Not happy with this place. My mom took English classes there, and she hated it. Very unprofessional.

Kids swimming classes are a joke. There are 8-10 kids crammed into a 30 min session so each kid hardly gets any swimming time.

I want everyone to know that I was kicked out of this club last year after buying a guest pass and…read moretraining with my friend, who is currently a member. This is a prime example of terrible business judgement, mediocre customer service and general customer profiling. We signed in and went downstairs to the free weights. We hadn't even been there 5 minutes, using the incline bench press when two individuals who worked for the club (a man and a lady) took me into a room as if to interrogate me. For the record, I'm NOT a personal trainer. I'm an amateur bodybuilder with an extremely MID physique. The exact conversation is as follows: Them: You are not allowed to train people at this gym Me: I was showing her how to use the Incline Press because she's literally never used it before Them: That's why we have trainers here to show people how to use machines Me: So you're saying two friends can't workout together and show each other how to improve their form Them: No Me: Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? Them: It's our policy I filed a formal complaint to management. Obviously these clowns didn't reply to me. There is a reason why this brand has been going downhill over the years. Spend your money elsewhere. I told my entire network about my experience. I have a sense they picked me out based on how I look / dress. I'm happy to discuss the details with any of you. I have memberships to three different gyms in NYC and this is by far the worst gym in the city, perhaps the country.

I went back to look 2 days ago and not only was the system not cleaned but the elevator got stuck AGAIN! I give up and would not give this location any stars if possible. This is one of the 3 locations in the NYSC chain that I visited with sub par maintenance. This review is for the 125 Harlem NYSC HVAC duct and elevator maintenance. As pictured there is a massive collection of dust in the ducts and I have been stuck in the elevator 2 times in 30 days.

I hadn't visited the facility in many years, despite having been deeply involved in the original community mobilization efforts that ensured this property would be preserved for much-needed neighborhood fitness and cultural programming, successfully pushing back against proposals for additional luxury high-rise development. The Asphalt Green team went out of their way to accommodate me as a walk-in, encouraged by a neighbor who regularly swims at the pool and speaks highly of its state-of-the-art design. While waiting in the lobby, I also ran into a fellow runner who is a frequent gym user, a spontaneous moment that speaks volumes about how embedded Asphalt Green is in the local community. I was impressed not only by the facility itself, but by Fritz's knowledge of membership services and the institution's history, especially as I shared personal memories of my own connection to its development. The tour included the locker rooms, pool, and fitness center. The pool is truly stunning and stands out as a best-in-class facility, thoughtfully designed to incorporate accessibility for users of all abilities. Experiencing it firsthand was unexpectedly emotional, a powerful realization of visionary community leader Dr. George Murphy's hopes for the Yorkville community brought to life. The fitness center was active and welcoming, with members of all ages engaged in individual workouts, stretching, and training sessions. The equipment appeared well maintained, well used, and reflective of a vibrant, inclusive membership. As a community-based nonprofit, Asphalt Green, like many NYC nonprofits, does the best it can with the resources available. From my perspective, the facility is exceptionally well run, thoughtfully maintained, and clearly fulfilling its mission to provide a neighborhood-based, state-of-the-art fitness center that truly serves its community. Thanks to Fritz for her kindness and generosity.

Things have changed for the worse unfortunately. It's still useful for getting in a workout but very disappointed in a number of things The facility has not been kept up well over the years. Showers, steam room and sauna often broken. Stairs were is disrepair and it took several accidents to get them fixed. They used to have a trainer available to answer questions or help remove a heavy free weight someone left on a machine. Now the only time you see a trainer is when they are working 1:1 doing a personal training session. They hang out in the fitness office and never on the gym floor. They new gym equipment they got in recently didn't replace old outdated 20 plus year old equipment with modern versions like other gyms have but rather took away some cardio machines and replaced them with racks and platforms for lifting. So if you're into lifting and body building this might be a fit for you. Disappointed but I think they usually follow a trend towards getting equipment based on what the manager trainers like to do. The spin bikes were never maintained over the years and although I've made suggestions they simply say - ok I'll send an email. Nothing gets done and now the still falling apart bikes have been moved to a separate building across the soccer field. So if you like spin classes I suggest finding another facility. It literally takes a while to find a bike that works well enough to use in order to take a class so arrive early and good luck! They also took away some gym space by renting a part of the gym floor to Spear PT. Members get nothing from this. AG is getting revenue but it's a mystery how they are spending it Most other gyms have kept up with state of the art equipment updates. Like I said you can still get in a workout just don't have your expectations high or you'll be disappointed
