I definitely worked up a sweat and would love to try it again! My con is not towards the class or staff, but more towards appearance. I came to the "beginner" pole dancing class just to be told by the instructor that she was not not comfortable with me staying because I have never had a class before so I had to leave. She basically escorted me out and said I should come back another day... If this is a pre-requisite this should be explicitly mentioned PRIOR to signing up for the class. I made a 30 minute commute just to be told to leave. This is not the way to make a good first impression. How am I supposed to know that the beginner class is not a beginner class?!? When you sign up it should say that. I just don't like the way the whole situation was dealt with. I was really looking forward to it but I definitely don't want to come The least the instructor could have done was made an accommodation for one class and have me take the "intro" class another day. As soon as you walk in you feel right at home, given the fact that you must take off your shoes at the front! The staff is extremely knowledgeable on all of the classes that are offered. I took beginners pole with Tuesday (substitute) and I had a blast. The class was insanely fun and quite challenging. The class size was perfect with just 4 of us ( not including the instructor) so there was no need to share poles. I'm so happy to have this spot in the neighborhood, I've taken a few classes at the studio. I have had good experiences each time. I've taken pole classes with Jessi and flex conditioning with Tuesday. The instructors are great, they are very talented with tons of great energy. The place was a little hard to find because it is in a residential location. They are looking for a permanent location, nonetheless, it is a nice studio with mirrors and moody lighting to set the tone for burlesque dancing. The instructor is passionate about music and vibes. If you are looking for a safe space to vibe out- this is the place! I gave three stars for a few reasons. First, the session was less instructional and more, do what you feel. We learned about three positions and movements and then told to dance for the rest of the class. For someone who is a beginner and not as creative, it was an awkward class. Second, there is a portion of the class where you perform for your fellow dancers, split into two groups - sit out three songs and watch, then dance. I recommend the class if you are tapping into the performative side of yourself. Third, the instructor asked if everyone was comfortable being on camera. I shook my head no but the consensus won. I expressed my desire to not be on camera one on one and it was respected. I just recommend the instructors ask before the class. read more

Sweet Water Yoga and Dance Studio is by far the best adult movement space in the Bronx. The studio is beautiful and the teachers and staff are exceptional. Whether your journey is to learn to dance or just shed a couple of pounds, Sweet Water Yoga and Dance Studio is the place for it. They offer a variety of classes for all levels. My one warning is to be wary of the owner because she lacks simple social/customer service skills. After frequent visits, I assumed she would warm up, but that was not the case; most people that lack this primary skill usually work from home! I Attended my first yoga class with my Husband. We loved it. They have a small play area for kids. Our kids waited while we were in class. The ambiance is just so warm relaxed very Soho like. We felt right at home from the moment we entered. Yosara, the owner welcomed our family like her own. Chris was also great, he gave me a walk through of the place .Sweet Water Dance yoga will be our second home. So glad to have this place in my neighborhood. Everyone is always warm and welcoming. It feels like a very safe space that encourages exploration, creativity, and growth. They offer a variety of classes, and some can be very unique. Such positive energy. Amazing instructors. Challenging and fun classes. People of all sizes and fitness backgrounds and levels will find this place to be very welcoming and non-judgmental. While the instructors encourage you to do the work, they care more about your growth and for you to embrace the challenge, rather than trying to achieve a ridiculous and intimidating idea of perfection that can end up being detrimental to physical and mental wellbeing. Class sizes are small and instructors are supportive and encouraging, while catering and accomodating to all levels of experience and comfort levels. I really like it here ! Instructors are passionate and knowledgeable. Everyone who works there is extremely friendly & welcoming . I think this is a great spot to either start or continue pole . I haven't tried anything besides pole but Im sure other classes are great as well . My only con is some classes aren't scheduled enough or sometimes cancelled because not enough people signed up , but I know its due to the fact that its a small studio . The intro to pole classes have been amazing, you literally don't need any prior experience because they take you through everything step-by-step. This is a bran new studio in the Bronx right across the street from Yankee Stadium on 161st Street. They have Yoga, Balley, Zumba and Belly Dancing! Everything you could ask for is right here in one space, they even have Salsa and Hot Yoga which I wouldn't have known until I randomly decided to stop by since it is in my neighborhood. Automatically they welcomed me with open arms and there was a little play area for young kids. The atmosphere is new and fresh and they have very well trained teachers! I LOVE Sweetwater!!! The atmosphere from the moment you enter is calming and cool! The owner is lovely and welcoming as are the teachers!!! I work in this neighborhood and can now take a class during lunch or after work. Yay! so far I've done piyo with Michelle and hot yoga with Susan (I hope I have their names right!) - both classes were fantastic and both teachers were knowledgeable, fun, and really nice. There are a lot of good things to say about this studio, firstly that there is even an offering like this in our South Bronx neighborhood. They've done a nice job of creating a peaceful space for community health and wellness. I've only been for yoga classes so that is what I can speak to. Two of the teachers I took classes from earlier this year were young but well trained and enthusiastic, and provided solid flow classes. Not necessarily in line with the best downtown studios, but good; I was happy with the offering. The second yoga room is carpeted which is not ideal, but it does have nice natural light. However my last experience there left me with a very bad taste and I haven't returned. There was a teacher substituting for the scheduled yoga class and it felt that she had no training as a yoga instructor at all. It was more like someone who had been to a bunch of yoga classes and was repeating postures in a haphazard order with no real sequencing or flow. Perhaps as a beginner you wouldn't notice, but as a certified instructor myself, it was evident throughout. An example is when she ran out of postures and started us back into warm up moves to fill the time before finishing in savasana (rather than continuing with cooling postures appropriate for that part of the practice). It just felt very irresponsible to me on behalf of the owners. Either they were in a pickle with a last minute cancellation by a teacher (then just tell me so I can choose whether or not to take the class) or they don't insist on proper certification of teachers, ensuring they can teach a quality class. In either case, it's made me gun-shy to try another class there as there are very few bios published for their teachers (including that substitute - whose name is still on the schedule), so I don't feel reassured that I'll be pleased with the experience, and would rather just spend a little more time traveling elsewhere. If I could offer some advice to the owners it would be to show off the quality of instructors with clear bios so that new prospective students know who they are dealing with! It seems they are already doing this effectively with the dance instructors, and need to do the same with yoga. read more
