Have used Harland on several occasions for electrical work at my home in Groton. The final outcomes have been good, however two recent experiences with them have left a bad taste in my mouth. So much so I will be seeking another company for future work. First I had an employee of the company admit to me that he was told to bring a piece to the job but it was too busy a morning so he just didn't. This required him to leave the job and get the piece. I was told I was lucky it was only in Westford. I realized why when I saw I was still charged for labor for this travel time despite his admission that he intentionally came to the job without the correct parts. Ridiculous. After this I decided to give them one more try. This experience will be my last. The company had rescheduled on me due to an emergency (understandable) and given me a specific time they would come instead. They showed up 45 minutes early and I received an angry call saying I was not home. When I explained the time I was given I was yelled at that specific times are NEVER given. Well with iphone, voicemail gets transcribed so I knew I was right. The best part is they were at the wrong house as someone was home that whole time and they never pulled into the driveway. Work finally got done (and well) but I don't need anyone yelling at me on the phone especially when they are in the wrong. This review only gets 3 stars as the work was completed well. I needed my entire house re-wired since it had aluminum wire throughout. Harland Electric gave me a time/materials estimate of $13,600 for my 4 bedroom colonial with full basement. They estimated five days to complete the job. They also told me I could save money by reducing the time to do the job by moving furniture away from the walls, and opening the channel from the basement to the attic ahead of them. They also suggested that I purchase the materials for them to use as an additional cost savings. The crew called me the day before they were scheduled to begin to check in and let me now when they would be arriving. They arrived on time each day and all of the crew members were pleasant and hard working. They finished the job in FOUR days, and their total cost was $8600 (plus the $300 of wire I purchased). They did a clean and great job. Their final price ended up being the lowest of all the bids I received (I did not choose the lowest bidder). I recommend Harland Electric completely. They were great. I can't remember a contractor that impressed me more with their good communications, pleasant work crews and quality work. If you need to have electrical work done you should definitely consider Harland Electric. Being really happy with a contractor isn't always about money. In this case they WERE the lowest cost, but I still would have been happy with them even at the higher price. read more

I enjoyed working with Harland Electric right from the beginning. Judy, who answers the phone, was very helpful. I recently turned a bedroom into a bathroom in my house built in 1847. The electricians were totally unphased by the project. I had assumed it would be difficult because of the age of the house. Everything was completed on time, and everything worked as it should. I had a subsequent issue in a different part in the house. Bill came within a day to look at it and arranged for a follow-up visit when it turned out to be more complicated than it had seemed over the phone. That said, the only drawback I have found is that Harland is so popular, it's sometimes hard to schedule a visit. Because my house is so old, I know I will continue to call Harland any time I need electrical work. I find it very difficult to find specialists for dealing with home issues and am so pleased to have found reliable electricians. One less worry! read more

Wife bought a plug- in hybrid car, and I was planning on buying a full electric, so we decided to have a car charger installed. I looked online, saw good reviews for Bill Harland. I called him to ask about installing the charger (not many out there yet!). He seemed knowledgeable, so we booked a time for him to come look at our 200 year old house. He met me on time, checked out the electrical panel, the charger (if you live in Littleton, get it from Littleton Electric; $300 off!) and we set up an installation. His 2 man crew showed up on installation day. They were courteous, also knowledgeable, took a little longer than expected (see also 209 year old house), but didn't rush. They did an outstanding job. Bill himself later met the building inspector to give the seal of approval. If you go EV, I highly recommend Bill Harland. If you need ANY electrical work done, Bill and his crew are your men. read more

The Harland Electric staff (Hugo and Tom) did a great job and installed a functional electrical solution that worked - no more breaker tripping caused by new Miele washer and dryer installed in recent major home renovation! They showed up early, started working right away and demonstrated great teamwork as they were separated most of the time being on second floor or basement and communicating over their phones. They informally shared status of conditions as they worked (which I really appreciated) and even went above and beyond by figuring out how to move the GFCI outlet in a better position to reach. We have used Harland Electric in the past and this proves they are able to go the extra mile to implement and solve electrical issues that other contractors can't. read more

I recently had Harland Electric come out to inspect and replace some old baseboard heaters. All of my heaters are close to 40 years old, and one of them had started sparking. Kevin and Jake first came out to inspect the heaters and determined two of them needed replacement and they recommended replacing a 3rd one. They disabled the heater that was sparking, and came back about 2 weeks later to replace the heaters. They replaced two of the heaters without a problem, but the 3rd proved challenging to the point they needed Bill -- the owner -- to look at it. He came out and determined the problem was mislabeled wiring, and as soon as they wired it as he instructed it worked. They provided great service and the cost was very reasonable. read more

They have always taken great care of them as well, But this time, I called for a service call on my own home. I had found a tripped breaker in my box which would not reset. Long story short, they responded quickly to my call, assessed the situation and were able to install a new service panel immediately. I was pleased with their quote and had them proceed.
