This is the most iconic Mackinac Island inn! It is located perfectly in the middle of everything but yet off the beaten track. The property is beautifully landscaped as you would expect on Mackinac but some how it seems more intimate and inviting than the rest. The hotel is historic but well maintained and appointed. The caretakers and desk staff are friendly and helpful. The front porch is decked with comfy chairs for reading and tables for group visits (or carry out dinners during a pandemic). Our room was sweet and comfortable. I always appreciate nice smelling soaps and lotions and they did not skimp on these. Best of all the best was so comfortable. Blanca and Dan, the innkeepers, make you feel welcomed. This was our second time. First for my dad's wedding and second for my dad's wedding anniversary. They and all the staff take care of the littlest details from snacks for everyone throughout the day (bowl of cherries, fudge, water/tea/coffee) to bike towels to dry off your bike in the rain to making sure we had dinner reservations for my dad's wedding anniversary. They also gave us permission to use the BBQ grill for dinner one night. They took off stress from our plate. The rooms are cozy with comfortable beds. The gardens and location behind the Main St but still close in proximity to town makes you feel like you are in a different world. Only downside I have is that I'm a foodie and their eggs were a little off. However, they provide a lot of options for breakfast. You can always rely on the oatmeal, granola and fruit! I love this place. We have stayed here for one night every summer in the last three years. Each time I have seen the same friendly smiles and staff. They are very courteous. I wanted to write this review in particular because last week after leaving the island and making it all the way back to Gaylord, MI I realized that I had lost my Apple Airpods (retail $160+). I called the hotel right away and they had already found them. The kind woman over the phone was happy to ship them out that day. I have already received them, took one week. I am so happy about this level of service. Also it is very nice that they serve a delicious breakfast every morning and also put out fudge and cookies in the afternoon. Particularly this year they served a peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie which was amazing. I had to eat three. Thank you Metivier Inn, we will see you again next year hopefully. read more

Metivier Inn is fast becoming one of my favorite places to stay on Mackinac Island. Located on Market Street, it is a little quieter than being in one of the main hotels or Inns. It is a unique B&B in the sense that all the rooms are completely different. The last two times we have stayed there we booked rooms at the last minute, so consequently with six nights at the inn we have stayed in five different rooms. I didn't have a problem with this at all, it's given us a sense of where we want to stay in the Inn if we actually make plans in advance. They have one of the most beautiful gardens on the island, the horse carriage tours often stop in front of the inn to comment on the gardens and talk about the Island hospital which is right next-door. Don't worry, you barely know it's there except for the people hobbling up after bicycle, horse and walking injuries, which really isn't very often. When you need a break from walking, exploring and cycling around the island, come back to the inn and sit on their beautiful front porch. It's great for people watching. Breakfast in the morning is usually two hot foods, eggs, sausage, french toast, waffles, etc and their famous oatmeal. To accompany those are fruit, bagels, pastries and great coffee, tea and juices. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon, cookies, coffee and tea are put out to help tide you over until you go to some great restaurant on the island for dinner. When staying at the Inn, check out the garden behind the house, very few people know about it. It is a great place to sit and read, nap or just enjoy the quiet. Now that I've said that, I'm regretting it. I'm not sure I really want to share that with everybody. Remember that these are older homes and do not have elevators, they do have a few first-floor rooms. But you would have to call early, it is worth the stay read more

I really enjoyed staying here. It's just steps away from the main drag, but very quiet. I loved the sound of the horse carriages coming down the street at night. The gardens are really beautiful and well maintained. The people who run the place are lovely people. The continental breakfast has so many tasty choices, and the service is great. What a lovely, lovely, lovely place. I felt lucky to be staying there. The service was top notch. The rooms were simply delightful with super comfy beds. They have the most yummy continental breakfast I've ever had. The gardens are the best on the island. It's just behind the main drag, so it's a little more peaceful but you still get horse drawn carts going past all the time. I really don't know what else to say. It is just such a wonderful place. We just stayed for our 18th anniversary, this is a beautiful bed and breakfast and off the Main Street, which is priceless!! We loved our stay. The room was beautiful, quiet and comfortable! We loved the jacuzzi and the private deck. It was gorgeous weather and the windows and doors were open, creating a beautiful spot for relaxing. We happened on this Inn last year, when the place we usually visit had no vacancy. We were so anxious to go to the island that we took a chance and booked the Metivier. We were delighted! I have just gotten off the phone with the rudest person I have ever talked to in my entire life! I called this am and talked with someone about room availability at the Metivier Inn. The only room available was on the 3rd floor, which I would not work for me due to physical limitations. The person I spoke with suggested their sister Inn that had a room available. Since I had not had a chance to check out the property online, I asked what their cancellation policy was. I was told that I had until 14 days prior to my reservation to cancel and that I didn't have much time left. End of discussion. When I got my confirmation, it stated that if I cancelled - I would be charged a $25 cancellation fee. As this was news to me!!! After looking over the property online, I called to cancel the room. This was 8 hours after making the reservation, not the next day or 2 days later. The person who answered the phone told me there was no way I wasn't told about the $25 deposit, proceeded to be VERY RUDE on the phone stating I was wrong and must have misheard and that I would be charged the cancellation fee. I did not mistake what I was told. I am not hard of hearing or stupid. So beware when staying here and hope that you don't have any problems! Or you may be treated like an idiot by the staff. read more

