Great Inn. I got one on the top floor of the Guest House - Just a standard room - but we have a view of the harbor. The lower floors you get rocking chairs and a lovely view of the gardens, but I'm not sure you could see the lake. The rooms are very nice. The coffee is good. There is tea and coffee from 6 AM - 10 PM. Location is close to downtown but out of the hustle and bustle. Staff has been very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend. read more

What a lovely stay! We stayed two nights in a cottage room that was advertised as having no AC, which we were fine with to stay on the island! We had been recommended this place by some friends and were grateful we took their suggestion. The room was comfortable and enough room for two. It also looked very clean and well kept! To our surprise there was in fact a wall mounted AC unit that kept us more than cool at night- which was fabulous. The location close to downtown but away from chaos was nice and view from the porch was stunning. All staff were sweet and attentive. Highly highly recommend, thank you Harbour View Inn! read more

We stayed here for five nights recently and some parts of our stay were exemplary (5 star) and some parts were less so (closer to 3 stars), so decided to split the difference and call it four. We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon and were able to get our room straight away. We checked in and the clerk provided zero information other than our keys and room number (no details on their breakfast, housekeeping, or even directions to where our room was located). We asked for directions and found our room. Here's where the exemplary comes in--our room was lovely! It was on the third floor and had a stunning view of the lake and the courtyard below. It had an alcove by the window where we spent time every day sitting and staring at the gorgeous view before us. Our bed was comfy and there was plenty of drawers and hangers to be able to completely unpack. Wonderful! Their website mentions something about a breakfast served every day and if you're on the go, you can get a breakfast to go box. We were hopeful for the to-go boxes and found out the first morning that they don't have them (the gentleman working the breakfast had no idea what we were talking about). The breakfast is pretty basic. I travel a ton for work and it's very comparable to Hilton's continental breakfast. It's also only served until 9:30 am. They have bicycles on the property that you can rent (they're more reasonable to rent than some of the other places, especially if you're staying here. We rented a tandem for a cycle around the island one morning, which was delightful. The location is wonderful, just a short walk from the bustle of the main street, but quieter than some of the spots ON the main street. The grounds were beautiful and perfectly maintained. All in all, a lovely stay with some small hiccups and my recommendation to get breakfast elsewhere. read more

Apparently they removed my text, OK fine I will redo. Staff was unpleasant at check in, the room was terrible as pictures show below. I swear the filter on the AC unit was never cleaned causing my and my wife's asthma to act up. The door was clearly busted into and painted over, the AC unit was dripping water onto the bed and floor, we wiped if off only to have it reform as the pic shows. The bed frame paint was peeling off from the dripping, the floor was wet behind the bed so who knows what mold and damage that caused. For what they charged this was horrible!!!! read more

Very disappointing! We just spent July 10 & 11, 2023 there for our 43rd anniversary. My husband booked a harbor view room in early May but we got the worst possible room. Make very sure of the room you are getting! Room 4301 in the "cottage" building is a retro-fitted attic garret (see picture of definition). You cannot walk upright in it without bumping your head due to the severe slope of the ceiling (see picture). The "cottage" is the former LaChance cottage next store to the original historic estate. We stayed at LaChance in our 30's when it was an inexpensive boarding-house type hotel which then had shared bathrooms but it still retains the same look. Trudging up three flights of stairs wasn't easy then, and not happening In our 70's. This garret room shouldn't be rentable without caveats. While there was a screen door view of the harbor, the outside was more of a landing and not a sitting area (see picture). It was too much when we found a toilet cleaning brush inside the closed lid (see picture). We were by told by a clerk there was only other room available with a supposed "garden" view at $20 a night more (see picture of view). We took it because we wanted to walk upright in our room. Apparently the manager was wise enough to not charge us extra and gave us a $100 credit after we expressed our extreme disappointment in our stay. The pluses are the historic nature of the former Madame LaFramboise house. The exterior grounds are beautifully maintained. The light breakfast is a plus. We stayed 2 nights over Memorial Day Weekend. The inn is close enough to town for convenience. The grounds are beautiful. Continental breakfast is pretty basic but substantial enough. Coffee is weak ... I prefer strong coffee so we just went to a cafe. The suite we stayed in was pretty quiet, roomy and clean. Plenty of towels and washcloths are provided. Beds were fairly comfy. We rented bikes here and while they were pretty old and need maintenance they were much cheaper than any of the other rental places on the island. Staff was friendly and porters at docks with no issues. Would definitely return. read more

