The plastic board underneath my engine was flapping and falling off, so I took it to Hare Repair for them to take a look. The mechanic did the best he could to tighten it up and I was on my way out in 20 minutes! The nice thing is they did it for free! Compared to the $30 I had to pay before for the same service, I am definitely a fan! Note that I did not get any other service from Hare, so I can't speak for all. My car wouldn't start yesterday morning and Hare Repair made the process to get it fixed so easy. They arranged for a tow company to come get the car, quickly diagnosed the problem and had it fixed by lunchtime. Total time to get all of this done was just a few hours. The first time I really used Yelp was to find this mechanic shop. I needed to have work done on my F150 immediately. The Ford dealership was quoting more than $1,000. This shop got my truck going again for less than $500 in only one day. They quoted me $650 and then beat their own price which I would've gladly paid. The shop is not in the best part of town and the proprietor has an interesting sense of humor but they do good work at a great value. We took our 5 year old Honda Pilot in for power steering issues. Just moved from out of state where a chain shop told us it was a large, $2500 repair. The guys at Hare Repair got us in right away and took the time to accurately diagnose the problems. Fixed our power steering leak by simply tightening the hose and replaced our weak power steering pump. In and out the same day for $425 and my car drives like new again! I had Jim check my car out before a long road trip. He gave me honest quotes on the work he thought needed done. The work was done timely and the staff is great. I had the work done a month before my trip, and Jim told be to come in 2 days before and he'd take a look complimentary, just in case anything else popped up in the month before the trip. I too am way late in posting this review. I started using Hare Repair around 1998. One of the first times I went to HR, I had a 1984 GMC pickup that was leaking antifreeze. Thinking I knew what was wrong, I took my truck in and told them I was pretty sure the weep hole on the water pump was leaking, so I figured my water pump was out. They called me about a half hour later and Jim said "Well, I really wish I could charge you for a new water pump, but you got a leaky radiator hose. It's fixed. You owe me 30 bucks. Come get your truck". I was instantly sold. They could have easily said, yep water pump, and charged accordingly. I've been a loyal customer ever since, and have owned many vehicles that they've worked on in the last 12 years. And I have to echo one of the other reviewers - They've always been up front about what needs fixing NOW, what can wait, and when it's time to dump the car. Which did happen. I had an 84 Cadillac that started having all kinds of problems, but they straight up told me that as much as they'd like to take my money as long as I kept bringing in the car, it would be wise to rid myself of it. Which I did. The Caddy went to charity. Bottom line: Hare Repair is a group of honest, hilarious, good guys. Truly a one in a million repair shop. read more

I highly recommend Hare Repair!!! Quaint mechanic shop, minutes from US 59 and Chimney Rock, with a darling owner by the name of Jim. I discovered Hare Repair via Yelp. If you're feeling a bit skeptical about the great reviews for this company, don't be!! Jim was extremely kind, welcoming, and funny too! Jim's estimate was about 40% less than the estimate I received from Honda for some routine maintenance. He suggested that I order a master window switch from eBay in an effort to save $$$. The only reason I am deducting a star is due to the fact that the shop is closed on Saturday's. If I had my choice of ratings, I'd give Hare Repair a 4.5/5. read more

This place is as awesome as it can get with regard to auto repair. I was referred to them by a friend of mine who has used him for about 20 years. I felt they shot straight with me with what was wrong with my car - they could have easily duped me in telling me it was a much more expensive repair. I was thinking expensive transmission repair, and Jim informed me that it was a motor mount issue. It still wasn't "cheap," but much more affordable than it could have been if I would have taken it to another mechanic. read more

Came here per recommendation and after reading positive reviews. However, my experience has been the opposite. I brought my car there 3 times. They would say they fixed what they thought was broken but as it turns out either did it wrong or missed other related issues, so very soon after that my car would have even bigger problems. Come to think of it now, it's probably their strategy. For example, they replaced a coil in one of the cylinders, and it went bad after a month; the mechanic I took it to afterwards said it was the wrong coil! Also another time they pressure checked the cooling system and found no leak (and charged me an arm and a leg for labor). Well, soon after, the car overheated and the head gasket needed to be replaced. Jim Hare had the guts to say they'll fix it for almost $1,500! I took it elsewhere and had it fixed for $650!! Can you believe how they are ripping you off?? Bottom line - I found them incompetent, with shady business practices, and way overpriced. Plus Jim turned very rude and disrespectful when it was time to face the truth. Will never go there again. read more