My college roommate and I do a little reunion trip every June, and this year we went to Mackinac Island, somewhere I had dreamed of visiting for 30 years. The whole island is magical - horses and flowers and hiking and history and beauty all around - but as we drove home the 500 miles to Buffalo yesterday, we agreed that having the Metivier Inn as our home base was the best part of the trip. It was simply lovely in every way. As we got off the ferry, someone was there to take our bags to the Inn and since we'd arrived well before check-in time, we filled our first day with a carriage tour and lunch, etc. While on the carriage tour, we saw this lovely place ahead on our right - breathtaking flowers and a huge porch - and as we got closer and could see the sign, we realized that THAT was where we were staying! It was wonderful to spend a few hours each day on the porch and watch the world go by...loved the very early mornings on the porch, too...watching the town wake up while holding a hot cup of coffee, enjoying conversations with the other guests, feeling genuinely welcomed by the truly amazing staff. Breakfasts were great...pretty plates, pretty room, hot and delicious choices as well as granola and fruit and pastry....in mid-afternoons, they put out cookies and fudge and lemonade. It really did feel like a "home" to come back to between biking and hiking and touring, and its central location allowed us to enjoy our days so much. We never had the "absolutely exhausted on vacation" feeling because we could always pop home for an hour or two between adventures. We chose this place based on reviews and the description of the gardens, but one thing that several people mentioned that I didn't really fully appreciate until we were there: the location on Market Street! I thought I wanted a water view, but we didn't miss it at all. We spent all day with gorgeous views of the water, and staying a street away from the hubbub of Main Street was a gift. We are already planning our next trip and can't say enough about the staff, the rooms, the location, the details that made our time there so comfortable and relaxing. We absolutely loved this quaint bed and breakfast! We took Sheplers fairy over to the island on June 25th for our first anniversary and were worried about finding the B&B but it was just up the first street! So easy to find and so close to the Main Street. The staff was friendly. They gave us suggestions of where to eat and where younger couples like us hang out. They even have a book in the sitting room of the office that has the menus of all the restaurants on the island. Our room was nice and clean. The mattress was very comfortable, unlike most hotels. The air was on in the room when we entered so it was nice and refreshing. We had an over all wonderful experience. Anytime we go back this will be the place we stay. read more

If you're looking for a place to stay on Mackinac that provides you a view of beautiful gardens, the clip clop sound of the horses, clean beautifully decorated rooms and a very friendly staff than look no further Metivier Inn is the place you should stay. Did I mention the amazing gardens? Spend time walking around the back of the hotel so you don't miss every single beautiful garden one of the owners herself works on with her own two hands. The breakfast is also very tastey. Most B&B only offer cereal, toast and yogurt. At the Metivier they served us a full breakfast every day and it kept us full past lunch. read more

We've stayed at the Metivier 4 times now and each time we leave talking about when we'll come back. The Metivier is located on Market Street so it is the next street over from the main strip on Mackinac Island. The rooms are quaint and comfortable. The living room is perfect for relaxing after biking all day or shopping but my wife and I prefer sitting out on the porch. The breakfast served every day has lots of options for fueling up before you head out for the day and I am a big fan of the oatmeal. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay in mid-September. Like other Yelpers we found the Metivier Inn to provide a comfortable room, a delightful breakfast, generous afternoon snacks and beautifully relaxing gardens. The reason for the 4 rating was relatively low water pressure on the third floor. We were grateful to visit on a cool and pleasant weekend as we ventured to guess that this third floor room might be somewhat uncomfortable during a peak summer stay. The room rates were quite reasonable, the location was convenient to the ferries but at the same time off of the main drag - great location. The wi-fi service was very slow but the bed was very comfortable. We would stay there again on any subsequent return visits. read more
