I scheduled an appointment at Exer Urgent Care for a pre-op clearance and was told over the phone that the cost would be around $200. When I arrived, I was informed the visit would actually cost nearly $400 once labs were included. The front desk staff did not seem knowledgeable about copays versus cash payments, which was frustrating. When I was seen by the doctor, he was rude and condescending, not friendly, and not helpful in answering my questions. While he did complete and approve my pre-op clearance, the overall interaction was very unpleasant. A week later, my surgeon's office contacted Exer because they still had not received my paperwork. I was then called by Exer and informed that they had lost all of my pre-op paperwork and asked if I could come back in to complete everything again. Because my surgery was scheduled within two weeks, I returned that same day. When I arrived to redo the paperwork, no one was at the front desk. The doctor was sitting in the office behind the desk. I asked if I could speak with Jeff, who had called me, and the doctor responded in a very rude and condescending tone, telling me to sit down and wait because Jeff was with a patient. Overall, the customer service at this location was extremely poor and unprofessional. Patients come to urgent care when they are unwell, often in pain, and paying a significant amount of money. They deserve to be treated with respect, dignity, and basic kindness. I do not feel the staff is adequately trained in patient communication, and I would not recommend this location until their customer service improves. Dr. Russell Alterman and PA-C Katherine Berwald will disingenuously listen to your symptoms, pain, and limitations and leave you feeling like what you are experiencing is a figment of your imagination. The calloused nature of these doctor's will cause more stress to an already stressful situation. For your own peace of mind consider being seen somewhere else. I had to come here in an emergency for my first experience with stitches due to a nasty fall. The doctor gave me so much Novocaine to make me comfortable and kept making jokes. I came back for my tetanus shot after confirming I hadn't had one, and they told me my doctor could call it into the pharmacy next time... they didn't care about making money off of the visit. Honestly, this has been one of the worst and useless urgent care's visits I have made. I waited approximately 2-3 hours to be seen, just to be told "I actually don't know what it is" by the doctor. After consulting another doctor, the condition was immediately diagnosed as something any general practitioner should have been able to recognize or be familiar with. If there were an easier way to upgrade the EHS system so that a returning patient wouldn't need to reload their ID and insurance card everytime they check in that would be helpful. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I went in Tuesday very sick and was given the diagnosis of an upper respiratory infection and given amoxicillin. I waited 3 days and nothing got better. I went to a different urgent care and was diagnosed with bronchitis. Gross negligence from Exer urgent care. First red flag is they use ai to diagnose you, I should've known from that. Never go here. I went to the Costa Mesa clinic on Friday, 1/16 for a painful left knee injury hoping to have x-rays taken and to have my knee examined. I was told that x-ray was unavailable and was referred to the clinic in Irvine. The front desk employee said it was ten minutes away. The Irvine clinic is out near UCI and it took over half an hour to get there. When I arrived to check in I was told by a rather uncaring, unconcerned employee that their x-ray equipment was "turned off". I was then referred to the clinic in Anaheim!!! Neither of the two clinics I went to bothered to call to determine if the x-ray equipment was even available! Is this what Exer Urgent Care calls help?!?!? This is BS! I will NEVER go to this company's clinics again. Shame on them. Oh. They might want to hire front desk employees who actually give a shit. read more

This is a great urgent care facility. They are caring and responsible. You are seen promptly and any services you need such as x-rays or other testing they have there is always done in a timely manner and carefully and you usually get the results quickly and are able to review them with the doctor during your same appointment. Went in for the first time on a Sunday afternoon in November sick with what I was pretty sure was bronchitis. No other patients waiting - how did I get so lucky? Easy check-in on the kiosk, before switching over to "paperwork" on my phone, which was simple. Before I could finish that, which was just minutes, a nurse called me to put me in a room. The dr. came in quickly, checked my nose, ears, lungs - yep, bronchitis. I then went to my pharmacy and the Z-pack and couch syrup were waiting for me. They are in net work for my insurance. First time I went, my co pay was $50. The front desk guy said "we have to charge you another $80 because you haven't met your deductible." This was before I was even seen. I called my insurance and they said it was false. After I called Exer to complain, they refunded the $80. Went back in December for a strep throat test, I got a bill for "medical services" for $695. I was responsible for $365 out of pocket. WTF??!! This is malpractice. read more

I have used Exer twice and have been pleased with my experiences. The check in process was quick, the service was friendly and professional. The physician assistant was thorough and ordered a chest xray on the spot. My second visit (six months later) was for cough, congestion, concern of possible pneumonia. The PA suggested a nasal swab instead of a cray out of concern of exposing me to more radiation. This was surprising and appreciated. I would recommend Exer if you need medical help. read more

