Cioppino
Nerina B.

Ambience is welcoming. They have a huge room, with metal tables and chairs. The server was very nice. The food was very good. We ordered the Cioppino it's a platter filled with mussels, clams, crab legs, and shrimp. It's great! The lobster bisque soup was ok. It was lukewarm and not hot enough. I think if it was nice and hot the soup would have been better. Kind of disappointed, since I was looking forward to a nice hot soup especially in a cold winter night. The lamb was good. We asked for it to be cooked medium, however it was more to the medium well side. The lamb was good, but it would have been better if it was medium. The Branzino was great. Had a nice flavor and it was moist and tasty.

Outside patio. We were there during the day but I bet it's beautiful with the party lights on at night.

Absolutely outstanding!!!! Service was excellent. Food was excellent. I had Cajun catfish with rice, grilled vegetables and potatoes. My husband had fried catfish with fries and coleslaw. We had 2 baskets of delicious bread. We are already planning on going back! We sat outside with a great breeze on the beautiful side patio. Honestly we couldn't get over how fresh and delicious everything was. We were stuffed and still have enough leftovers for 2 meals for tomorrow.

3rd time coming here with friends and it never disappoint. The only disappointment I had is the bread. When I came couple years ago, the bread was fluffy and soft but this time, the bread was hard and chewy. The service is quick and the vibe is chill. We came during late lunch and it was pretty empty but we always make reservations before coming here. Ordered the Cajun shrimp and the grilled octopus and it was delicious. You can definitely do family style here.

Absolutely unbelievable probably the best salad I've ever had cozy environment off the beaten path location. Excellent Service loved every minute of it.

I dropped back in here to pick up a grilled grouper sandwich for the wife. The sandwich with fries is $25.99, so as always, it's pricey here, but the quality is also tip-top excellent. The pretzel bread for the sandwich was also super fresh as was the grouper. There's a 3% credit card fee these days fyi. I guess it's been over 2 years since I last step foot in here because they now have a permanently covered patio and it's a nice, airy, and comfortable setup and they now finally have comfortable seating for their usual big crowds here. It was completed 2 years ago I was told. Still a great business to have in our neighborhood.

First, the fried catfish and shrimp were delicious. Even the coleslaw was good. I was super disappointed that the fries tasted horrible. They were limp and soggy. I purchased a carryout order. It was only a 15 min drive. I don't know if they need to pack the food differently for the fries. Everything else was great!

Huge portions, decent value, but under seasoned. I used to love Boston Fish Market, was great for portions and value. But the prices have definitely crept up. Still good value since the portions are huge, but I think the seasoning could use some work. Had the fisherman's platter which was an assortment of fried fish, smelt, perch, walleye and tonnes of fries. But the problem was that the fish was under seasoned (no salt). The lemons helped a little a long with the sauce, but I feel it could have used more seasoning. Frankly not the worst thing (lower sodium), but with fried food, the right salt is essential. Had a good amount leftover and it crisped really nicely in the air fryer. I'll still come back for a special seafood experience but the aura of the Boston Fish is waning for me.

Amazing vibes, view, service, food! It was super pretty and the portions were huge! I loved the patio seating!

This is my third time dining here and I will surely be back. This place has the best seafood! This visit we started off with the Oyster Rockefeller, Cesar Salad and Saganaki for appetizers. I really enjoyed the Parmesan Horseradish crusted Salmon. My children had the Fettuccine Alfredo Jumbo Shrimp pasta which they enjoyed. We had a fried shrimp dinner, Fisherman Platter and a few other dishes which everyone loved. The service was great too! Unfortunately the menu had an option to add peppercorn on your steak which my husband ordered for his Ribeye and turns out that was no longer an option which we found out after receiving the food. That was the only downside to the meal. I am glad they added the enclosure that allows for dining in any weather; great investment!

Garlic Bread

We started with the saganaki and clam chowder both were delicious. For our main, we shared the cioppino. It was amazing. The service was excellent. It's kind of weird that you're eating on basically patio furniture, but We will definitely come back.

The food seemed over priced. Portions were decent. I found it comparable to Cullver's fish dinner.

Boston Fish Market Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Boston Fish Market

Is a reservation necessary due to being so busy?

Not necessary, but highly recommended

Are you open Thanksgiving 2022?

Is the clam chowder gluten-free? If not, any other soup dish?

Is there outdoor seating for cold weather (tarp/heaters/etc)?

Not when we were there this past Friday (9/25). They did have the inside tables reduced to seating for 6 each, and set 6 feet apart from each other.

How can the Seafood Gumbo be $52? What am I missing?

As a longtime customer so many of the reviews here make me cringe. Usually something like "prices are so high and portions are really huge." Prices are, in fact, fair for the…

Can we do carry out for prepared foods?

Yes

Is it BYOB?

Yes, with a reasonable $10/bottle corkage. They are strict about the corkage fee and you have to declare the bottles before you sit down

If you go to Boston Fish Market with only 2 people...what are the best things to order without having way too much food?

