Against other eateries on a food-to-food basis, this is a three star, BUT, they don't have the acres of rock memorabilia and the fun wait staff that Hard Rock has. We travel quite a bit, and once a trip or so we get the urge for slightly more familiar food. The menu is the same for the most part, with a haggis add-on for the Scots but overall it's as American as rock-n-roll's roots, even if it was started in the UK and the Seminole Tribe owns the chain... Overall, a good experience with good company. However it was really, really busy, so with this and the (for some reason) overly loud music during the weekday evening we visited, meant it was pretty hard to have a decent conversation with others. Would recommend the restaurant switching the music down in future. Other than that though, the general atmosphere this restaurant is as you'd expect any Hard Rock to be! However, I'd say another vice that night which bothered me is that for some reason the waitress would continuously try to upsell on food/beverages. I ordered a cocktail and the waitress influenced me to upgrade. When the bill came, without my knowledge at the time, I was very shocked to see id spent an extra £7 on a drink. If I had known the cost when agreeing to upgrade, I doubt I'd have done it... regardless of them trying to soften the blow by offering me the cocktail glass for free after payment. read more

Just another Hard Rock Cafe and it's no better or worse than many of its contemporaries around the globe. It's set in a nice old bank building on George Street, but that's about as interesting as it gets when you're listening to Billy Joel and munching on your burger with curly fries. The best thing about this place is probably being able to come here for a late night (over-priced) cocktail. However, if you're coming to Edinburgh, do yourself a favour and go somewhere a bit more extravagant. I give it two stars because the staff are friendly, the location is good and they make nice cocktails. The rest is just rather dull without being offensive. read more

I have to say I was very dissapointed here, we waited an hour to be seated, whilst they were quite happy to sell us alcohol, we were then told they thought we had had enough because we had the giggles. I found the staff to be rude and quite different from what I have come to expect from this food chain who usually go out of the way to give good service. Found it strange how they didn't think we had had enough for the hour they were taking our money at the bar, and couldn't even be polite about it. I like the hard rock cafe. The food is great, there are always large portions. Its great for crowds of people for a party, wouldnt recommend it for a romantic meal though. The cocktails are also very good, and the prices are quite reasonable. They have a shop there which sells t-shirts, key rings etc also. but these things are rather pricy. The food is mainly burgers, nachos, american stuff. They have guitars up on the walls from famous people. read more

I went on Saturday for a late lunch. On the plus side the cocktails were good and the food was passable. But what I object to is the staff. Don't get me wrong the service isn't bad and they are not rude. On the contary. When I go out I dont want those who serve me to become my best friend, I don't want to tell them what I have bought whilst shopping. I dont want them to sit at my table to discuss my order. I really, really don't want them to poke me as thay walk by to and ask if everything is ok. I know that this is how they are trained and that they are asked to mimic the " friendly American way". However please remember that we are British and that we actually prefer the British stand offishness of our waiters and waitresses. Went to the Hard Rock Cafe today, not the kind of place I would normally go to but my friend has a young daughter so we where left with view options in the area.. I ordered a '' Legendary Burger'' and to my surprise it was much better than I had expected!! Children like it here and they have an interactive wall to keep the kids busy. Only negative was the constant upselling by the staff, i wush they would have left us alone a bit more.. Don't forget to order Onion rings!!! read more

Everything in here is pretty standard....typical American style, typical music-memorabilia, typical HUGE portions etc etc. I came here once having a hankering for a hamburger, but I found the layers and layers of meat, lettuce, cheese, bacon and bread too much to handle. I ordered the BBQ Burger but I couldn't eat half of it. The chips too, were all left on my plate. Ok, I admit it probably has something to do with the fact that I had cheese and coriander quesadilla to share with my friends to start with, but I only had 2 slices, and I was starving. I must admit though - the quesadilla was delicious. The burger...not so much. As I was munching my way through I kept thinking about my mum - if there was something that wasn't particularly tasty she would say to me 'it's not worth the calories Em!' , and she was right. Overall I wasn't impressed with my burger, but the quesadilla was amazing. The entire time I was there, more and more people came in (particularly, and somewhat ironically, mostly American tourists) and all ordered ribs and wings. I only went once in this edinburgh hard rock cafè! i was having a trip with my family around north Scotland when we stopped by edinburgh and decided to have lunch to this famous restaurant! As soon as we put our feet into it the staff was very kind and when we sat at the table we started order. I had a caesar salad which was the best i ever had. Broke all my rules coming here. Usually avoid chains and especially avoid American chains abroad. But it was cold and rainy in Edinburgh in December (what a surprise!), and I was on a mission to buy a friend a Hard Rock Edinburgh T shirt, so I thought I'd check it out. Given the limited and simplistic menu, and the prices, one would hope they'd go the extra mile to make their simple food special. Nope. To their credit, the hamburger bun was toasted brioche and the hamburger came out hot. The mushrooms were nicely sautéed. However the hamburger was rock hard (methinks machine formed and not enough fat) and cooked well, not medium well as the menu indicated. The Swiss cheese was slapped on and not even melted, making the whole thing fail to gel. The Parmesan fries for a pound extra just had some commercial pre-shredded parmesan dumped on them. Served with plain mayonnaise when a garlic aioli would have been so much better. Edible but with so many great bistros in Georges St, a complete waste of calories. read more

