Being that I was born in Youngstown, Ohio my family and I have made the trip back to Y-town several dozen times over my 31 years and each time we have to visit Mill Creek Park. No matter if it is just a drive through on a beautiful fall or Spring day or if you visit the rose garden for a concert in the summer or visit mid-winter then the whole place turns white, this place is beautiful! I have some of my earliest memories as a child going to Mill Creek park and renting a boat on the lake. My Grandfather used to take me golfing with him on the golf course. We would have a wonderful time at this beautiful park. No matter where you enter the park, Boardmen, Austintown, Struthers or where ever you are sure to see beautiful trees, tons of hiking trails, the rivers and lakes that run through the middle and some beautiful birds, animal's, and other creatures throughout this park. The nature trails are some of my favorite and on a beautiful fall day there is nothing like going through this park with the leaves changing colors and falling from the trees, the air is crisp and you have cold mornings and warm afternoons. This park is so special to me, I have been here for birthday parties, weddings and even some funerals or celebration of life ceremonies. Certain places inside the park you can get some great view of downtown Youngstown. I wish I could have seen Youngstown in its hayday when the steel mills were working! No matter the reason you go to Mill Creek Park, I am sure you will have a wonderful trip. It has been a few years now since I have made it back to Youngstown, but when I go back, I know I will end up in this beautiful park! read more

This is the best park. So much to see and do including bike areas, kid ponds with turtles, gardens for weddings, and lots of water to kayak on. There are several entrances to drive in and exit from. Plus it is all free! If highly recommend just taking a little drive in the morning to check out all the park has to offer. read more

Amazing trails to run and an amazing playground for kids. Really clean restrooms everywhere.

So many things to explore! This place was I don't even know how many miles long but I know it was a long drive and my eyes could barely stay on the road . My children kept saying mom look Mom look because of how much there was to see if you like waterfalls in nature this place is definitely for you. It's very peaceful. Nobody bothers you. I did have a question about the castle that you seen in the photo if you can go inside of it and I asked a stranger and they were very friendly. You can explore the inside of the building. read more

I love Mill Creek park!! I live near the entrance on 224 and I love to drive to The Flats and hike the gorge trails. You can park then hike across the bridge and just at the end of the bridge take the trail on the left and hike that to the Mill then cross the creek. Then return to the flats on the opposite side of the creek via the other gorge trail. Beautiful any time of year! I really love it in the snow or after a hard rain when the waterfall at the mill is raging. read more

A great spot to come for a walk and enjoy nature. I really like how central this park is to the rest of town. This was a beautiful place to spend a morning during a trip to visit some family. We spent most of our time in the garden area; taking a leisurely stroll and admiring nature. The lawns are manicured and the place is very well-maintained. The roses and other flowers were just gorgeous and you can tell a lot of care goes into keeping everything so lush and colorful. I don't know how crowded it normally gets as this was midweek, but it seemed like we had the whole garden to ourselves. The fountains add a bit of bubbling life and there are a lot of benches to set yourself down to read or reflect. My son had a great time having a run of the place and exploring the plants and wildlife (ladybugs!). Winding through the park I noticed nice areas for picnics, a place for paddle-boats, spaces to rent for outdoor parties. I'll have to remember to come back to this place the next time we're in the area. read more

Surprised there aren't more reviews of this; but then, I've been going there for forty years and just thought to review it after my visit this weekend. Beautiful. Huge. Relaxing. Not much to add, really; what more do you want in a park? There are plenty of access points throughout town. The water varies from a narrow crick to a good-size lake. There are canoes; not sure how rental works. If I lived in Youngstown I'd go several times a week. With family in town, I stop by every time I visit. read more

Youngstown's hidden treasure! Beautiful any time of the year. Plenty of wild life, bike trails, hiking, fishing and many paved roads for biking. The old mill will always be a landmark, and the tours are definitely something to engage in, with plenty of history and knowledgeable people along with many unforgettable photographs from the past. May is a beautiful time to visit the Rosegarden along with daffodil hill. I grew up spending most of my life riding bikes and hanging out in the park, fishing and hiking 40+ years later I still take advantage of every chance I get to go there. read more

This place is so fun to go to and it has really great sites to see as well, its not as great as cuyahoga valley or hocking hills in any way but this place has the charm as the two. It has a wild factor, it gives history on the golden days of Youngstown or mahoning county all together actually. Seeing the old mills and reading the history and looking at the nature while taking in all the beauty is absolutely amazing. Definitely time for new leadership. Three deaths in the park in the last month and each one epitomizes an apparent lack of management abilities in specific areas: (1) no meaningful forest management plan, (2) no meaningful trail maintenance plan, and (3) no meaningful law enforcement plan. Add to this the park's arrogance to community input regarding a wholesale culling/killing of the park deer (very reminiscent of the time when they killed off dozens of geese without a thought). And, the park's avarice when it comes to desiring country farms and properties. I for one am absolutely sick and tired of reading about the near constant lawsuits, counter suits, appeals and Supreme Court appeals over the park's just plain arrogance in wanting to take other people's property. Don't even mention that we taxpayers are paying for all these lawsuits and appeals! But, far be it for me to say, the park's arrogance will continue. The board overseeing the park: ineffectual, not even in touch. Oversight of the park through the probate judge, more reminiscent of a rogue organization clearly out of touch, clearly out of control. Mahoning County has the worst ranked metropolitan parks in the state of ohio. But go ahead, enter the Mill Creek Metro Parks at your own risk! read more