I have to say that I really did not have a good experience here. I have had good experiences in the past, but this was not one of them. About 12 days ago I went in for a recommendation regarding physical therapy. I had already seen a physical therapist for a consultation, and they advised me that my PPO required a visit to a doctor or an urgent care. The provider was professional and helpful. He gave me a couple of recommendations. I was going out of town, so I knew it was going to take time before my first appointment. I got back into town last night, and tried to make a PT appointment today. However, I discovered that I didn't have the recommendations the provider had given me 12 days ago. I didn't think this would be an issue, so I called exer urgent care to see if they could email them to me. The person I spoke to on the phone said he couldn't find the recommendations, which blew me away. I should be very basic protocol for things like that to be stored. The guy on the phone seemed to deflect responsibility, blaming the practitioner for not uploading them. He didn't seem to be very good at being on the phone. I will admit I was angry, and not pleasant, but to be frank I had a right to be. The guy kept saying I had not reason to come to an urgent care because I had a PPO, despite the fact that I had been sent over by the PT group I had already had a consultation with. I don't know the protocol with all of this, it is not my job to know, but has attitude, given that I had been recommended to go to the urgent care by the PT group, was pretty lousy. It should be basic protocol for recommendations (or whatever the guy wrote for me actually was) to be uploaded and kept. If such a mistake is made, that is an issue with the organization. The guy on the phone had a very bad attitude and took NO responsibility whatsoever for the organizational failure. That does not speak well of how the place is run. There is no excuse for not having this information available, and when something like this happens the organization needs to take responsibility for making sure I get the information I need. It should be basic protocol for such information to be uploaded. There is no excuse for it not to be available. It is entirely possible that it was a mistake by the practitioner, I have no way of knowing, but I am not happy with how they have handled this. Then, when getting my stitches removed, they said there was no charge, but then ended up billing me $273. Luckily that amount was waived. That was in addition to the $694. When attempting to contact the manager of Costa Mesa and Irvine offices, Carolyn Orendain, she did not answer phone calls or email. The billing department was of no help to me. Very clean, new and elegant (I know - weird descriptive word to use) facility! I got lucky and no one else was there so I didn't have to wait long. Intake / New Patient form is one page and straight forward, doesn't ask a million questions about your ancestor's medical history lol. Front desk staff was nice, nurse practitioner and doctor were all very friendly! Made a scary situation as comfortable as possible. This will be my go-to urgent care. This is a new when I call urgent care, there are so many of them in this area and lots of them have come and gone and changed hands and change names but this one I have to tell you is pretty great. My wife visited this new location right after they opened and was very pleased with how her visit went and then I ended up having to go and even though I will admit my visit kind of started off rough because the entire front staff called in sick on this particular day the back end staff including the doctors did everything they could to get everyone checked in. I arrive right at 9 AM when they opened along with two or three other people and unfortunately we were forced to check in via zoom with an employee at a different office. Let's just say for the record things did not go as planned and everything took five times longer than it should've, however, the doctors and the nurses made up for the inconvenience once we got checked in and assigned to a room. The doctor seems like you really knew his stuff, he was down to earth and wasn't a total nerd like some doctors. He did drive a Tesla, just kidding Doctor, I won't hold that against you. I truly enjoyed I visit and I thought that the staff was pretty cool even though they had some extra challenges on the day I arrived. If you live in the Newport - Mesa area I highly recommend this new Urgent Care. The location is very convenient, right next doors to staples near Sprouts and Rite Aid in 17th street. They open at 9:00 AM and even with the check in hiccup I was still in and out way faster then the ER! read more

Clean facility. The front desk rep was super friendly and kind in a moment where I was really worried about my 3 year old who was wheezing and having some trouble breathing. Dominique took such good care of him in the room. He was so gentle when taking a sample for RSV, Covid and flu. He gave him a breathing treatment and was so playful and went along with the imaginative things my son was saying. Dr. Roboubo was also such a nice doctor. He was great with my son. He was gentle in checking his ears, nose, throat and listening to his lungs. The whole process was fast, easy and painless. I came in for a sore throat and some other symptoms I wont share here. Very clean building and well kept, spacious building. The staff here are caring and thorough. The Dr. ran tests asked questions and was on top of making sure I got what I needed to get better. Even had the medical assistant bring me Tylenol and water while I waiting. Sent a perception over while I was still waiting as well for test results. One of the best urgent care experiences I have ever had. Not feeling rushed. Felt very cared for.
