They dont take the "Mastercard" logo cards there for ANY transaction. I have had to order my bank card FOUR TIMES and still have not had it sent to me correctly. Then to top it all of, For some reason this branch is extremely slow. There is an air of inconvenience when you walk in and forget the drive through! I could walk to Portland and back before they EVER thought of giving good FAST customer service. They have such tight "guidelines" on new accounts that it's a major surprise that anyone even tries to become a member here. Well with BECU right across the street and with several credit unions in their direct vicinity. It makes me wonder how they aren't one of the 4 banks a week that close down permanently. I do believe they might hit that categoey very soon with their poor quality customer service. read more

I have been with this credit union for 10 years and at first was happy with them until they allowed my check to bounce. I had written the check for the 5th of the month and they allowed the check to be cashed on the 3rd. When I asked them about it they stated I would need to address it with the other party, which I did. However I feel that I should not of been charged for thier mishandeling of my account. They would not credit back my account the nsf fee. I now see that I am a number and not a member. I am now shopping for a new credit union. read more

The ladies skipped over me not once, not twice but THREE times. I was making eye contact with her for over TEN minutes and she did not even acknowledge me. My baby was screaming in the back seat.. I only have a car loan through Harborstone credit union. I can't wait until it's paid off so I never have to deal with them again. Not super helpful, not communicative and won't let me make just a principal only payment when I am more than up to date on my payments! I've had nothing but problems with them. They told me I can only make a principal only payment on the day that I make a regular payment, then when I said ok let's go ahead and I'll make a regular payment and a large principal only payment. They just processed it as a larger payment and still took out interest on the part that was supposed to be principal only. When I call and speak with customer service they just reversed it and re did the exact same thing. I have never had such a problem trying to give a bank more money. Our last car loan was with another credit union and I never had problems making extra principal only payments. If you're looking for a car loan and want to pay off earlier than the term of the loan, I would look somewhere else. read more

I am NOT a member of the credit union, however I am a member at other credit unions in the shared branching network. This review is based on my experience using the branch to attempt a transaction from another credit union in the shared network at which I've used in the past other harborstone credit unions. On entering, there is a warm and welcoming office with nice colors, plants and art on the walls. It feels more upscale than some of the other locations. But that is where the feeling of "welcome-ness" ends. I was sitting in my car for about 20 minutes prior to open. I noticed they don't open as early as many credit unions May but I also realize I was not the only one waiting. 10 minutes before they opened I was waiting in my car and saw 5 people waiting by the door outside. I sat in watched because there was no rush, I couldn't get inside anyway so why not? I realized that there were several female employees walking around on the inside and they looked like they were dressed professionally. Once it was time for them to open up a couple other cars begin to pull up people got out and waited backed up out of the parking space left. The doors were unlocked around 4 or 5 minutes after the post office opening time. I didn't really mind that they weren't early or on time with unlocking the door, however for me I got frustrated and disappointed about the level of service I received. I walked in and was waiting for a round 7 or 8 minutes while others that were first got help. One of the ladies that helped me at the counter said how can I help you? I replied I need to make a deposit into my credit union account. After trying to look up my account number she asked me if the account was with harborstone credit union and I replied no but it is a shared branching credit union. For those who do not know what that is, it just means that a group of credit unions have agreed to service members of the other credit union in an effort to provide better service and expand membership. At this point in the transaction I was a little frustrated but it was taking so long, even though I wasn't necessarily in a hurry I still wanted to feel like I was being taken care of. I felt like I was getting glared at by one of the other customer service people behind the counter and when I looked over at her she stood up and walk over to assist the one that was currently helping me. In an abrasive and almost condescending way the person that walked over said to me, we don't do shared banking. I didn't know what that meant because other harborstone credit unions in the local area have assisted many times before without problem. So I told her, I don't really know what that means and she responded offensively, abrasively and with no compassion or customer service skills whatsoever, we can't help you here. For me it'd been a half an hour already, waiting for you to open late try to figure out why my account number wasn't working, in to get dirty looks an attitude from a young and abrasive employee was not what I hoped for. The names of the people are not important, because the manager was sitting in a sort of central area by the lobby - it was something that could have easily been handled, had it been done respectfully. Aside from the inconsistencies in that credit union, the main issue was service, member service . Just because I was not a member of harborstone credit union did not mean the conversation needed to lack respect. I asked why this harborstone credit union was not able to help me when other locations have time and time again. In an aggravated manner she replied "we're just too busy for that". My jaw dropped, I did not realize that existed, especially in today's economy. I suggested a resolution, by saying it might be a good idea to put a sign on the window or door letting others know you are not in the shared network. She rolled her eyes and replied well, that's not going to happen but I appreciate your suggestion. I turned around and made eye contact with the manager, or who could possibly be assistant manager and did not feel the need to share my concerns at that level. To me, customer service no matter where you work or what you do, matters. This is a situation that displays the service level at that location as a whole and I will be sure to never return. Furthermore, making sure to respectfully share my experience was more important. Hopefully, it improves over the following months. read more

I have been with Harborstone for probably 10-12 years, and they have been nothing but gracious to me as a customer. I had to close out my account today (nothing caused by them), and I was expecting them to be rude, as I've heard most banks are when closing an account. They were just as kind and helpful as ever. I have not yet seen a benefit from banking with this credit union!! I have been a member for many years only financed 1 car through them and it was not at a much better interest rate. Even when they mess up the consumer gets to pick up the cost. Lastest event ordered new debit card did not come called wanted to charge me $25 dollars and it might come in 7-10 business really for $25 bucks that the same time frame as normal. While I had my loan through them it was seamless. The problems came after my loan was paid in full and they CONTINUED to charge me for the next two months even after I called to fix the issue. Customer service is rude and a joke and they continue to say the same thing every month while clearly not fixing the issue. Sadly, I will not take out a loan with them again nor will I recommend them to anyone that I know. read more

I have had any account with them for over 25 years. Their customer service cannot be beat. They protect your account and will do anything to make it right. They have a heart and it shows. Money is emotional and they will help you. My debit card was stolen and the fraud dept didn't issue the credit correctly but the managers credited my account earlier so I didn't have issues, they gave me my first loan, they are awesome! read more

My wife and I opened accounts with King County Credit Union 25 years ago which became Prevail Credit Union and now Harborstone. The first thing Harborstone did was to increase fees. In addition to a number of other new fees they charge members $5 every time they make a withdrawal at an ATM outside the US and charge a 3% international transaction fee on credit card transactions. No other credit union that I've talked to charges the $5 fee and most banks charge only a 1% (or 0%) international transaction fee on credit card charges. Finally, you can't reach anyone if you have a problem without fighting your way through an endless phone tree and waiting on hold, during which you hear a recorded advertisement for Harborstone that says "Never pay an ATM fee again!" Terrible customer service, I opened an account a year ago to get away from the big banks lack of personal service. The customer service rep at the Puyallup branch seemed annoyed that I had my children with me the couple of times that I have been inside. She is extremely impatient and not very knowlegable. The final blow was last week when i deposited my paycheck into the ATM after hours and did not notice the sign that said there is a two day hold on ATM deposits. This was the first time I had ever made a deposit in the ATM and not knowing about the hold this was an honest mistake. After going grocery shopping and running errands I logged in to check my balance and had accrued over $200 in overdraft charges. I called customer service and explained the situation and asked them to make an exception since the money was actually there. I was told that is the policy and there was no exception. I am in the customer service industry and believe that knowing the difference between a one time honest mistake and a habitual and unapologetic customer is an important skill to practice. I really feel that they need to review their customer service training and get back to the basics of helping people. read more