Large park with lots of trails and plenty to do. I can think of half a dozen different playgrounds within the park just off the top of my head, a newer splash pad, and plenty of beautiful sights to see. If we didn't have to worry about water quality (of the lake and some streams) it would be perfect, but the park can't do much about that. read more

A hidden gem for the community. Fellows Riverside is a beautiful place for a wedding. My daughter was married in Kidston Pavilion in the rose garden June 21st with a reception at the Daniel Rossi auditorium in the lower level of the Davis Center following and it was perfect. read more

An absolute gem for the Mahoning Valley, I feel so grateful to have this beautiful park in the middle of our diverse city. I actually moved away and this was the one thing I missed the most. Every time I visit Youngstown I realize that I completely took MIll Creek Parks for granted while I still lived there. These parks are amazing and have so much to offer...and not every city has a park like this. My favorite part had to be the 1.5 mile stretch of paved walkway between Shields and 224. I always park on Shields because it has more parking available but if it's full there is always the 224 option and there are some businesses down the road that you could park at. I love this trail because it's traffic-free and and so many people out there doing what you are there for...running, walking, biking, rollerblading, etc. Pet friendly. Rain or shine, hot or cold, I visit every time I am in the area. read more

I can say with a high degree of certainty that this is Youngstown's finest asset. It sits on 4,000 acres, has dozens of miles of roads and hiking trails, three lakes, four major waterfalls, an amazing formal garden, plenty of party facilities, gorgeous bridges and other stone structures... What a beautiful relaxing place to go. Never been to this park. Moved to Ohio from Pa. in March and a friend took me to the part where all the flowers are. There were plants in never heard of. Gorgeous there!! The gazebo was beautiful and a very nice place to sit and reflect on your day. Can't believe how huge this park is! Great place for anybody to visit!! read more

Nice trail but much of park offers no cover. Depends the location. Also you have to cross car traffic.

Reminded me Lake Tahoe Nevada has an Alpine/Sierra Nevada Mt. feel. Nice birds/turtles. Alot of Youngstown State U joggers and hikers. Busy for a weekday afternoon. Nice waterfall. Would love to go back soon, but live 50 min away. read more

Love love love Mill Creek Park. It is truly the gem of Youngstown. I had my wedding reception at the Davis Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens. It is such a gorgeous venue and the staff was very easy to work with. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect location for my wedding. The white garden terrace is beautiful to step out on and overlooks the lake. The observation tower is very cool and the cafe is always a great place to grab lunch. They have one of the cutest gift shops where you are sure to find a gift for that special friend or relative in your life. They always have some cool art hanging up as well. The rose garden with its fountains and gazebo are stunning. Such a great place to visit in the summer. Lanterman's Mill is such a cool place. You can go inside which is awesome. The waterfall is so picturesque. I love the antique bridge. There are so many trails and you can go paddle boating. It is such an awesome place to spend the day. Not a place to miss when in Youngstown. read more

I started coming to Mill Creek when I was attending college; to me, it really is like an oasis amidst all the rust and decay. Mill Creek is where I asked R to marry me, and where we held our wedding reception. It's where we rode our mountain bikes on the trails even though you're not supposed to, and where we watched our daughter's eyes open wide when she saw a snapping turtle for the first time. It's where we go for walks with family, where we go to see Santa, and where we eat our annual roasted chestnuts. It's where we spit out our annual roasted chestnuts too, because chestnuts are nasty. Anyway, this review is really like a love letter, because I owe so many beautiful moments in my life to this humble green area in the middle of a small rust belt city. I'll keep coming back until I can't, and then I'll be sad. read more

This metro park is absolutely wonderful in every way! It is truly a Youngstown wonder! If only the city would stop running sewage into the waterways, the park could be enjoyed to its full potential. I love to hike here with my dogs. There are many nice bike paths, too! I have also taken many of my elementary classes on field trips to various locations of the park. GREAT place to ride a bike. This park is one of the best things about the Youngstown area. The roads in the park can be a little rough in spots but there is a lot of challenging terrain with hilly and curvy roads wandering through Mill Creek park from downtown Youngstown on out to Boardman and back. Very little automobile traffic on the internal park roads during the week (a little busier on the weekends) means Youngstown biking enthusiasts have lots of room to roam throughout the park. read more

MiIl Creek Metroparks is a free park that offers a lot for a family to do. The Fellows Riverside Gardens is absolutely beautiful and is maintained and kept very well. I have lots of memories of raising my children there. The park is my favorite place to go in the Youngstown area. There are picnic areas, places for sports, playgrounds, trails to hike, turtles and ducks to take pictures of, an old mill to visit and many more attractions that make this place the best free park in the area! read more

Simply, Youngstown's jewel. Thousands of acres in the heart of the community. I cannot be objective because I grew up in Youngstown and it is in my blood. This was originally founded in the 1890's to serve as a respite for the people of Youngstown from the grit and grime of the steel mills. We are so lucky to have this park. The layout was done by Charles Eliot who had apprenticed with Frederick Law Olmstead. If visiting Youngstown, spend some time here. read more
