We've been coming here for my mom's birthday every year for the past 3 years now because it's one of her favorite place. However this most recent time we went, it was super disappointing. I personally am not as big on seafood as she is. But I'm always so excited for the clam chowder and the fettuccine alfredo. Our clam chowder came out and it was room temp. It also had this strange sour flavor. We get this every time so I know it's not supposed to taste like that. We ordered the Fisherman's Platter because we wanted to try something new (we normally order the ZUPPA DI PESCE). Please tell me why after a small bite of the perch my WHOLE mouth was coated in fish scale? I've informed the server but he told me that's how it's supposed to be. I'm sorry but I've never been to a restaurant that served me fish scale and expect me to eat it. After that, I was disgusted. I was picking scales out of my mouth for the remainder of the night. A positive note: the alfredo was still very good!

Probably an unpopular opinion but a solid three all around. That could be because we came on a busy night (Valentine's Day) and/or didn't order all the right things. Either way, I'll give them another shot and try again. Upon arriving on a Saturday night, the place is PACKED. We made a reservation and were asked to wait in line. No biggie, got seated somewhat quickly regardless. Before I sound like a snob, I make reservations because my mom is disabled and can't stand. It's not walker or wheelchair friendly so glad we left that all at home. We got seated against the window squished between other tables. In a spot where we quickly went unnoticed, sadly. So far away that we communicated to our waiter via hand signals LOL it was our first time and he didn't take a moment to explain anything about the large menu. I wanted a lemony salmon and ended up with a halibut vesuvio large enough for 3-4 people! My dad somehow ended up with a lemony salmon we could have shared as well. The dishes were tasty and family style. My husband got George's scallops and it was the only decent portion for one lol. My mom got shrimp scampi and it was huge! Never seen plates so large. We also shared the Louisiana Oysters and I would pass on them next time. Maybe to try the Rockefeller. The bill came to $266 for four meals, an app and two beers. No dessert or coffee. I thought looking at the menu four times before arriving would help but nothing prepared me for how busy this place was going to be!

Boston Fish Market in Des Plaines is absolutely worth the trip. The service was great, the menu was beautiful, and everything we tried tasted incredibly fresh. It's also a fantastic spot for groups, with plenty of options that make sharing easy. Overall, a great seafood experience and definitely somewhere I'd return to.

Ambience is welcoming. They have a huge room, with metal tables and chairs. The server was very nice. The food was very good. We ordered the Cioppino it's a platter filled with mussels, clams, crab legs, and shrimp. It's great! The lobster bisque soup was ok. It was lukewarm and not hot enough. I think if it was nice and hot the soup would have been better. Kind of disappointed, since I was looking forward to a nice hot soup especially in a cold winter night. The lamb was good. We asked for it to be cooked medium, however it was more to the medium well side. The lamb was good, but it would have been better if it was medium. The Branzino was great. Had a nice flavor and it was moist and tasty.

3rd time coming here with friends and it never disappoint. The only disappointment I had is the bread. When I came couple years ago, the bread was fluffy and soft but this time, the bread was hard and chewy. The service is quick and the vibe is chill. We came during late lunch and it was pretty empty but we always make reservations before coming here. Ordered the Cajun shrimp and the grilled octopus and it was delicious. You can definitely do family style here.

I dropped back in here to pick up a grilled grouper sandwich for the wife. The sandwich with fries is $25.99, so as always, it's pricey here, but the quality is also tip-top excellent. The pretzel bread for the sandwich was also super fresh as was the grouper. There's a 3% credit card fee these days fyi. I guess it's been over 2 years since I last step foot in here because they now have a permanently covered patio and it's a nice, airy, and comfortable setup and they now finally have comfortable seating for their usual big crowds here. It was completed 2 years ago I was told. Still a great business to have in our neighborhood.

Outside patio. We were there during the day but I bet it's beautiful with the party lights on at night.

Absolutely outstanding!!!! Service was excellent. Food was excellent. I had Cajun catfish with rice, grilled vegetables and potatoes. My husband had fried catfish with fries and coleslaw. We had 2 baskets of delicious bread. We are already planning on going back! We sat outside with a great breeze on the beautiful side patio. Honestly we couldn't get over how fresh and delicious everything was. We were stuffed and still have enough leftovers for 2 meals for tomorrow.

First, the fried catfish and shrimp were delicious. Even the coleslaw was good. I was super disappointed that the fries tasted horrible. They were limp and soggy. I purchased a carryout order. It was only a 15 min drive. I don't know if they need to pack the food differently for the fries. Everything else was great!

Huge portions, decent value, but under seasoned. I used to love Boston Fish Market, was great for portions and value. But the prices have definitely crept up. Still good value since the portions are huge, but I think the seasoning could use some work. Had the fisherman's platter which was an assortment of fried fish, smelt, perch, walleye and tonnes of fries. But the problem was that the fish was under seasoned (no salt). The lemons helped a little a long with the sauce, but I feel it could have used more seasoning. Frankly not the worst thing (lower sodium), but with fried food, the right salt is essential. Had a good amount leftover and it crisped really nicely in the air fryer. I'll still come back for a special seafood experience but the aura of the Boston Fish is waning for me.

    AMAZING

Is there outdoor seating for cold weather (tarp/heaters/etc)?

Not when we were there this past Friday (9/25). They did have the inside tables reduced to seating for 6 each, and set 6 feet apart from each other.

Yes, with a reasonable $10/bottle corkage. They are strict about the corkage fee and you have to declare the bottles before you sit down

If you go to Boston Fish Market with only 2 people...what are the best things to order without having way too much food?

Octopus. One pound but perfect for sharing. The snapper is a nice size and the sides make it good enough to share. Either way, whatever you get, it's good for a couple of meals and leftovers taste amazing. So enjoy, i love this place.

Is your new location in wheeling open yet?

    Yes!

    Is this BYOB?

They sell their own wine, but menu says there is a $10 corkage fee implying it's ok to bring in your own bottle(s) also.

If your dog is a service dog you can bring it anywhere you go, it’s the law.. if not, you can’t. Truly, go somewhere else, you’ll save big$$&

Where can I find information on holiday hours?

Check their website order Facebook page. You can always send an email if you don't mind it.

Is it still byob? ? I heard they have a corkage charge now. If true. What do they charge?

    Yes 10 dollars

    Do they serve sashimi?

    No.

It says no credit cards in the Yelp info. Is that correct that it's cash only?

    No, they take credit cards.

The price to value seemed very imbalanced and this is coming from someone who is quite accustomed to city prices. The menu is huge, IMO too big. It would be great if they trimmed it down to do fewer things flawlessly. This place is great for big groups, the room we were seated in is built for parties of 8+. We started out with the garlic bread on our table and ordered the appetizer platter. The platter was fine, but the addition of guac was odd and it wasn't very good. I ordered the lobster roll and my husband the mahi. They only serve the lobster roll hot, but I generally prefer cold. The bun was a pretzel roll, which I didn't love. They should put the butter on the side, so the whole thing felt dry. They served it with tartar sauce, which was an interesting choice. Husband was unimpressed with his mahi. Service started off strong and then fell off a cliff. Our server was attentive when we needed to order and then absent through pretty much the rest of the meal. We asked a busboy for more water and someone went to find our server to get our check. Basic things like ketchup for fries wasn't even considered. Maybe the Des Plaines location is better, this one didn't live up to the hype or price.
