This review is based on the Later Gator Race. I will update when I get to explore the entire park. Dear Friends, I've been blessed with great friendships and my latest one is a group of people that we call the H Hikers. We are formally know as the Sole Sisters but we've welcomed some pretty great dudes into our group. We aim to meet up and walk/slog/hike atleast once a month. We participated in the Later Gator race at Phinizy Swamp and Preserve in January. While it was southern freezing temperatures, the views melted those frostbite feeling away. The course was well laid out and the water station greeters were awesome! They even had a beautiful young lady motivating us with a special cheer. Group Suggestions: plan ahead and register early. Select a packet pickup person and have everyone email the organizers that that person will pick up your packet. Trust me nobody wants to wait in that line. Just have one person take one for the team. Solo Suggestions: Prepare to make new friends as everyone is moving at their pace. Once the race starts we're a family and we encourage and look out for everyone. Please share your story, reel, or phots from your 2024 race. I'm speaking it into existence that this is an annual event. Wishing you much fun! Sincerely CSRA #csrarace #latergatoratphinizyswamp #phinizyswamp #exploringthecsra #evansga #georgia #csra #yelpaugusta #augusta

Soooooo nice having this park right in my backyard. I hope you're not afraid of wildlife because there is plenty to be seen around here. During my visit, I saw two different alligators, interesting birds, a few snakes, and beautiful plants. After I saw Gator #2, I decided i didn't want to end up on the menu, so I called it a day. I'll definitely be back...

What a great early morning trip! A great place for everyone especially after seeing so much concrete and asphalt everywhere else. I hope the state pours money into this place as it is a gem. Conservation and Ecology Tourism is smart for everyone! I will return with family and look to donate, so glad it is free!

What a neat park! I was ill prepared and didn't realize the trails were so long. Didn't wear the right shoes, didn't bring water. I need to come back. From what I did see, it was beautiful! Lots of wildlife to watch.

A great spot to retreat/relax if you're trying to forget you're in Augusta. Definitely one of the only nice things in this area.

It had always been a dream of mine to visit s swamp! Went to Georgia to visit my husbands family and I found this place! I'm so glad we decided to check it out. Get ready to walk!!!! Unfortunately we didn't see an alligator but we did see a snake! We saw turtles and lots of different types of birds, even saw two eagles. If you're visiting Augusta, or if you are from this area check it out!!!!!! Oh and it's free!!! Parking is free as well!

Ok this place was weird to find, we saw a sign that said it was it but wasn't lol we followed the GPS and found it. The place is free, to get to the info place you pass threw the swamp, pretty damn cool! WD didn't find any gators but we enjoyed the view and the walk. We did show up during winter....we don't know much and didn't look up info on when its best to go check them out either, but cool place for a walk with a view.

Great walking trails throughout the park. It's good to exercise and walking is low impact and helps in keeping fit!

Good bird watching. Has a great centrally located covered area for just sitting still and not getting fried by the sun.

If you are not an Intermediate skilled rider I would highly advise look before you leap. Literally!!! At this entrance, past the sign about 10 meters is a triple stairstep like hill going down which converges to a singletrack line in the woods then a sharp curve to the left. You can go with speed to the next obstacle or choose a very technical line because it opens up to a massive rock garden under a bridge followed by mini grand canyon of wash outs in the dirt before converging back to a single track. Note!! pay attention to the directions of the day (Clockwise or Counterclockwise). There are many little feeder paths running parallel to the railroad so stay on the path well worn (no pun intended). About .4 miles from the Canal Singletrack South Trailhead there is a storm water waste project currently being worked on. Do not make my mistake and follow the hay and dirt on the right side on the pond, it is not a trail!!! Stay to the left of the pond closest to Riverwatch Parkway and it will open up to the stormwater project area, but look for a well worn dirt hill and that will be your connection back to the trail. Had a wonderful cool ride in the forest, but lesson learned for the day was set your rebound and compression after your initial loop for a better ride.

I wish the park system would add-on a playground or a contained dog park area...that would be a wonderful addition to this system. You know, each trailhead should have its own attraction or personality. This trail meets with the Lake Olmstead Trailhead...most people think its all one trail.

But it's a great park to picnic at along the water or take a walk around the lake. I've ran a couple 5k's here and they were fun as well. The is also the Julian bbq pitt which is an "hut" like building available for events. I'm most often here because it's a gateway to the Augusta canal trail. Just a short hike to aqueducts or you can take bike ride all the way to Savannah River rapids. You can also kayak and enjoy the lake too. So plenty to do to enjoy the outdoors here :)

This is an awesome…read morefacility--gives you a simple, old-school ball park feel without the "extra" that so many state-of-the art facilities have today. The food was cheap, and everything was right beneath the stands (food, restrooms, etc.) Great location next to Lake Olmstead and the trail head which is located behind the stadium. NEGATIVES: 1. Parking is ATROCIOUS. There is very minimal free parking. The lots are made of dirt and gravel, no defined parking spaces. It's quite common to get parked in and be unable to leave until the others nearby come to get their vehicles. Frustrating is an understatement! Some people would walk all the way from parking off Broad Street. 2. Neighborhood not the best, not the worst. Safety at night is definitely more of a concern. 3. Ticket line is always lengthy. The stands can get crowded and there is little room to move around comfortably if you need to stretch your legs. Otherwise, this is a fun facility. I miss it often, even when at current Green Jackets games across the River. I hope it stays around and gets good use!
