3 of us went on a girls trip and needed 3 beds. Lilac tree has a room with 3 queen beds that is perfect! One room had 2 beds and a closet and dresser. The bathroom is in the middle and the front room has a bed, a sitting area and a small kitchenette. The room was comfy and fairly quiet for being in the middle of everything. The front desk was wonderful! I needed to get a scooter and they let me park it in the lobby overnight. When we planned the trip we wanted to stay at the Grand but after staying here we were so glad we were in town with so much to do and we could still go up and see the Grand. read more

Clean overall, quite despite being on the busy Main Street, friendly staff. However, it's hardly a 3 star hotel, the price was outrageous two nights no breakfast $1200!. My first visit, should have reserved in any Inn anywhere, or in the city and use the ferry which is available every half an hour. Room chain lock was broken. The refrigerator was large, good microwave. Nice balcony. No room service for such a hefty cost!. All and all for healthy tourists, use the many Inns available or stay in the city, you can save 50% at least. read more

I stayed here with my mom and my sister on our Mackinac Island vacation. The room was very nice, I really liked the aesthetic of the hotel and it was definitely giving "Girl's Trip". We stayed on the 4th floor and enjoyed people watching on the main street from the balcony. My only complaints about the room, however were on the balcony. I found it a little odd that there was no privacy between the rooms on the balconies. In addition, each balcony only had 2 seats, despite that fact that our room was advertised to sleep 6. Loved the hotel! When we were searching on TripAdvisor for places to stay on Macinac island, very few places would allow only one night booking. Lilac did and I appreciate that. We booked a suite on fourth floor. Rooms were clean,beds were nice,double vanity, coffee machine, microwave and small fridge in the room. They had an iPad charger along with iPod docking station. Water view from the balcony. Balcony faced the Main Street, but was not noisy at night. Very peaceful and spacious. The hotel is within walking distance of the ferry docks. Plenty of food places within walking distance. My office contacted me and wanted a document signed urgently. The hotel had a wireless printer which I used to print the document. They then faxed it for me too. I was impressed by the technology they had and by the convenience of the service. read more

We really enjoyed this hotel. The location was great and the staff was very helpful. Our room was large and clean. Its sister property is the Chippewa which is great because you can use their large hot tub/pool while having a bite to eat and drink at the Pink Pony which is right on the water . I stayed here for New Years Eve, and it was stellar. The staff and service were, without a doubt, some of the best I've ever experienced in all my travels at inns, hotels, motels, and BnBs. These folks are masters of their craft and experts at hospitality. Bart and Jennifer, the front desk face of the operation, were phenomenal. From telephone etiquette to local advice, I was blown away by their friendliness and readiness to go above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible. When I had a special dietary request for the included breakfast, the nice lady (sorry, I didn't get her name) sent Bart to the market to get almond milk! I never expected something like that, and I was floored. When I asked about watching Somewhere in Time, Bart made that happen, too. He hand delivered the DVD player and a copy of the movie to my room, and I was able to enjoy a remarkably special viewing of the film just steps away from where it was filmed. As far as the accommodations themselves go, they were spacious and clean. The bathroom had a simply AWESOME whirlpool tub; our room didn't have a view, but I believe others look out over the quaint main street. Location of the inn is fantastic, right in the middle of all the neat stuff. While off season had limited selection on entertainment and shopping, it was a nice relatively quiet time on the island. What was open was just a block or two away from the hotel's doorstep. While I never really see myself returning during the busy season, I'd like to return to this quiet little spot in the future, sometime after labor day and before the new year. read more

My husband and I recently stayed at the Lilac Tree during our anniversary trip to the island. We loved it!! The staff had left us lovely treats and a handwritten card as they knew it was our anniversary. The room was spacious, comfortable and spotless. The little details are thoughtful- turning down the bed and leaving chocolates at night, stopping by with milk and cookies. When passing staff in hallways or sharing an elevator, they were so kind and friendly, always asking if we are enjoying ourselves, always wishing us well or letting us know they were available should need assistance. Front desk staff were friendly and thorough, swiftly making arrangements for the transfer of our luggage. The porters were prompt, friendly and very helpful. The location can't be beat!! We will be back, but next time we are going to get a balcony sweet overlooking the street activity!! read more

