    a display of authentic sausages

Best fresh polish and sauerkrat in the area. Excellent selection, good hours, can pre order for holiday rush. Always happy to stop by for excellent fresh or frozen meat, or sausage. Also a nice perogi selection and desserts.

It's always a good idea to order food at this spot. Their food is really delicious and I must say I really love its authentic cuisine. Last time I ordered sandwich with sausage and French fries and it was worth my money. French fries were crispy and tasty and not burnt or undercooked like it sometimes might happen with me. Their sausages are rich on flavor and tender and definitely will satisfy anyone taste. And I'm also pleased with their customer service and attitude. I was greeted well and it didn't take much time to get my food ready especially when you were quite busy. Staff knows their stuff and does everything quickly and with a professional attitude. And I was pleasantly surprised they were strictly followed all quarantine guidelines and took all necessary measures to prevent from spreading COVID-2019. Definitely gonna be back here soon.

Nice place to visit. It might not look like much from the outside but it's definitely worth visiting. Last week I stopped by and ordered smoked polish sausage and french fries for myself and it was delicious. It smelled so good and flavor was amazing. Customer service was nice as well. Man working on counter suggested me a lot of stuff to pick but I was determined to try polish sausage and I wasn't wrong with that. I also shared my food with a friend of mine and he was pleasantly surprised. If course it's not my last visit definitely gonna hit the spot one more time in near future and It would be great to get an opportunity to dine in with my close friends. Anyway these sausages stole my heart and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who had such a great experience.

Hot sausage reminded me of Hot links and Bratwurst...great on the grill

Went here after watching the Chicagos Best episode and let's start by saying it's a no frills sausage spot . Read the reviews but I was not deterred I needed to try the sausage for myself . I am a huge fan of hot links and bratwurst and the sausage at this place does not disappoint. The sausage is a must try along with other items this place sells . The person was helpful with my purchase and I will definitely return ... the bratwurst reminded me of the sausage I ordered by the box from Wisconsin ( great on the grill)

Wow, this place was a hidden gem. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but they have quite a variety of smoked meats and sausages (Serbian, Polish, Italian), plus over a dozen menu options if you choose to "dine in". They have a very clean small dining area with checkered tablecloths and maybe 3-4 tables. There was a reach in cooler with vacuum sealed packs of sausage, meats, and cheeses. At the deli counter there was a a variety of dried sausage, fresh sausage, cheeses, pastries, and prepared foods like stuffed peppers, stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes, and marinated red peppers. Not a huge selection, but modest and high quality. A small heated case held 3 varieties of burek pastry, meat, cheese, and spinach filled. A frozen case had a few varieties of homemade pierogis and kajmak. There was a small shelf of dry goods with pickles, chocolate, and a few other items, maybe a couple dozen. Service was friendly and helpful, the lady working the counter was nice and offered recommendations and substitutions for things I asked about. It was a great experience and I hope to return again soon.

"Food is a central activity of mankind and one of the single most significant trademarks of a…read moreculture." Mark Kurlansky It is my mission while I am residing in the northwest Chicago suburbs to submerse myself in the cultural treasure trove around me and experience as much as I can, as fast as I can. Finding the best and most authentic international groceries (and conversing with the owners and patrons inside) is one of the best means to do this, I have found. On my way to Assi (a Korean grocery), I saw the Zander Import Groceries sign with the curious winged lion. "Another time," I thought. But, it ate at me while I was shopping at Assi. So, I read a few Yelp reviews in the parking lot and decided to endure the six o'clock traffic on Milwaukee Ave and drive back there. The reviews said bread and pickles, try the bread and pickles. That was the mission. I believe it not chance that Zander was grinding fresh Turkish Coffee beans for another customer as I walked in. The smell was inviting and immediately perked me up. Now I know I'll come back when I have coffee drinking guests to entertain. There are plenty of good Indian, Pakistani, and Persian stores within a few miles of Zander Import Groceries, but Zander earns his relevance due to certain specific Assyrian goods he offers. The breads are acquired from bakeries in Skokie and Chicago, and the quality is good. The lavash was particularly nice, but the heavily floured crust left me wanting some of that coffee to wash it down. The Assyrian bread had a great bite and reminded me of a doughnut without sugar. (Does that make sense?) A kind gentleman patron directed me to a spicy homemade pickle of cabbage, carrot, and spices. I must say, it was delicious and I hope my husband loves it as much as I do. Zander also had some imported pickles and olives which looked fascinating. There were other staples, too, as you can see from my photos. This shop is definitely needed and earns its place with some unique offerings. I enjoyed my pickles and bread, and will have what is left of them to accompany an eggplant dish I am making tomorrow night. Brittney Tun Food Writer and Culinary Enthusiast

It came as a great recommendation! We didn't have it for a while since we live the low-carb life but were thrilled to learn they do a "sub in a tub". I love their tuna salad/sub. Their bread is soft, back when I could eat it. They don't overfill it with mayo either and add some mild peppers or hot on request. I like that they don't have onions at the deli so it doesn't overpower everything else. My husband typically loves the club. They rolled a generous amount into a container and I used scissors to quickly and easily cut it. It was a perfect lunch and I have enough for another tomorrow! For $8, or $11 for a generous tuna scoop, you can't beat it. Staff is also quick and friendly at the deli, as well as checkout. You can find all kinds of things for the house or to gift someone whether it's food, a cookie jar, something imported from Italy, or a homemade meal. You'll find something for everyone.

Well, this is an update to the review I made 4 years ago. Today was a better experience all around…read more We arrived around 2pm and it was not crowded at all. They added an enclosed outdoor seating area, Thats lets you enjoy the breeze or sun, but protects you from the rain. It used to be a tent, so this is definitely nicer. My wife and I were seated immediately. The server quickly brought us water and garlic bread. I really like that they give you 5 fairly big pieces of garlic bread for only two people. Nice touch. We were not in a hurry and couldn't decide what we wanted so we started with the calamari salad. $29, but it's huge and chock full of those calamari guys. Lettuce is always crisp and has everything I like in it (olives, eggs, carrots, artichoke, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and romaine lettuce). We were almost full just from the salad alone. I ordered a grouper sandwich (not fried), and my lovely wife ordered the Scottish salmon plate, which comes with potatoes and grilled vegetables. My sandwich came with coleslaw and fresh cut fries. They switched to fresh cut since my last visit, and this was an upgrade. My sandwich was great, and huge too. Could not finish it. Wife's meal was a humongous slab of salmon. The veggies now come on a smaller plate, but that's okay, given the size of the fish. Service was a tad slow, but like I said, we weren't in any hurry. Total tab was $100, with tax and that pesky 3% service fee. I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. It's not a place I can go every week, but when I can splurge, and have a taste for fresh seafood, this is the best around.
