The fish and chips were the best I had in Scotland this past trip, the burger (late night visit) is nothing to write home about (it is huge tho, only get if you're starving). There are a few tables across the road so we grabbed a beer to take in the beautiful view of Loch Broom. We put our name down for dinner since there was a wait and were seated after about 30 minutes. We poured over the menu and the large list of specials up on the wall. Chuck decided his first meal would have to be fish, while I chose a roasted lamb shank. We were not disappointed. When the food came out, the portions were very large but it is high quality. The piece of fish was almost larger than the plate. My lamb was cooked to well that it just fell off the bone with the slightest touch and melted in my mouth. It was the perfect way to start our adventure in the highlands. The ingredients were very fresh and locally sourced. We returned for dinner again for our last night. They were slam packed and we were unable to put our names in for a table. Instead, we went to sit in the bar section, which is first come first serve. Thankfully, we were able to get two seats at the bar and sat for a few rounds before ordering some food. We saw the burgers on our first trip and had to order them for our last meal. These were also very large. It is served with a tomato chutney which was very tasty. As we wrapped up, an accordion player started a set in the back corner. He was really good and everyone in the bar was having a great time. If I ever find myself in Ullapool again, I hope the Arch Inn will still be there to enjoy another meal.

We got a room without water view for 3 adults for GBP 60 with breakfast in early May -- a very reasonable price especially considering that there was a writers' conference under way in town. There's a supermarket just behind the building and street parking is plentiful. The breakfast was substantial and varied, among the best we had in the British Isles. Highly recommended.

Our night at Tulloch Castle Hotel was an experience we will never forget. It's not our typical…read morehotel choice but we were celebrating an anniversary so we splurged. It was incredibly worth it. The main staircase led only to our room. Outside our door was a chair that was hundreds of years old. A throne, basically. Story is that Queen Victoria sat in it...maybe, maybe not. Still amazing. The room was stunning. The copper tub was my highlight. We asked about a ghost tour. They said "come back at 10:45". We forced ourselves to stay awake. We met Rodney. It was just the 3 of us. He proceeded to give us a 2+ hour long history of the castle with a tour that included the dungeon. Directly under OUR room. And yes, ghost stories with photos. As much as I wanted to be scared, Rodney could tell I also wanted to sleep so he kept the stories tame and didnt share them about our particular room. It retrospect I wish he had. Who needs sleep? We had dinner in their bar, The Green Lady. It was delicious and I discovered rubarb and ginger Edinburgh Gin. Our stay was outstanding. Everything we had hoped for. Recommend 100%!

It is a distinctive Grade B listed Georgian house which offers luxury accommodation and wonderful food. We had the blue room - a four poster bed and a large bathroom with a bath on legs! The personal touches in the room include: a welcoming decanter of sherry, fresh fruit, bathrobes as well as a television, direct-dial telephone and a refreshment tray. There is also a lounge for resident's use. On arrival, we were bought tea and shortbread. The dining room is beautiful and has a large piano in it. Would HIGHLY recommend. Slightly more pricey than other B&B's, @ £33pp, but well worth the money.

When the skies are clear, you can see the Isle of Skye in the distance. They have a solarium lounge where you can enjoy the view and have a drink. The dining room also has a wonderful view of the sea loch. Service is warm and wonderful. Our room was comfortable. It faced the back of the hotel and have an odd window that if one wanted to can climb out and walk on the roof. There was also a large vent next to the window, which dominated the view. The strangest of all was the bathroom sink. The bathroom had been remodeled and everything was updated. However, the sink was about 5 inches wide and 11 inches long. It was rather hard to use and keep water from dripping over the side. The breakfasts here are terrific. They have a nice selection of self-serve yogurt/cereals/fruit compotes and even peanut butter. The cooked breakfast menu also have a nice range of choices. I did try the smoked haddock and poached egg one morning. I was surprised to find a whole fillet of smoked haddock. It was good and I got plenty of protein for my day of hiking. The dinners here were also great. Besides the printed menu, there is a big chalkboard of special starters and mains. Our group had a range of items from the printed menu and the specials and everything was delicious and lovingly made. The dessert menu is also on a big chalkboard. A popular choice was the ice creams and especially the very berry ice cream. The staff were wonderful. Even with the strangeness of my room, I would recommend staying here and definitely eating here.

We ate three nights in the hotel's dining room, and each was a splendid affair. Old-school service (amuse-bouche in the drawing room before "going through" to the dining room, and an ever-changing array of delightful dishes. We enjoyed local beef, venison, salmon, and some delectable desserts. Chef was very warm, and always came out at the end of dinner service to say hello and chat about the meal. There are dozens of activities to participate in courtesy of the hotel and surroundings. We took advantage of the landscape, and did two beautiful hikes along the lochs, and partway up one of the nearby mountains.
