They have a few well kept soccer fields with a concession booth and bathrooms in the middle. There is also a hiking trail which is marked pretty well. Augusta Riverwalk in Georgia is a wonderful place to unwind and relax at. While my family was in…read moretown bike riding the Greenway in South Carolina we decided to cross state lines and ride in Georgia a little bit. That's when we stumbled upon the Riverwalk. It's a fully brick walkway along the Savannah. My family enjoyed our time here while we took a break from bike riding. Along the path there are numerous picnic tables that offer spectacular views of the river, but the path does not offer a lot of shade. However there is an amphitheater that has a canopy with a couple of benches, if you are looking to get out of the sun. Although my family had a good time at the Riverwalk there is some maintenance that needs to be done. The trellises that are in front of the amphitheater were withered; there was noticeable deterioration of the wood and visible rotting of the wood. Even though the riverwalk path needs some maintenance, I had a wonderful time enjoying nature and relaxing near the Savannah River. I would definitely recommend going to the Riverwalk in Augusta Georgia, if you want to get some fresh air while enjoying the scenery and the sounds of nature.

I assume it's about 3 miles as you can walk at the top level or the bottom level. What was really nice was that along the journey was the water where you you saw the different level measures of flooding in the area that occurred like in 1908, 1928, 1990 and other eras. There were beautifully crafted artwork either bought or on loan to the city of Augusta. Also there were a lot of historical plaques of which one was a paper mill in the area at one time but I'm not sure of the actual location. There was a photo of Moody 1946 which was interesting. I was really sad to see so many fallen beautiful trees which showed how the ecosystem is changing and impacting Mother Earth. I would definitely be going back to this place again.

The park scores high on its own merits, however. The area is substantial, and includes both boardwalks through some classic wetlands, an educational complex that includes a lab and a conference center, a playground, and a series of artificial wetlands created as part of a reclamation project. Despite the nearby local airport, I experienced minimal distractions. Though it wasn't the greatest weather day, I did see wildlife, including some fairly horrific-looking spiders and a raptor of some sort that allowed me to get unusually close (I stumbled on it before carefully walking away). Alligators were not visible, and in my experience they do tend to hide on colder days, but I definitely believe there were some around. It's a great resource for the community, and it's free. If I were local, I would be checking out the event calendar.

There are agility features, a dog house, and water fountain for both humans and dogs (although last time when I was there they didn't work.) My dog loved playing here! My only worry is that because of the taller grass and bushes nearby, I was being hyper vigilant about snakes (although that may just be a personal worry and not be a real concern at all).

Since she's only a puppy, we wanted to wait until she stopped running over the smaller dogs and people alike before taking her to a public place where she'd be free to roam and sniff other dogs. The penned in dog area is a great place for a well behaved dog to stretch his/her legs out and chase other dogs. If you've got a smaller pet under 25 lbs. a separate area is available in case the bigger dogs get a little rowdy and while we were there, we saw many pet parents take refuge from the rambunctious packs of Rottweilers, Staffordshire Terriers and Retrievers. There's a little grass but mainly a lot of sand for the dogs to run and roll around in which is ideal for digging but that habit is definitely frowned upon. For pet parents, there's a bench area so you can watch your dog and take a breather and plenty of other dog owners so dog training hints can get swapped and play dates made. The con of such a large open space is when a dog falls in love with another dog and inappropriate humping takes place. I had to take matters into my own hands when trying to get my girl through the first set of gates when a persistent pursuer wouldn't get off her back-literally. The owner was too busy paying attention to the other dogs and had no clue what was going on. So if your dog is not altered, pay close attention otherwise you might be an unintentional grandparent to an unexpected litter. 19/2014
