The name caught our eye. Plus we were on a girls trip and a girls trip requires wine tasting. We all ordered the tasting. We had five wines. Two whites and three reds. My favorite was the Pinot, but all the wines were pretty good. I'm not a big Chardonnay fan, but this one was OK. The tasting room is cute. What a fun little spot in downtown Leavenworth! Hard Row to Hoe has all the cheeky charm of their Chelan winery but in a cozy, mountain-town tasting room. The staff were super friendly and made the whole experience relaxed and easy. The wines were honestly fantastic, and I loved finding out that the wines come from an organic vineyard that's committed to sustainable farming and that they are even Salmon-Safe certified to protect the watershed around Lake Chelan. Disclosure: I tend to prefer lighter, sweeter, dry wines, mostly whites and rosés, so none of the vintages did much for me, and as a result, this review may come off a bit less enthusiastic than HRTH deserves. However, I never knock down a place's review based on my finicky palate, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. Without further ado... Reminiscent of the winery formerly known as Naked (now Evoke), Hard Row to Hoe has embraced a snarky, sexy theme that pervades all of its blends and vintages, tramp-stamped on its menu like a lipstick stain, and I mean that in a good way! This evocative tasting room, located in a basement studio on Front Street, tempts you to penetrate into its depths, to discover a sultry array of (mostly) sanguine solutions with sobriquets that would make the even most progressive sommelier blush! Similarly, and in line with their pervasive crimson color scheme, most of the blends here are various combinations of reds. Of the ten wines that constitute the two flights offered on their tasting menu, 9/10 are red, and they become progressively darker, both in form and function. The final offering in our flight, the 2018 Cabernet Franc, was described by my wife as "a headache in a glass". It was the least favored of the five, with the table's vote going to the middle contender, the Double Dip Red Blend. People who go gaga for reds, and the darker the better, will find the climax of the tasting flight truly orgasmic, I'm sure! Also, it is important to note that even the staff admitted that most of the blends are better experienced when paired with food and meals, as opposed to cold taste testing. Despite my personal preferences, Hard Row to Hoe is unquestionably a classy, quality vintner, running a sophisticated and sexy operation. And they taught me something about myself during this visit: if a visit to HRTH is like spending a romantic evening with expensive, high-class escort, apparently I prefer the company of...less reputable "women of the night". This revelation is worrisome, and requires some personal reflection on my part, I think! read more

Wandered in at 10 to noon... so we were the first ppl of the day haha. I wanted a head start tasting all the wines! Out of the 4 of us... I got the tasting flight, I had them try some but my friend likes sweet whites and hubby doesn't like wine at all. Overall I enjoyed the reds the best. Person serving us was attentive and helpful as well as explaining the wine. Much better experience than what I had from another "classic" tasting room. read more

Such a Hidden Gem! I wandered into this seriously groovy tasting room in the middle of Leavenworth, WA, while killing time before a conference I was attending, and I AM SO HAPPY I DID! Now, I am from Napa area, so the Leavenworth wines were a little fruity for me (although very good still, just not my taste), but this place had all the best wines! There was not a single one I tasted that wasn't purchase-worthy! Upon entering, you will notice the risque decor - ask the pourers the story of the name! They are very knowledgeable and the history (as well as the names of the wines) are super fun! I ended up purchasing the "Good in Bed" sparkling pinot, but also left with a wine club pamphlet ;) I will definitely be back here, and probably as a member. Take my money, delicious wine! Really hard to write this review, considering we LOVE the Chelan winery. Arrived on a Sunday. According to the door, they were open 1.5 hours longer. According to staff, they closed in 20 minutes. Fine. We would have gladly sampled a couple quick glasses and bought one or two bottles. Wasn't even an option. Please don't mansplain to us how busy and crazy things have been during COVID. Some of their was delicious, but others did not smell or taste very good. Their staff is very nice but they didn't really provide much information about the wine and they seemed rushed.
