I love this mall. My 3nd favorite mall besides Woodfield Mall. It has a lot of stores, restaurant, food court, my favorite stores is 2 story Target, 2 story Kohl's, GameStop, Miniso, Hot Topic, and BoxLunch. I'm shocked that Hollister Co. opened there. I'm even happy Toys R Us is back. Store that needs to open next is Abercrombie & Fitch, Gilly Hicks. Yes please bring back Disney store too, and this mall will be in best shape. Plus I have a membership for XSport Fitness and swimming pool, hottub is good too. I visit this mall a lot. I live not too far since I moved to Chicago from Indiana. Nice mall and it's clean and has so much that you will enjoy like hollister, cupcakes by Molly, activities for kids, watches and phone, T mobile, target and Dicks is attached, and so much more. It also has a food court for real food and not just auntie Anne's pretzels. Lots of free parking at a lot that's several floors and has cover too for certain floors. TMOBLIE STORE: I went into this location recently because my phone screen was cracked and I needed assistance filing a claim. Unfortunately, this was one of the most unprofessional customer service experiences I've had with T-Mobile. When I walked in, there were three employees in the store and another who appeared to be on break looking at phone cases. I was not greeted, acknowledged, or offered any help for about 15 minutes. Eventually, an employee approached me. I explained my situation, and she told me she could not help me and that I had to go online to file the claim myself. When I later called T-Mobile directly, I was told that store representatives are in fact able to help customers file claims. That means this employee chose not to assist me, which is extremely disappointing. I've been a loyal T-Mobile customer for 9 years (and before that a Sprint customer). I expect at least basic courtesy and accurate information when I visit a store. This location failed at both. Customer service is about helping the customer, not making them feel like they are a burden. No one was willing to do their job to assist. Sadly, I will not be returning to this store and I hope management takes steps to retrain their staff! read more

Though it's not enormous, I do enjoy my trips to HIP as the parking isn't super crazy for being in the city, it's not too difficult to reach from other places I'm visiting nearby, and the store selection is quite varied. While it doesn't have some of the nice amenities that you'll find in the larger malls of the suburbs, it does cover a wide variety of shops from department stores to toys to artwork and has a nice selection of dining options. It's also one of the places where you'll find a Gloria Jean's coffee, a nice change of pace from Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. The anchor stores are pretty solid as well, maintained fairly clean and nice looking with a good selection of inventory. There's definitely lots of options for finding bargains here as well, though there's plenty of other shopping centers nearby for any needs that can't be fulfilled by shopping here. read more

I didn't realize that the store I wanted to visit was inside HIP--if I had known, I have to confess that I probably would have visited this store in another suburb. Usually I'm able to figure out where a store is inside a mall but I've never been so confused by a mall map and finally had to give up and call the store for some sort of idea where to find them. I'm not sure what it is about this mall--maybe it's that from the outside it feels like it's all parking lot. I mean when I got there I was like, where the hell are the stores? Luckily I knew where Target was so I could understand very vaguely where the store was when they said it was "in the middle". It's standard mall fare, but it actually has more stores inside than I thought when I consider the state of the American mall. Target anchors one end of the mall, Kohl's the other, with a Best Buy in between and there's Hobby Lobby (ew), Dick's Sporting Goods and other major outlets here. North of HIP is the portion that may or may not be separate but houses the Nordstrom Rack and some other stores. They have a Molly's Cupcakes at HIP which surprised me to be quite honest. It seems like kind of a bougie cupcake shop but maybe that's just because I've been to the Lincoln Park location in the city. They had a large selection, though, which maybe is tempting to the high schoolers that congregate here. The malls in NYC must be so crappy because I personally really enjoyed my experience here! Y'all got customer service lol, like what! That said, mad options in the food court and soooo many stores like target, aerie, express factory outlet, hot topic and more. I had a good time shopping and going through store to store. No one was annoying like "do you need help with anything?" Or following you around thinking you're gonna steal. I was left alone, and was greeted with nothing but smiles from store to store. A lot of teens and kids though, felt like walking through a highschool again. Overall, wish I could visit more, the malls pretty big. read more