Pitiful management of our bags! They repeatedly told us our bags would be on the ferry to head back to Mackinaw city. Repeatedly! When we got to Mackinaw City they hadn't even fetched them from our room. We had to wait over an hour for them to come on another ferry. Do not stay here if your bags are important to you. read more

Yes, the room decor was a bit "dated," but quaint. The hotel grounds and gardens are gorgeous. The room had a bedroom, bathroom, and sitting room with balcony. Quiet, clean, nice and cool while the island was hot and humid. Very peaceful and serene. I would absolutely choose the Harbour View again. read more

My family and I all tested positive for Covid, 5 days before our stay. We called to cancel and asked for a refund. We were staying for 1 night midweek. We were met with so much resistance it was incredible. Personally, I would've refunded the money and wished the family well. I also would've been appreciative that they were honest and protecting guests. We finally ended up with a refund less the $25 fee. I guess my issue is that we're in a known pandemic, there was doctor's documentation, we were following CDC guidelines and were honest. Isn't that enough? They can have the $25. It's the principle that is my issue. No concern for guests...just concerned about the bottom line. Very very sad. read more

Everything was good except for the continental breakfast. Pretty bland and the same every day. We ate it once and went out the other days. Other than that staff was fabulous, informative and friendly. Room was spotless. They changed the towels each day. The bed was comfortable. It is an old house so if you want the luxuries of a hotel don't stay in an B&B Inn. The room we had was tiny and had no windows so I imagine could be possibly stuffy in summer. Other than that it is very charming and located close to town, in walking distance. Plus you have bike rentals half the price of other places. If I would suggest an upgrade, ceiling fans and a better read more

The Good: Every person at the Inn was very friendly, polite and helpful. For example, I booked our room online and then immediately realized that we would be missing the last ferry and would have no way to use our room the first night I'd booked it. Our reservation was supposed to be firm -- no changes or cancellations. But, when I called to explain the situation, they removed that night from the reservation without any questions or hassle. The Bad: Our room was so dirty and run down. I would never recommend anyone stay here. -- The baseboard heater was broken and it was repaired with decorative duct tape. The sink, although plastic and not ceramic, was cracked. -- The plastic handle on the sliding door to the balcony was broken. We were there in the off season, and there was no one else using the (shared) balcony. But there was still an old cookie and crumpled napkin right outside our balcony door for several days. -- There were so many dirty corners and edges: the tops of switch plates, the top of the backsplash in the bathroom and the lower shelf of a console table were all thick with dust. The blades of the ceiling fan were filthy. I had my two young kids with me. When we had to peek under furniture to recover lost toys, it was gross -- dirty carpet, a big hair ball, trash from some previous occupant of the room. -- The grossest part. My son has asthma and ended up having serious breathing problems while we were there. Nothing like this has ever happened before, and I think it was partly related to the dirty room (although, of course, this is speculation). We had to leave the island and go to the nearest hospital for a couple of nights. I alerted the front desk staff before we left. When we returned, I saw something on the floor that looked like a potato chip. We had snacked in the room one rainy day, and I wanted to make sure to not leave a food mess. But, when I leaned down to pick up the "chip", I realized it was actually someone's long, broken off finger nail. It definitely made me wonder if someone had been taking advantage of our empty space (that we were still paying for) while we were at the hospital. It's possible nothing like that happened, and some poor person just broke a nail while cleaning our room. However, it was the straw that broke the camel's back. tl;dr I have stayed a lot of different places at a lot of different price points. I have never once experienced anything like this. It was my first time on the island, so I have nothing to compare it to. But, I hope there aren't many other places like this one. I think you would be better off anywhere but here. read more