I have been to a few Hard Rock Cafe in the States and elsewhere. However, this is by far the worse when it comes to food. The atmosphere and music are about the same as every other Hard Rock Cafe everywhere. Great waitresses / waiter with great personalities & awesome music as always. But the main course here is just not up to scratch. I came here on 2 separate occasions and I had a big plate of Nachos to share for starters which was great. However, when it came to main course, I found my burger meat very dry and tough. I stopped eating halfway through. It was the same last time when I came here for the ribs. Again they were quite dry and only ate halfway through as it was unpleasant to eat really dry meat. Our burgers came straight after they took away our empty Nacho plate so maybe timing need to be adjusted a little as it gives the impression that our food has been long cooked waiting at the counter for us to finish our starters. I think they need to get back to basics and ensure the meat are properly cooked to juicy succulent standard. Lebowskis and Holyrood 9A have better burgers. read more

I got there on a quiet Monday afternoon, in "hungry" mode and was welcomed by a very friendly & chatty front of house dude who guide to my table. My server Theresa was cool, professional & efficient, she was the only waitress on the floor at time of the day looking after 5 more tables. I ordered the Santa Fe Spring Rolls stuffed with spinach, black beans, cilantro, corn, jalapeños, diced red peppers and jack cheese + crispy tortilla straws with a side of Hard Rock salsa and guacamole-chipotle ranch dressing . Starter did the trick as it was a crispy, tasty and abundant portion to placate my momentarily ravenous demons. As a main course I ordered a Top Sirloin Steak medium rare, a cut which in principle was OK, but not properly seared, probably because the grill was not hot enough (should be, for my personal taste, at least 260ºC or more) giving the inside of it the texture and flavour of "boiled meat" rather than grilled. Meal was washed down with a couple of pints of Becks Vier at £ 3.80 each..still under the 4 quid mark...what a pleasant surprise... All in all a positive experience, place is baby & family friendly, WiFi is available....and the ubiquitous TV plasma screens showing, yeah... you guess it R & R videos. Enjoy your meal! read more

This restaurant is likely one of the loudest on George Street. It is always bustling and the staff wear the shortest of shorts! I love it here as you always get consistency with your food and drink which can be so rare in restaurants. The prices are a little above average but nothing out of the ordinary for George Street. I think the main problem with the Har dRock cafe is that it hasn't evolved over the years. It still has this very eighties feel but not in a retro tongue in cheek kind of way, it actually means it. I know it was probably a huge kick to go there when it opened but it just does not live up to expecations or the prices it charges for its food. You get a really basic plate of nachos or a club sandwich for about £8 and you can't help feeling that you would have been better off staying at home and making your own. read more

I have friends who are devotees of this restaurant, but to me the food is very overpriced for what it is; standard 'American' fare. Really, the menu choices are fairly uninspiring. On the plus side the cocktails are grand but if you're going to spend £6-£7 on a brightly coloured fruity alcoholic drink on George Street then you're better wandering to a custom built cocktail bar such as Candy or Tonic. read more

Although this establishment is definitely on the pricey side beware of the service charge! It is definitely worth a visit if you've never been. The atmosphere is great, the food is delicious and served in large portions and the cocktails are brightly coloured and inventive. What more could you ask for? Actually, on that note they're not particularly good at checking the toilets before they close up. A friend of mine once went in to use the toilet and fell asleep, when she woke up she was trapped inside as they had locked up for the night! Thankfully a few phone calls later she was let out, but just be careful to stay conscious in the toilets :P read more

Visited a week ago with friends and kids. As a party of eight we were seated quickly and service was very good and staff friendly. Staff very switched on to our need for gluten free options for my daughter and couldn't have been more helpful. I opted for the BBQ combo trio which comprised ribs, chicken and pulled pork. This was superb with a good smoke flavour rather than just being drenched in BBQ sauce. Our party had a selection of burgers and pulled pork sandwiches and all thoroughly enjoyed their choice. I would really love to know what happened to this place. When I was younger, the staff were helpful and funny, and the food was excellent. I have come here ever since I was 16 every year for my birthday. But this year for my 19th, the service was terrible. The woman on the phone said she was going to put a request for my booking through immediately (it was during the Fringe) when every other year they said they would just book it cos it would probably be okay. 3 days later. She still hadn't confirmed it when I went in to make sure we were booked in cos I would have to go elsewhere and notify all 13 of my guests. However, after much faffing about, we got booked in. On the night of my birthday, although I had a table booked, we had to wait 40 MINUTES to be seated. The food was really good though, but two of my friends said that the staff who brought the food were rude. To top off a crappy dinner, the card machine was not working so loads of us had to go out to the cash machine across the road to take money out. All in all, the service was rubbish this year but had been excellent all the other years, and the food was exceptional as always. read more

Our waitress Emily was an absolute delight and very attentive, spotting my nearly empty Guinness and offering a refil ahead of time. I have always loved the Hard Rock Cafe concept and wanted to take my kids there, but having previously visited those in London and Orlando, Edinburgh somewhat paled in comparison. Some of the memorabilia is amusingly bargain basement - Gidget Gein's bass, a White Zombie guitar! That said it has a fun atmosphere and you can let your hair down there. Amazing, amazing, amazing! We visited Hard Rock Cafe Edinburgh for a friends birthday and the food was incredible, we had the jumbo combo to start with and it was like nothing we have had ever before, very delicious. Our main courses were yummy and they even sang "Happy Birthday" for my friend and they received a lovely birthday dessert. All the staff went above and beyond to make our visit really special, we can't wait for our next trip to Hard Rock Cafe Edinburgh. read more