I'm writing this in the hopes that mall management will take notice and make a difference. The Hip has potential, but it falls short in several areas. The selection of stores is weak, and the ones that are there often lack inventory. Men's wear is especially lacking--there are few options for dress clothes, and what is available is disappointing. Express, for example, has slim pickings and low-quality offerings. Nordstrom Rack is one of the biggest letdowns, with no real selection, cheap garbage, and weird, random sizes that make it impossible to find anything worthwhile. Victoria's Secret didn't deliver the glamorous vibe it usually has. Even Dick's Sporting Goods didn't have the coat I was looking for, and I had to order it online from the store. If you want to go shopping and actually find something of value with many options, you'll need to head to Woodfield Mall instead. The Hip just doesn't deliver in terms of variety or quality. This mall desperately needs more variety and higher-quality stores. Adding a Lush store would be a great start, as would bringing in another department store that caters to all shoppers looking for classy and dressy outfits. A fully stocked Sephora would also be a huge improvement. On a positive note, Windsor, Bath & Body Works, and Akira are good stores with a lot of selection. The food court also needs a serious upgrade. There are very few vegan options, and it would be great if at least one place offered a veggie burger or if Panda Express carried tofu at this location. Target is the standout here, but overall, this mall needs an upgrade. I hope this feedback reaches mall management and inspires changes that will make The Hip a better shopping destination. Wide selection of stores here. Always very busy, full of high school kids coming from school. Bc of them it is a little bit rowdy at times. That is why security gets a little tight around night time. You cannot enter target if you are not 18 or above here because it is a new rule to prevent chaos. Food court has a lot of food such as McDonald's, Popeyes, Panda Express, Sbarro, and more. There are dessert shops here like mollys cupcakes, Cinnabon, la michoacana, dippin dots, and more here. Many classic chain stores like target, kohls, Nordstrom rack, Claire's, five below, forever 21, Victoria's Secret, pink, hot topic, JD, etc here. Norridge , Illinois ( suburb inside of Chicago ) November 2019 This is an indoor mall which allows for a comfortable shopping experience no matter the temperature outside. Air conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter. The Mall building officially opens at 7:00 a. m. Although many , if not most of the stores , open at 10:00 a. m. Because the building opens so early it is a Mecca for "walkers" who rise early and go for their morning walk in a climate controlled environment. Most of the "walkers" are seniors engaged in cardio vascular activity designed to allow them the benefits of a healthy life style. There is a food court tucked away at the south end of the mall building. The Food Court contains the usual suspects...chains like PopEyes , McDonalds , etc. The mainstays in the Mall are the Big Boyz like Target , Best Buy , Kohl's , but there are also stores like Forever 21 , Foot Locker , etc. Most of the shoppers arrive after 10:00 a. m. when most of the stores are open. The Mall is lined with many little "Pop Up" kiosk stores which offer Nick Nacks , sunglasses , jewelry , T-Shirts , Pots & Pans and other assorted items. Many parents and grandparents bring their little ones to the Mall to play on the little "rides" offered via cars , trains , or video games. There are also coin operated massage chairs available in the Mall for those wishing to enjoy a few minutes of relaxation. There is an abundance of parking in the Mall with both first floor and roof top parking available. The only time I've ever experienced problems with parking in the Mall is during Christmas season. At that time of year the HIP is a mad house. There is also an outdoor Mall across the street from the HIP adding to congestion at Christmas time. Harlem Avenue cuts right through the middle of the two Malls and intersects at Irving Park Rd. Hence the name HIP ( Harlem Irving Plaza ). It's a very busy intersection with heavy traffic all day long. All in all , the HIP is a convenient place to shop , grab a bite to eat , play with the grandkids or go for a morning "walk". The Carson's store at the Mall closed and the space is being remodeled for a replacement venue. I think I'm going to give the HIP 4 Stars. It's been a mainstay in the neighborhood for decades. It's not the "best" Mall but it's a nice Mall and serves the area well. Yup , 4 Stars ! read more

I like this mall and the shops within it. It is a very clean and usually a pleasant place to visit. However, I do caution against going to the mall immediately after school lets out. This is when gangs of unsupervised teens are on the loose and they tend to be obnoxious. I am sorry to say that some exhibit crude and outright racist behavior (e.g., using a play on words that they think are clever but are actually racial slurs). And then there is the problem of face masks. All doors to the mall display a sign that says: "Due to regional mask mandate, face masks or coverings are required during your visit for any person age 2 or older. Thank you for your cooperation" Unfortunately, many security personal (not all) wear their masks pulled down over their chins. I do think they are over the age of 2 and their masks should be worn over their noses and mouths. read more