This is the 2nd time I visited Hare Auto, both time I had wonderful experience. 1st time the car was not starting, his conclusion is the connectors to the battery are rusty and fixed it under $20 for the connectors. 2nd time the Check Engine was ON with P0171 code, because of a lose connection to the Air Hose, just a visual inspection revealed the lose connection and he did it for free of cost. He is very honest. I would go back for any car repair and gladly recommend to anyone. read more

I had a problem with the passenger seat adjuster in my car. A slick shop near the medical center wanted $1500 to repair it: $800 for the part and $700 for labor. Hare repair found a used part for $125 and charged $200 for labor, for a total of $325. They also checked all the fluids and tire pressures for free. I'll never take my car anywhere else. read more

Although it was a slight hassle to get back to the mechanic to actually do this, Jim insisted I come in and look at the issues he found during his inspection. As a person who gets clammy just thinking about car repair, I really appreciated him taking the time to hoist the car up, point out each issue to me, explain what the part does, and whether or not I really needed it fixed. He then gave me a list with estimates and prioritized what really needed to be done. I had taken my car for other estimates and Hare was the cheapest option as well. I went here based on all the great reviews and on recommendation from my boyfriend. I'd been having trouble with my car starting for a few days. I had a very badly corroded battery that I knew needed to be replaced, along with the terminals. Mazda had quoted me $1500 to do this! So since it was running fine at the time (few months ago) I decided to wait. Well when my car was having trouble starting, I figured it was time to get it checked out. These guys were amazing! They squeezed me in without an appointment. Let me drop off my car and get it the next day (picked it up at 9am the next day!). Only cost $188 to fix what Mazda had quoted me $1500!!! I was so happy! Brought my 2002 Ford Taurus in for a brake check at the crack of dawn, 45 minutes before the shop even opens and Jim was waiting at the door. Dropped my car off, got a call an hour later to let me know what work needed to be done and to get my OK..Got the rear cylinders and shoes replaced, and drums machined for $250 (Parts and Labor). After I hit a pot hole (one of about 673,000,000 in the greater Houston area. We have wonderfully maintained roads here...said no one EVER! anyway I digress) I was pretty sure I had just ripped the from end out of my '08 Camry. I called my dad in St. Louis and explained what had happened. I told him there didn't appear to be any outward damage but that I had a pretty bad "vibration" in the steering wheel, and some other worrisome complaints. After some research he calls me back and says "you need to go to HARE REPAIR" They have great reviews and the "Car Talk" guys "Click and Clack"(from NPR) gave them "5 wrenches"(stars). I take my car in fully expecting to be told I need anything from air in my tire to I need a whole new front end? I didn't have a clue what was wrong. All that to say, If I had gone to an establishment with less integrity they could have really cleaned me out and I would've been none the wiser. The guys (and gals) at Hare Repair were great! They were able to get me in quickly and said "we will take a look and let you know." Jim called me back several hours later and said "What did you hit?!!" My heart sank! I said...a pot hole...? He started laughing and said "hey, man you get to pay me $20 to tell you there is nothing wrong with your car" "We looked all over it and you are good to go" "However, you have a small crack and some minor damage to the wheel, and may also need a new tire" He said he wasn't comfortable trying to fix the damage since it was an alloy wheel (not a steel wheel) and he didn't wan to cause more problems. He gave me some recommendations as to where I could take it to have the damage fixed properly. I was so relieved and have had no additional problems from the car. I feel that the people over at Hare from the check in to checkout and everywhere in between were fantastic! I would recommend them to anyone! Here are a few words that come to mind: HONEST, INTEGRITY, QUALITY...and the list goes on. I'm sure you get the idea. As I didn't have to have actual work done I can't speak to the prices but i think it would be safe to assume those are fair and reasonable as well! I will be returning with all of my future vehicle repair needs. (may they few and far between!) read more