Absolutely loved our stay at Lilac. This was our first trip to Mackinac and we were sure what to expect. We stayed in the 3 queen room on the 2nd floor. The layout was large and functional. You entered into a room with a couch, 2 chairs, TV, 1 queen bed, and the kitchenette with microwave, mini fridge, sink, and coffee maker. The back room was a double queen with chairs and TV. The 2 room were separated by a room with a large vanity counter and double sinks. There were two doors that could close off this area for privacy. Then off of that room was a spacious bathroom with a HUGE double occupancy jet tub and toilet. The room was very clean and comfortable. The devil is old style and very floral. But it doesn't seem dated; that's just the style of Mackinac island. The bathroom was all white marble tiles and was actually very nice. The little details were awesome. For example, the coffee maker is a keurig with k-cups. They also provided beach towels. There is a cell photo charging doc with room for 3 phones. Lots of nice little additions here and there. Customer service was very friendly and the hotel was conveniently located. We enjoyed using the 29 person hot tub (basically a pool) at their sister hotel across the street. It's right on the harbor and the view was fantastic. read more

If you are a balcony lover like our family, and even choose a hotel for that feature alone...Lilactree is probably not the best choice. The decent size balconies are only up to chance. This isn't our first stay at the Lilac, but it seems we are never lucky enough to get the normal or large size balcony, even with calling ahead ( which we have every stay)...they can't gurantee, and dont seem to try to accommodate for us. I always think next time..., but we haven't been lucky enough to experience it. What really stinks about this is, that the other balcony's are pretty much always empty. Staff is nice, but this is definitely not cool...nor does it seem fair. The photo is us trying to enjoy our evening on the smallest balcony at the hotel...hysterical! read more

Great location, great service, great everything My friends and I were contemplating where to stay on the island and we are so glad we stayed here !! First off, location is amazing. Near by great restaurants, and the ferry dock is a close walk :) Service was amazing. It was one of my friend's birthday while staying at the hotel. I mentioned it when confirming the reservation and the staff was nice enough to get us a fudge and write a handwritten card! It truly made our stay Rooms are perfect in size. Amenities are great. You have been upgraded to 5 stars from 3. Most hotels on the island are a place to rest my head after racing to the Island and after a lack of sleep, coupled with a "touch" of rum at the Pink Pony all I really need is a shower and a comfortable bead to wake up in. Why then am I giving them 5 stars you may ask? It comes down to customer service... A little background is needed to put things in perspective I suppose. I have raced to the Island 14 times now and what we do is load shore bags into a car in Chicago and a friend, relative, loved one will act as shore crew and deliver our post race cloths and toiletries to the Island so we do not have to carry them on the boat as it is additional weight. There is trust put in the services that our friends and the Island merchants provide. I will say the Lilac Tree went above and beyond this year. My bag went missing somewhere between the parking lot at Shepler's Ferry dock in Mackinaw City and the L.T. Upon me noticing that the bag had not made it to the hotel the front desk staff called all the hotels and B&B's to see if my bag had shown up accidentally at their properties to no avail. Bags do go missing on the Island, it happens I get it and most do eventually show up. A Lilac Tree employee, who splits time between two properties, kept my bags description tucked away in her head and when she happened across it at a B&B she worked at she immediately rolled it back to the L.T. and called me to let me know it was located. After a discussion with their staff as to its whereabouts and how it came to be located they offered to ship my bag back to me. Thank you for going the extra step, I truly appreciate it. read more

Was unimpressed with this hotel. My husband and I are frequent travelers and have basic expectations for any hotel. When we arrived, the houskeepers hampers were out in the open, and the janitors closet was wide open, I ended up closing it a few hours later because it bothered me. Very dim lighting and poor heating system. It would make one of the rooms warm and one hot. In addition, we were woken up at 3 am by drunk people banging on the door next door. I called the hotel secretary after this continued for 15 min, no answer. We were then woken up by the cleaning staff that morning around 9am vacuuming loudly, constantly opening and closing doors, etc. These problems can all be fixed and regulated. read more