The mall has gone down a lot in terms of quality. Living two minutes away this used to be the regular place I went to Target. My grandmother was hit by a car driving from this mall resulting in hospitalization, medical bills, and lawsuits due to the types of driving that occurs in the mall. Outside from that in the years past, I had two LensCrafters workers reporting their own pedestrian car crashes to me claimming that they had hit two pedestrians in the mall parking lot. My car had someone ram their bicycle into it, as well. Mall security is seen smoking with the mall workers rather than actually patrolling the mall resulting in compliants that the mall is unsafe and even some people claiming they feel safer in a maxiumum security prison with criminals than this mall on Google Reviews. The secuity will allow certain workers in the mall to break certain mall policies and rules such as these workers being allowed access to the mall rooftop parking. The older men that work on the security team, not all of them, are often socializing in the LensCrafters or the Health foods store. On one visit to the Hobby Lobby, the security guard was getting a back massage rather than doing his own job. That is in addition to them patrolling with their face down in their phone and I've heard enough about how their texting mall workers and have excessive socializing rather than using their phone to communicate with other security guards, for example. I've heard enough compliants from workers that security is never around to actually do their jobs when thefts are occuring. They never seem to arrive anywhere fast enough based on other Google Reviews you can read yourself. Anyone can simply walk into the mall after closing hours as security doesn't even look up from their desk if you enter through the door by the security office. There used to be a homeless elderly lady that would be using one of the mall shopping carts to store her stuff and sleeping on a bench for the longest time, as well. For starters their quality is horrible, 3 times the price, and they sell you broken things. On top of that they have a no returns policy and only exchange policy. Ah the HIP. I can't say I spent my childhood here, but I do remember a couple of times checking out this mall. Nothing fancy about this place, but you can find the usual staples here, including a Best Buy and a Target. This place is not too busy and the hallways don't feel too crowded or cramped, with center aisle kiosks with random pushy people asking to clean your shoes. We just had our third visit here in maybe 3 years, but I have to say this old "dump of a place" is growing on me.  There is definitely a nostalgia factor for me but also one of sort of morbid entertainment.  Looking out of curiosity at some of the other reviews, I really enjoyed Yelp friend Anthony M's 2013 review of his childhood days here and learning the fun factoid that HIP is in fact Chicagoland's oldest mall, dating back to 1956.  That makes it just a year younger than me, which in turn does make it a bit on the senior side.  But having been here and always seeing a busy, upbeat, vibrant, and well-behaved daytime and city-dwelling clientele (can't speak for when the teens really may show up in droves), and seeing no store vacancies, I can see and sense money has been consistently going into the place to keep it viable in this age of disappearing brick-and-mortar businesses.  This place also reminds me of old businesses (mainly hotels) in say Boston or Washington DC that on first impression look like dumps, but are in fact pricey and premium properties - that's just the way it is in older areas.  The morbidly entertaining part of visiting here for me is casually observing the traffic in the clusterf*ck parking lot that is the first level. This place was built up over 63 years in an already congested area and this layout was probably all the designers could do, but the 1st floor parking is as freakin' bad as everyone says.  It's so bad it's funny seeing the head spinning turns and pillar avoiding needed to get around.  So my advice from experience is go straight up to the very convenient, expansive, and requisite second level.  It turns out with the traffic light right on busy Harlem Ave. for those entering and exiting the second level ramp (so sorry though for Harlem drivers and it shows in the traffic), I can get out of this "congested" mall faster than any other.  Yes, I can hit the road from here faster than at Old Orchard, Oakbrook, or Woodfield just to name a few.   Anyway, besides shopping, HIP may be worth a visit just from a historical Chicagoland novelty perspective. read more

Definitely not the best mall in the world, but not the worst... They have many well-known stores, such as Victoria Secret, Charlotte Russe, Target, Kohl's, Bath and Body Works, Forever 21, Footlocker, Express, and other stores, so you are bound to find a store you like. However, the mall is honestly really small and super cramped because it is only one floor, with department stores like Target and Kohl's having an upstairs. Parking can get really bad, but they are usually smart about this, especially during the Christmas season by having security direct traffic. There is an upstairs parking lot, a downstairs parking lot, a parking lot near X-Sport and Chipotle, and there is parking in the back of the mall near the residences. The crowd who shops here isn't always the best because there can be shady people, but there are mostly teenagers roaming the place just like any other mall. The customer service at most places at this mall is sub par, but they do have a pretty big food court that makes me happy. They have definitely upgraded their food in the past few years. They have places like McDonalds, Panda Express, Dippin Dots ice cream, Cinnabon, Sbarro, Sushi Burrito, Popeyes, and more. There used tobe an arcade in the food court back in the day, and part of me still wishes they had it because I loved going there when I was younger. Outside of the food court, there is a little parking lot that is more newly added with X-Sport, Nordstrom Rack, Forever Yogurt, Chipotle, and Panera, but only Nordstrom Rack is connected to the mall building. All of the other ones are just in the parking lot, which is unfortunate because if I am in the mall already and it's freezing out, I would rather stay in the nice, warm mall to get food than have to walk outside on the other side of the parking lot to get Chipotle. They could have planned that better. To make a long story short, this is not the best mall, but it is nice when you know what you are looking for or need to stop at a specific store. This is nothing like Woodfield with different floors of stores where you would spend your whole day shopping. read more

HIP offers standard mall store selections and an acceptable food court. I like Target and Nordstrom Rack, and when it's a lazy day, I'll browse clearance racks at smaller stores. I LOVE Bath & Body Works and will make this my twice-yearly stop for their awesome semi-annual sales. Glad to see most of the space occupied in this mall since so many malls are suffering a multitude of empty spaces. read more