The perfect start to the Wedding weekend Doolen-Flynn wedding Sept 2, 2018 My wife and I chose the Harbour View Inn to host are Rehearsal Dinner and the welcome to the Island Mixer for our wedding. That choice was the perfect springboard to the wedding weekend and we couldn't have been more pleased. Becky was our direct contact and she made the planning process effortless. We always felt we had a partner in her and that is a gift. We will always look back and think of Becky as one of the people who made this a perfect weekend happen. The general manager of the Inn Michelle also made us feel like family right when we walked into the property. She New we were making up welcome bags for our guests to the Island and she gave us a space to work in so we didn't have to do it in our room. Every possible stressed that would come up was quickly dissolved by the staff at Harbour View. We had 2 separate reservations for our room and in between the 2 nights the staff moved our belongings to the next room and hung everything up while we were out. When we returned all we had to do is pick up the key. We had our rehearsal dinner and welcome mixer on the same night back to back. The professionalism of staff was perfect. They made all our guests feel well taken care of. The food was amazing for the rehearsal dinner. We went with the barbecue option which made everyone feel at ease and promoted such a feeling of family which was what we wanted. The space was indoor/outdoor which made the night perfect. They seamlessly turned over the room for the welcome mixer. The butler service of the food was great and the guests were so pleased with the quality. Again during this time Becky and Michelle were right by our sides making sure everything we needed was done. The energy of the Inn and the staff made this the perfect way to start the wedding celebration. We will always be grateful for what you did for us. So check in was easy and the person that checked us in was really nice. We had to walk across the grass to our building. The room was on the second floor. Our bags had been delivered to our room. The room was very small. But it looked as it was recently updated so it was nice and it had a deck area we could sit on and watch the Main Street. One thing that stood out to me, there is no counter in the bathroom so you can't even set down the toothpaste tube or anything else. The biggest issue was there was a red LED exit sign in the room I guess to indicate there was an exit to the deck. I understand that it is needed but the whole room is illuminated all night with red light. It drove me crazy. I don't know what a solution would be to fix it if the sign has to be there but who wants a room with a bright light on all night next to the bed? The other thing was the hotel floors, stairs and doors are very squeaky so you hear that all night long and you can hear people in the other rooms very easily, just be aware. read more

Nice hotel with decent rates - hard to know which sort of room to reserve/request based on the three different buildings. I let them know several months before we came that we would be on our honeymoon. We were given a second floor room with a view looking straight at another building, which was disappointing. The other rooms in our row with the shared balconies had a nice views of the water. We thought maybe honeymooners might be awarded at least a little bit of a view, but maybe the thinking was more to give us some privacy? The good things are the quiet nature of it, the close proximity to the main street shops and restaurants, and although the breakfast wasn't anything glamorous - they figured out a way to make it work despite the pandemic. The biggest con about the Harbour View Inn, and the reason that we won't stay there again, is the thin walls and floors. We could hear every conversation, every footstep, every bit of TV news from the rooms next to us and above us. I understand this is an older property, but it was almost creepy how much we could hear. Otherwise, the staff was very helpful and we enjoyed our honeymoon. read more

Tried a new place to stay when we came to the Island this time. First let's start with the good. Staff was super friendly, hotel was very pretty and looked freshly redone, gardens were beautifully kept, beds were decent, place was very clean, porters for the most part were very on top of it and breakfast was opened promptly on time. Few issues. We booked and paid for a king garden view room with a balcony. Upon arrival we were sent to a king room that looked nothing like the website pictures, no balcony. When we asked what the deal was, they tried to say the patio under our room that was blocked by a window air conditioner was a "garden view". I paid for an upgraded room and they tried to pass off their cheap room with no heads up or even at least offered to decrease our bill to the standard room fee, just be honest. That wasn't going to fly so they told my husband they only had queen garden view rooms left (not happy about a tiny queen bed but I wanted the balcony so we took it). The room was beautiful and although it wasn't what we booked, I was thankful for the balcony and view. Housekeeping is VERY loud starting pretty early, they woke us up slamming drawers and just making noise all 3 days. Super friendly and nice people, just very loud. We were told breakfast was sandwiches and grab and go muffins. All three days there were no sandwiches no matter how early or late you arrived (only muffins and cereal) so we ended up spending a good deal of money on breakfast (I can't eat sugary foods due to blood sugar issues). There is one young porter in particular that was just not nice to the people visiting (don't be rude when wearing a company shirt). I was shocked when he YELLED at a group of people crossing the street "THERE IS A SIDEWALK FOR A REASON", he was FLYING through groups of walkers, bikers and horses and those people never saw him. He also got angry when the people coming up the hill on bikes caused him to stop as he was leaving the drive (slow down buddy, it's a tough trip up that hill and they had right of way, they were on the road and you were leaving a drive). Lastly, the hotel really needs to invest in some bolt cutters, some idiot locked my bike up with a bike lock and I found it 30 minutes before the ferry was leaving. They didn't have any (although the did look for 10 minutes) so I left my $100 bike on the island and went home. That is not the hotels fault, just a tip, maybe investing in a set wouldn't be a bad idea. I now have to buy a bike before next weekend because I used it all the time. read more

