No matter if it is just a drive through on a beautiful fall or Spring day or if you visit the rose garden for a concert in the summer or visit mid-winter then the whole place turns white, this place is beautiful! I have some of my earliest memories as a child going to Mill Creek park and renting a boat on the lake. My Grandfather used to take me golfing with him on the golf course. We would have a wonderful time at this beautiful park. No matter where you enter the park, Boardmen, Austintown, Struthers or where ever you are sure to see beautiful trees, tons of hiking trails, the rivers and lakes that run through the middle and some beautiful birds, animal's, and other creatures throughout this park. The nature trails are some of my favorite and on a beautiful fall day there is nothing like going through this park with the leaves changing colors and falling from the trees, the air is crisp and you have cold mornings and warm afternoons. This park is so special to me, I have been here for birthday parties, weddings and even some funerals or celebration of life ceremonies. Certain places inside the park you can get some great view of downtown Youngstown. I wish I could have seen Youngstown in its hayday when the steel mills were working! No matter the reason you go to Mill Creek Park, I am sure you will have a wonderful trip. It has been a few years now since I have made it back to Youngstown, but when I go back, I know I will end up in this beautiful park!

There are several entrances to drive in and exit from. Plus it is all free! If highly recommend just taking a little drive in the morning to check out all the park has to offer.

Visited this state park for the first time earlier this month and had a blast!…read more I parked at what I think is the main lot, up above the mill itself. I didn't take a tour of the mill (which the park volunteers and staff do offer throughout the day) but I did walk through it and read the information in it about the history of the mill. Definitely enjoyed exploring and learning. That said, I was really there for the trails, so I spent most of my day hiking. I took a loop trail down from the mill and back (with a detour up a short trail to some falls) and it was great! I love being outside and I love a good challenge; these trails were not paved or even at all and I had a great workout navigating them. During hydration breaks I'd find a nice rock to sit on by the water, which was wonderful. It was noisy as heck by the mill because of the families, but the further out I got the more peaceful it got. Definitely met my goal of unplugging for a day during my trek on the trails. I want to come back in the future and begin to try to walk the Slippery Gorge Trail, as it sounds like the gorge is another beautiful part of the park. But that is definitely a long term goal, because that trail is not a short one! I loved visiting this park and I'd be back for sure. To everyone else, PLEASE remember water and wear the proper footwear - while I enjoyed my walk in the park, these trails are definitely not a walk in the park!

For a small town, and an older park was quite impressed on how clean it was and the emmenties that were provided with each shelter. I'm not sure on if all the shelters were the same; but Shelter 4, had enough picnic benches to accomate small or large parties. The shelter itself; was amazing two working fridges, a sink, bathroom and even a counter space area. The shutter wood latch and enclosure of the actual shelter stood out the most for me. The picnic was a wonderful event; and even the area local news stoper by to hilight, Ann Curtin..Happy 100th Birthday...relaxing, celebration happy to have attended and been invited. It is a smooth 50 minute drive from downtown Cleveland. Taking 422 most of the way there with back roads the remainder. I was there in know time doing the speed limit. There are a few locations to pull off I noticed. So make sure you choose the Nelson Kennedy Ledges state park for gps. Have walking tennis shoes or boots on. Do not wear flip flops. The trail can be a challenge in anything else. You will fall in love with the beauty of nature. And of course the glass bridge is something that is amazing. I throughly enjoyed it and am already planning it trip back next month. Get there. You'll be glad that you listened and went.

There are a number of marked paths through the ledges, plus there are even more side trails and ways to experience the wonders of nature. There are 2 waterfalls, one big one at the North end of the park and a second shorter one near the South end. Of the 4 marked trails, the red trail is my favorite since it is the most challenging with some great rock scrambling. You want to be careful since there are some real cliffs and places where you can hurt yourself if you are not careful, but it also has more fun packed into it than any other park in the area. They have announced a new glass walkway over the Southern waterfall which I will have to get out and check soon. Go out and play.

I've been visiting this place for years and had met many kind, friendly and helpful fellow visitors. I cannot say the same for that ranger - I hope y'all never come across her in your effort to find clarity on directions. My favorite areas of Raccoon Creek are the beach and the mineral springs. When the area water levels aren't low, you'll also see a beautiful 10 foot waterfall adjacent to Frankfort Mineral Springs. The beach is lovely in all seasons, but if you can catch it during the peak of Fall foliage. The many colors of the trees reflecting from the lake surface is quite the sight! There's a boat rental and the rates are very reasonable. There's also a very large picnic area with dozens of tables, plenty of parking and restrooms.