Octopus. One pound but perfect for sharing. The snapper is a nice size and the sides make it good enough to share. Either way, whatever you get, it's good for a couple of meals and leftovers taste amazing. So enjoy, i love this place.

Is your new location in wheeling open yet?

Yes!

Is this BYOB?

They sell their own wine, but menu says there is a $10 corkage fee implying it's ok to bring in your own bottle(s) also.

Can I bring my small dog to the outdoor patio area?

If your dog is a service dog you can bring it anywhere you go, it’s the law.. if not, you can’t. Truly, go somewhere else, you’ll save big$$&

When is the Wheeling location going to open?

New sign says Fall 2018...

Are any of their items gluten-free?

Yes, most of the items NOT breaded are GF; enjoy!

Do the have crab and/or lobster?

Sure do! See their menu here> http://www.bostonfishmkt.com/images/menu.pdf

Does anyone know what happened to their planned Wheeling location? The latest news I could find said "late summer 2017". Did they do a soft open? Or did they shelve the idea? I can't see how they could afford to pay rent and wages for this long...

New sign says Fall 2018.

Where can I find information on holiday hours?

Check their website order Facebook page. You can always send an email if you don't mind it.

Is it still byob? ? I heard they have a corkage charge now. If true. What do they charge?

Yes 10 dollars

Do they serve sashimi?

No.

It says no credit cards in the Yelp info. Is that correct that it's cash only?

No, they take credit cards.

Now that the weather is colder, is the area inside the only seating option?

There is the heated tent on the side.. its pretty warm.. but if there is a long lone.. like we had the last time, we stood outside in the freezing weather

I enjoyed the lobster roll very much. What appears as a small sandwich is densely packed with goodness. The fried shrimp was also excellent. The tables are well stocked with condiments, including hot sauces. The service is excellent, and they have an obviously steady crew, working an excellent system for taking care of their customers. Everyone was smiling and polite. The lady that took care of me was knowledgeable, answering all my rookie questions. The menu is extensive, and I found the pricing reasonable. Gumbo was good, with a good roux, but slightly sweet and no real spice to it. It had plenty of shrimp, and I got a couple of meals out of it. If I were in New Orleans, it would probably receive a low score, but by Chicago standards, it is good. They used okra in their gumbo, which some may consider sacrilege. However, it was properly prepared, and I like okra, so I approve. Their jambalaya and fried rice were approved of by others in the family. Overall, good food and good value. If it weren't for my gout, I'd be eating here a lot more often.

We tried the Boston Fish Market for my birthday dinner this year, and had a pretty good experience…read more It was on a Wednesday and the restaurant was not busy. We were seated promptly in the formal dining room which was nicely decorated. Our semi-circular booth was spacious and comfortable. There were different sections in the restaurant that were more casual, tailored to the different tastes of the clients. Overall, food was delicious and portions were huge. I had a Boston Clam Chowder and a Gulf Grouper as the main. I would usually order a salad, but I didn't this time as each entrée came with a large plate of homemade roasted vegetables and wild rice. The Boston Clam Chowder had real pieces of clams in it. However, it was just lukewarm. My grouper looked great and tasted flavorful, but it was somewhat over-cooked (and therefore not tender), which was unfortunate. My wife had a bowl of Lobster Bisque and an order of Stuffed Flounder that had crabmeat sandwiched in the fish. She absolutely loved her choices. Our daughter had a Charbroiled Walleye and liked it too. Her only disappointment was the garlic bread being hard and dry. Our daughter and I each had a Chardonnay Stags Leap which was good, while my wife had a Virgin Mojito and truly enjoyed it. Surprisingly, the highlight of the night was the slice of tiramisu that our friendly and professional server Greg brought to me! It had a lit candle for my birthday, and Greg teamed up with two other waitresses enthusiastically sang me a happy birthday song! The tiramisu was excellent, creamy and not too sweet. I am not a dessert person but really appreciated this. I have a suggestion for the restaurant: as the portions were so large and each of us brought home half of it, it would have been nice that they make the portion 40% to 50% smaller, and lower the average price of $40 per entrée accordingly. It might help attract more customers. Just my two cents. All in all, I had a lovely birthday dinner at Boston Fish Market. Ambience was good, and service was outstanding. We will certainly return again.

Family owned and like many others have stated, they treat you like family. Immediately upon walking in, I was greeted by a butcher who was more than helpful and kind. My husband and I are on a new health journey so I've often times asked MANY questions and he was patient and helpful with every answer. Even with him knowing I didn't have cash and had to leave and come back. Needed some quality burgers and brats for a friend's grilling birthday bash. Picked up beer brats upon recommendation (and a crowd favorite), Mediterranean turkey burgers (super good and I enjoyed them more than my husband did if I'm to be honest), prime rib burgers (currently vacuum sealed in the freezer), skin on hot dogs (best ever), cheddar and jalapeño burger (another fave!), and maybe a couple others I can't recall. Everything so far- fresh and from what I've frozen, has been delicious. We typically shop at Paulina Market so it's been wonderful to find a shop closer at the same level (in our opinion).