I'm only giving 2 stars because I haven't slept much in 2 nights due to the insanely thin walls!!!! Prior to COVID, I traveled 80% of the time for business and have never stayed in a hotel with walls this thin. There must be a small village living above us that are awake 24/7 and are running marathons while talking non-stop. Other than that, large room for the $ overlooking the gardens and the staff is great. Mission Point suddenly closed so it was a scramble to find a place literally at the last minute so thankful there was a room available here. If you want a vacation where you're able to sleep though perhaps stay somewhere else. Soooooo tired........and needed the outdoors plus rest after working constantly since February read more

The one building that has an elevator is up a very steep hill and the bathroom was not handicap friendly. We stayed at the Harbour View Inn on our recent stay at Mackinac Island. We were pretty impressed! The staff was great and our room was pretty good. Our bed was super comfortable and overall the room was very clean and the size was good (although we did upgrade our room). I liked the breakfast offerings each morning: cereal, pastries, fruit, tea, coffee, juice, hardboiled eggs...pretty much a little bit of something for everyone. We were there to attend a friend's wedding, also at the Harbour View, and everything went very smoothly and was very nicely done, in my opinion. The only downsides were that the wifi connection was spotty, so if you're hoping to get a little bit of work done on your vacation, like my husband was, you may have some difficulty. We also were given a room directly above the kitchen, so we woke up each morning when they started getting breakfast ready due to the noise. Shower pressure was also meh but not terrible (I did like the soap and shampoo offerings, however!). If I ever returned to Mackinac Island (which, let's be honest, is doubtful considering it was a full day of traveling each way for us!), I would stay here again! read more

I recently visited Mackinac Island with my two teenage children for the first time. We had no idea where to stay, but I found the reviews here intriguing so we decided to give it a chance. When we booked the hotel was offering a special deal on their website, which was not being shown on the usual travel sites, so you should check there first before booking. We arrived on a Wednesday night in the pouring rain. We were met at the dock by a hotel valet, and we identified our two large suitcases that had to weigh 40 pounds each. He told us that he would meet us at the hotel and left as we began our walk. I suppose we could have found a taxi but we had umbrellas so decided to walk. It is about a 10 minute walk or so from the dock, past the middle of town towards the church (which you can easily see from the ferry on the way in). I knew that Mackinac did not have any motorized transportation, but have to admit to being surprised when we saw our valet riding past us on a bike, with our two large suitcases strapped to his handlebars!! We quickly learned that that's how things are done on Mackinac, but it was a little bit of a shock - I'm glad that we didn't pack anything fragile in case of a fall! The hotel was as gorgeous as the photos on the website, the flowers in full bloom. We were placed in the guest house, which is a separate building behind the main building. We were on the 4th floor, but it does have an elevator if you don't want to walk the stairs. The weather when we were there was a balmy 72 degrees most days, so we didn't use the air conditioning, we had the windows open and ceiling fan on and it was just wonderful. Our room was beautiful, immaculate, very large with 2 queen sized beds, and a fabulous view (room 3414). The window shutters are not that great at keeping light out, but beyond that I have nothing bad to say at all. We had plenty of closet space, counter space, and I liked having the sink outside of the main bath/shower room because it made getting ready so much easier. Breakfast was delicious, although the seating is tight. Lots of tables and chairs, but they are packed in. Cold cereals, oatmeal, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, pastries/muffins, and toast are offered. It is an easy 5 minute walk into town to sign up for the carriage rides through the park and to the fort, and we loved being able to sit on the front porch and watch all the horses and carriages go by, and to watch the boats in the harbour. Everywhere you walk you will see beautiful displays of flowers, we were taking pictures like crazy! The hotel is also just a few steps away from a large park - tons of space for kids to run, or to lay out a blanket for a picnic. One afternoon we chose to take a bike ride - the hotel itself has tons of bikes to choose from in all sizes and styles. The island itself has multiple bike rental places as well, and there are so many options it is almost overwhelming - regular bikes, kid sized two wheelers, tandems, the "third wheel" style that attaches to an adult bike for an older child, the baskets that attach to the rear of the bike for little children, etc. - you do not have to worry in any way about accommodating your family with the appropriate bike. I couldn't believe how many people rented tandems!! And all bikes come with the front basket for cameras, lunch, a spare sweater, bags of fudge, whatever. Anyway - the bike ride itself around the island is 8 miles long on a smooth paved road that is very flat, with only one or two small inclines. It took us about 2 hours to make the ride, and we stopped fairly frequently to check out the sights. Well worth doing, and having the ability to rent bikes from the hotel made it very easy. One afternoon we also just chilled out on the second floor front porch - all the porches are open to all the residents and are filled with comfy chairs, so the people watching was excellent. I cannot express how much we enjoyed our stay here - it added the perfect touch to our Mackinac visit. When we were ready to go, we left our luggage at the front desk, and went into town. When we were ready to board our ferry, we called the hotel and they had a valet bring it down to meet us at the dock (again on his bike!). Harbour View is a well-kept historic property close to the Main Street where the shops and restaurants are. We chose an economical accommodation, so our room was smallish and the view of the water was through the window in the door that went out to our balcony. Unfortunately it was too cold to enjoy the balcony, but it was lovely. The staff made it very enjoyable and had good advice for things to do on the island. Be sure to rent bikes from the hotel, and plan to take them around the island trail - the most beautiful 8 miles you will ever bike. The only reason for 4 stars was the breakfast, which was adequate, but nothing special. The coffee left a lot to be desired. Great staff, nicely maintained historic property, just get your coffee down the street. read more

