Sometimes you just need luck to find a good auto repair shop. I lived in Houston for over a decade and was ok-ish happy with my service choices. Then, a few months ago, the management changed. And my cry for help regarding my dying battery went unheard. "We don't have enough people, we will not help". So, I searched for another shop to help me out. Sal, the owner, picked up the phone personally and did send a technician that jump-started me. I followed him and helped on the spot. Fast-forward three weeks: I visited my trusted garage to have a flat tire re-inflated with air. Bad luck, I was told that I could wait in line for at least 2hrs because they were short on staff. I meekly tried to intervene, stated that I'm a loyal customer for almost 10 years. No avail, she said that this is the best that she can do. My rhetorical question "are you sure?" was answered with a very concrete "Yes!" So, I left for good. What happened next is almost too good to be true. Sal's Ivan found out that the valve of the tire was leaking air and that they: 1) Did not have it in stock 2) Did not want me to wait until tomorrow until they get it 3) Sent me to Discount tires to get it fixed right away, what they did. And... Yesterday I had to return because another tire was leaking. Ivan found the leak and repaired the tire in not even 10 minutes. After I payed and got some cash he didn't even want to be tipped. I told him in no uncertain terms: "I went through the hassle to get some f&*^%ing cash to f&*^%ing tip you for your f&*^%ing good work. Take it, f&*^%ing will you? Great people, great service. 3 weeks agoNEW NEVER TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO SAL'S! They ruined the engine on our H2, then quoted us $10K on a new engine! We had no engine problems prior to Sal's work. The engine is knocking after they started it repeatedly, even though the manuals state that the vehicle should not be started with a flashing check engine light. After taking the truck to a GM dealer, they confirmed the vehicle should not have been started. We're fighting the issue but it's sad that we have a ruined engine due to Sal"s " best" mechanic. read more

Had a leak on the right rear axle seal of my 2010 Town Car. Very common. Dropped of car at 7am and shop gave me a ride to the office nearby. Called me shortly to confirm the leak on the right rear and to get permission to pull the seal and the axle to inspect. I agreed. A short time later I was called with the repair cost. I agreed and the vehicle was set to be ready that evening. I picked it up the next day and the diagnosis was spot on. The cost to replace the axle kit was comparable to most mom and pop shops. On Tuesday, May 24th, I took my vehicle to Sal's Auto Repair to have my car checked since my check engine light came on. I have managed to maintain proper vehicle maintenance, so I had no idea what the issue could be. I asked Sal if he could complete a diagnostic test to determine what was wrong with my vehicle and focus on primary areas of concern. Sal called me later and mentioned four significant issues that I agreed for him to take care of if they were the only issues of concern due to the considerable price for service. Two days later, I went to Sal's shop to pick up my vehicle. At the time, I was told that my car was in great condition and that it should continue to run well with proper care and maintenance. The next day, I attempted to start my car, but it would not crank. After trying again, my car started, but the check engine light was back on. I immediately called Sal asking what the issue could be, considering I had just picked up my vehicle from his shop. He told me to return my car and assured me that the issue would be handled. After not hearing back for a couple of hours, I called to find out what could be wrong with my car. I was told that there was a cracked head gasket amongst other things. I asked Sal why the MAJOR issue was not mentioned before spending $800 on the less severe problems. He responded that "these things happen". I went to the shop to discuss how we could resolve the problem without being dismissive and leaving me in a complicated situation. When I arrived, Sal attempted to hand me the keys after saying, "I'm sure you're not happy." I asked that we speak about this problem. After a lengthy discussion that seemed redundant, Mike- the mechanic that worked on my vehicle, mentioned that HE DID NOT THOROUGHLY CHECK MY CAR. He stated that he only focused on the cords because that's the first thing he noticed, and he had seen most Camry's have similar issues. I responded by stating that overlooking this major issue led to me spending money on services that could have been taken care of later. Sal said he would get a better-equipped mechanic to look over my car and figure out a solution. Mike also said that he would add the sealant "blue devil" to the head gasket since he didn't thoroughly look at it before. On June 1st, Sal called to tell me that I would need to pay an additional $200 for the sealant to get added to my head gasket. I was under the impression that the mechanic would add the sealant at no additional cost since he offered the service and admitted to overlooking the issue. Because I had already spent a significant amount of money on the other repairs, I could not afford for them to apply the sealant. In addition to the extra costs, the lack of transparency and dishonesty led me to take my vehicle home until I could find someone to provide the proper repairs. Since bringing my car home, it has not started and seems to be in worse condition than before. I trusted Sal's Auto Repair because I was referred to the company by AAA and had gone to the shop before for minor repairs. Considering the financial strains, I would have prioritized fixing something significant before settling to work on something meaningless in terms of having a working vehicle. About a week ago I took my Toyota 4Runner to Sal's to replace the cabin dome bulb. This lights the interior of the car. It was very dim and I got a LED bulb from Amazon to replace it. Suleiman (Sal) Nimri, the owner, asked me to show him the problem. I took him to my car parked in front and showed him what I wanted. Without even properly seeing what was needed he said "You need to take the car to a body shop". I asked why a body shop to replace a small bulb. He replied you can take it to Autozone close by and ask them to replace the bulb. I had a new LED bulb with me and the Autozone worker replaced the bulb in about 3 minutes. The light came on bright and powerful! I have read several good recommendations about this auto shop. But then I also wondered at the need to ask me to go to a body shop to replace a small bulb. He said he was not familiar with LED bulbs!!! Sirs, an LED bulb is not advanced automobile technology. I have had a lot of work done on my truck here before it finally bit the dust. I believed they did really good service here for a long time but came to question that after finally having the time to inspect their work. They don't have the best customer service skills either. They last time they took a long time time to fix my vehicle and it was like pulling teeth calling them to get updates. Also, I came to find out later that they had put cheaper brake pads on my truck but charged me for the expensive ones from an earlier brake service. Another time, they did some front end work for me. It continued to make noises weeks and months later after repair. Taking it back in they said they couldn't hear anything and that was that.