I had previously given the Lilac Tree Inn and Suites a terrible review based on my reaction to there cancellation /rescheduling policy . Since then the Lilac Tree has honored my reservation and used my deposit for future date , I am very appreciative and give credit where credit is due . Stayed two nights for our anniversary. Great hotel in the middle of Main Street. Balcony view of Main Street was great for people watching. Room was typical old hotel with floral motif and wicker furniture. It was surprisingly large for an old hotel. A few minor quibbles were we would have liked a door between the bedroom and living area. Also the TVs were new flat screens but reception was a grainy analog picture. The front desk was very helpful and Archie the porter was great in managing our luggage from the ferry. We travel with our disabled daughter and the hotel was ADA compliant. read more

We got a great last minute deal to stay here on a Monday night. We had an island view (ie parking lot/alley view) on the second floor. The room was very quiet and clean. I'm sure lake view is more noisy because it looks down onto main street. The location was good. It's right in the heart of the Main street strip. It's a 5 minute walk from most restaurants, ferries and bike rentals. We had AC, 2 tvs, 3 sinks and a fridge in the room. The shower had good hot water pressure. It's definitely decorated in an "old Aunt Lila" style, with floral wallpaper, bedspread and dark carpet. It looks like there should be 12 cats living there too. The whole place looks like a floral shop exploded. Check in and out was a breeze. The front desk was friendly. I've stayed in a few different hotels on the island and they are all about the same. Do NOT expect the modern "marriott" hotel spa experience. These places are all relatively old, with smaller rooms. read more

Booked here for a couple of days on our first visit to Mackinac Island. Having previously figured out that the Island is not the place for a cheap vacation, I spent some time checking out the various hotels, etc. and decided that Lilac Tree had pretty reasonable rates and good availability, so I booked with the hope that the place wasn't too rustic. When checking in and getting to our room, I just had one word -- YAY! Our double-queen suite was very spacious, was beautifully furnished, had very comfortable beds, and the walk-out balcony facing Main St. gave us a wonderful view of the harbor, and my wife loved to just sit and listen to the horse-drawn carriages going past. A nice touch suggesting that the management is keeping in touch with their clientele was two clock-radio-iDevice-docks, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. (Bring your own charge cables, though; these things have USB charging ports instead of actual device connectors on the bottom of each docking bay.) No on-site breakfast outside of an in-room Keurig machine, but there are a number of great breakfast places within a short walk of the hotel. All things considered, I think that Lilac Tree gave me excellent quality for my money, and I would absolutely re-book here the next time my bride and I come to Mackinac! read more

Overall great hotel!!!! Located right off of Main Street on Mackinaw Island you can simply walk out of the hotel and go anywhere you would like in just a short walk. The Lilac Tree has Large rooms with a fantastic balcony view overlooking Main Street. Our room was fully outfitted with two TVs, a living room, and two very comfortable beds. There were only a few negatives to the hotel the was the wifi was patchy and inconsistent at times. Also, the balcony did not have full sized dividers. For example you could be siting on the balcony and see the people next to you staying in the other room. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying on Mackinaw Island simply because the large room with all of its amenities and the amazing view of Main Street. read more

After reading many TripAdvisor and Yelp reviews, plus checking prices and availability, I chose Lilac Tree Suites for vacation lodging on Mackinac Island. It was a very pleasant surprise to have it exceed my expectations. It's very clean. The rooms are spacious. The view is better than described. All of these hotels are older buildings and noise can be a factor. I can hear the ice machine in the night for example. But otherwise it has been quiet. read more

LOVED this hotel! Loved the beautiful big suite. It was decorated in soft yellow with white shutters on the windows and old fashioned blue and white quilts on the very comfortable beds. 2 Flat Screen tvs, a sitting area with couch and chairs (a great place to bring a pizza back), a large vanity and great shower. Very quiet, even though the hotel is on the main street and in the heart of all the shops and restaurants. Bart, the Front Desk Manager, was awesome! Very helpful and informative. Would love to go back every year and stay at the Lilac. Relaxing! read more