There is no made for you breakfast, it is all continental style and there are no hosts to serve or interact with your during the meal. It's cute and quaint, appropriate for the island. Staff incredibly friendly. My issues with it include the following: air conditioning unit froze up and moaned all night, my choice was either moaning or being really hot all night. Didn't sleep past 3am. Hot water lasted about 3 minutes and that's being generous for both of our morning showers. Toilet plugged once, they came and plunged it, plugged up again in the AM so didn't want to call again so didn't use the entire morning that we checked out. Room was small,hot,muggy and expensive which I don't mind paying for if it was decent. Don't mean to be negative but just not the experience I was hoping for on Mackinac Island. read more

We stayed in the Cottage (the smaller blue hotel also owned by Harbor) during our stay. Overall the hotel was cute, clean, and has friendly staff. We were on the 4th floor of the building so walking up all those stairs multiple times was a little rough. Also the bed and pillows were HARD. I woke up each morning with a stiff neck and back. I really wish I would have brought a pillow from home. The room overall was tiny, but it was cute. If the bed wasn't as hard as it was then it would have made the experience a lot more enjoyable. Just spent a great weekend at Harbour View Inn. We were greeted on Friday evening by the great staff at this hotel. The decor in this hotel is beautiful with murals painted on the walls. The room was very clean and spacious. The housekeeping staff were nice enough to clean our room later in the day and leave extra towels for us. We appreciated the fact that the porter service delivered our bags to the dock so we could enjoy the activities around the island before our ferry. We look forward to our next visit! read more

Over all a nice place, the staff was very pleasant and the place was very clean. But there was a few things wrong, the TV itself needs to be replaced with a new flat screen, the cable signal was poor, they stated there was internet in the rooms but we had no signal in the room you could only pick it up in the lobby. Then our last night there we had a room full of mosquitos. Then maid left a note stating "Be blessed by god my sons" this is one of things for me "keep your religion to yourself". Our room had a jacuzzi tub and a queen bed on the third floor(no elevator). The bed was comfortable. My only complaint was the shower- it literally was a trickle and the lowest water pressure I have ever encountered in a hotel. The second floor porch had a nice view and comfortable chairs. The provided continental breakfast included eggs, bagels, English muffins, toast, bananas, cereal, yogurt and scrambled eggs. read more

We stayed here on a Saturday night. They were accommodating and they let us change our reservation even though we had originally booked for the following night. It is very cute. The entrance is in the second building when you are walking from the ferry. They had a courier get our bags from the dock and bring them up to our room, and then get our bags from our room and bring them to the dock in the morning. That was a very nice service since the inn is a bit of a walk from the dock. Not too far but it was really cold so it was nice to not have to carry all the bags. We stayed one night in the carriage house on the third floor. The room was clean and nice, and it has a king size bed. There were extra pillows in one of the drawers. the bed was moderately comfortable. The room had functional heating and air conditioning. The lady at the front desk recommended a dinner place and it was a great recommendation. We didn't have breakfast because we wanted something a bit more substantial. I didn't see what they had but the sign said continental breakfast so I'm really not sure what they had exactly. The only complaints I have are pretty minor and they all have to do with noise. There were loud people walking around late at night outside and we could easily hear what they were saying. Also, it seems like the walls are pretty thin so we could hear our neighbors a little. And the floor above us was creaky so we could hear when they walked around, which they were doing both late at night and early in the morning. I would definitely consider staying here again, as I think it is a good value. read more
