach, providing facts, and analogies to help you better understand in layman's terms what is going on. The office staff is very friendly and helpful. His office hours can be limited some days to only morning appointments, but I've always been able to see him when needed. He does have Saturday sick appointments as well. read more

A phenomenal physician who truly cares about his patients (and their parents), Dr. Mike always comes in to see the kids with a smile and takes the time to address their every concern, big or small. Dr. Mike Yu is the best! My boys have been going there since they were born and they are now 6 and 3. He takes his time to explain all our questions. This review is not against the care but against the billing office. Dr. Michael Yu saw my daughter in the hospital after she was born and then for her first follow up visit. Then I get a bill in the mail for the whole thing. All this because they do not accept my insurance. How is that my fault, I am at an in network hospital. My wife is in a vulnerable state and you just come in and see the baby for 5 minutes and then later throw a bill at us? If I knew I would have had to pay cash I would have requested a different doctor. read more

We love Dr. Yu! Our baby is nearly a year old and has had all his vaccinations without a problem. I feel so comforted that Dr. Yu will not take patients who will not vaccinate. I won't judge someone's decisions about how to deal with their own children, but I would never allow my child near those unvaccinated little ones. I found Dr. Yu through my sister in law who takes my nephew to him. I am sad to only stay with Dr. Yu for 6months while my husband is deployed. I find his sometimes brutal honesty refreshing and his confidence in what he believes in to be helpful. As a first time mom I was so unsure with all the information out there and the fact he is strong in his convictions is helpful. He is great with my daughter and I'm able to get an appointment right away if something is wrong. I would recommend Dr. Yu to any parent. read more

My friend took her daughter to Dr. Mike and so does my sister-in-law. The first time I met Dr. Mike was after my niece was born and I was pregnant with my son. I mentioned to him that my friend went to him and he asked me who. I couldn't think of the little girl's name so I gave him my friend's name. When he said the girl's name, I was in shock and I knew right then that he was the right doctor to go to. My friend had said that if he saw the kids outside of the office, he would know them by name. I kept thinking yeah, right. He proved me wrong that night and I knew he was the right doctor for my son and my future kids. We brought in my newborn daughter to see him and he did a double take at us and said "difdjd (not using my son's name) you've shrunk" jokingly. my son loves going to see Dr. Mike and even though my daughter doesn't want to get shots, she's warming up to him. He has to be the busiest pediatrician ever...not only has he taken over for his father, but his patient number keeps growing. He's very smart and charismatic. He definitely has a love for these kids, so for the next 15 1/2 years, we will continue seeing him! In regards to Angelo's post, I am also happy that he did the right thing. It may be a parent's decision to not vaccinate their child, but if they want to be out in public with other people and kids, it's the doctor's responsibility to protect his patients! We were referred to Dr. Mike Yu by our OBGYN and he's seen our child who is now five since he was an infant. I do like Dr. Mike Yu and thought he provided good care but I want to say that I did start to question his level of care after doctors within our own family diagnosed our son with what I consider serious issues he was born with that I feel Dr. Yu should have found during the five years of care for my son but didn't. We have multiple doctors within our family and I'm not the type to seek out health care advice from doctors in the family when we have our own doctors we go to for check-ups. It just so happened that two pediatricians and an internal medicine doctor in our family noticed my son had 1) a submucousal cleft palate at the age of 3 (which we learned could have been the cause of his speech delay although it wasn't) and 2) an inguinal hernia at the age of 4 not more than four weeks after a regular check-up at Dr. Yu's office with the elder Dr. Yu who had checked my son's groin area at the visit. Both of these conditions are something my son was born with, and based on my conversation with the doctors in my family, the cleft palate should have been discovered by the pediatrician as an infant before we left the hospital. With regards to the hernia, I've learned that it may not always be visible so maybe it was chance that the doctors in our family noticed it (one of which said it was so obvious to see without a ultrasound when he took our son together with his son to the bathroom), but it still made me upset to know that my son's groin area was just looked at during a check-up and it wasn't noticed and had never been noticed by the doctors in this office. (My husband and I scheduled surgery for my son immediately after learning what could happen if a hernia is left untreated.) I see a lot of good reviews for Dr. Mike Yu here which is great because I like him too but I wanted to add my experience here if it helps anyone - especially if they don't have the benefit of having doctors in the family giving their kids extra attention. (For us, we also got freaked out when we saw the elder Dr. Yu's hands shaking/unsteady when he was giving our son his shots so our preference is to request Dr. Mike Yu only when we remember.) read more

My husband and I highly recommend Dr. Yu! We originally had another Pediatrician that was referred by my Obgyn. As first time parents, our original Pediatrician was a little paranoid for us. When I gave birth to my son at Hoag Hospital, we had asked a few nurses who they would recommend and they all mentioned Dr. Yu. Dr Yu is a good doctor, my husband and I initially met him when I was pregnant. He's been great to my daughter throughout her visits but I personally don't appreciate the extra comments or lectures he makes regarding how I parent my child when he himself is not a parent. For example, if I choose to feed my child organic formula rather than regular that's my choice not someone else. Lecturing me on how it's all a marketing scheme or telling me there is no scientific proof of it being better or more healthy or more natural than regular food is not helpful only cause you as a doctor disagree with my decisions outside of medicine. That is my parental choice not a medical one. I simply stated I prefer to feed my child organic formula, period. Secondly, me sharing concerns about letting my child cry it out while she goes to sleep or describing any other parental struggles, and Dr Yu asking me who is parent and who is child is not empathetic nor understanding of parenting. Describing to me why I should feed my daughter breastmilk over formula (cause I can't produce enough breastmilk) and comparing it to whether I'd drink second best wine vs best wine is not helpful either in deciding whether to supplement or not and needing reassurance medically that formula is still ok. In fact all of what I've described here I consider to be condescending and very unfounded in terms of judgement. As a doctor, you advise on options and medical care hopefully with no judgement. I'm grateful that Dr Yu feels more comfortable with me to engage in expressing his true opinions, yet he is my daughter's pediatrician not parent and the extra commentary or judgement is not appreciated. I'm considering another pediatrician because although Dr Yu is good as a pediatrician, I as a parent don't look forward to taking my child to see him to receive another earful on my style of parenting or lackthereof. read more