The mall was like the definition of peace when we visited it. It is so quiet and it is not so busy. We like it, and I think it's convenient for us to be able to shop freely and do or find whatever we want. We also liked it because each store was clean and well-lit, and most importantly, we were accommodated very well because there were only a few people. There are stores that are busy, especially the brand stores, and some that are not. Many stores are open, but there are also a few that are not. We like the service, and we also like that there are a lot of sales and discounts at most of the stores that we visited. Not only that, because the products and items are of good quality as well. We were glad that we had an amazing experience at the store. It was definitely our first time experiencing something like we had in this kind of shopping mall. I came here with my son. It's been a long time since he goes outside because of the schooling and also covid. I planned to eat here our breakfast. We eat pancake for him and hot chocolate and for me is burger bacon and hot coffee. After we ate we enter to the stores and bought him a clothes, pants and jacket. It's expensive since its branded and has a comfortable and god quality fabric. We also enter to the toy store and bought him his favorite truck car. I also bought him a big robot. He likes the toy so much. He can't wait to play it in our house. After we bought this we went to the chocolate store to buy bag of chocolates since he loves sweets. This is what I'd call a "working class" mall in the same way I'd describe Lincolnwood Town Center or Ford City Mall, except this mall is actually really pleasant, clean, and smaller than those malls. The location is easy to get to by bus, but it's far west enough in Norridge to make it a long haul from the lakefront (the #78 takes an hour fifteen from Montrose and Marine to the last stop--the mall). The food court has a good selection--Sbarros, Panda Express, McDonald's, Popeyes (nasty...read my other review of it), Gloria Jeans Coffee, a Dipping Dots, and a bunch of other fast food options. The hotspots are BestBuy, Target, Kohl's, FootLocker, Lids, Forever 21, Carson's, Bed Bath & Beyond, Victoria's Secret, Disney Store. As far as maintenance goes, the store is well kept. I've been coming to this mall since I was a little girl. It's a practical mall with your standard "mall stores" such as Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, Footlocker, and then it also comes with the larger chain department stores like Carson's, Kohl's, and Target. I like this mall because its not too big and doesn't have all those corners and wings in which you can get lost in. It's just one long corridor with stores to your left and to your right, with those pop up stands in between. Every store is easy to find. Another reason why I like coming here is because although small, you can find a store for every type of person. Adults, children, plus size, trendy, conservative, etc. It also has a food court with a lot of seating available and a good selection of eats. There's plenty of parking available, and if you get tired of the actual mall, across the street there is a strip mall available with stores such as Ulta and Old Navy. Experience: The HIP mall is located within the border of Chicago, which is the suburb of Norridge. Like many malls, the crowd appears to be very young, possibly high school students. The mall is only one level and is not big in size. Seems to be expanding with all the renovations taken place, so hopefully it may take a more modern look. Parking: Parking Lot is included with the mall. My recommendation is to go straight to the second level since it tends be easier to find spots there. Worth: It is definitely worth going if you need something quick. It has the basics (EX: Target, Kohl's, Forever 21, Victoria Secret, etc.) Area also includes Ulta across street from the mall. I don't have work today so I decided to go to a mall. I want to be alone without friends or family and I want to relax at the same time. When I enter the view inside looks lively because of lots of Christmas decor. I can see the large Christmas tree that filled with lights and around it was a box of gift. I went first to the massage spa area. Staff help me and accompanied me to some cubicle to start the massage. Staff who massage me was a girl so I will be comfortable. Her hands was soft and light. She's so goo at massaging. After a minutes I fell asleep without realizing it. She just woke me up when it was done. Kudos to the staff and the owner of the spa for the good work. I will be back here if I feel stressed and tired. read more

My previous experience in this mall is good. I was able to shop freely without any hassle or anything of any kind. I went to various stores, and in every store, I walked into I observed cleanliness, well-organized products, and most importantly, great customer service. I have no problem with the stores I visited, and in fact, I like the selection of some, especially the clothes and other stuff that I bought at a really great deal. The mall is not too busy, it is not full of people, and I am torn between being happy and sad about it. I am happy because it was a peaceful and convenient shopping experience, and sad because it is not the usual scene I usually see and it feels a bit boring. Even in the food court, when I got hungry, I ate in the food court, and there were like only 10 people in the food court, including me. I love the food that I ate though, and for me, it is great to eat in the food court of the mall and be able to shop in the mall after quite a long time. read more

I really don't know why it's so packed ALL THE TIME!!! It doesn't matter what time of day, day of week, time of year! It's jam packed all the time. There really aren't that many stores that are awesome or anything spectacular although there are a few kiosks that have quirky items that may or may not be worth a second glance. The food court is mostly edible if you happen to make it over to this location. Overall shopping experience: Highlights: Lane Bryant, although I don't need to visit this store any more thanks to my weight loss otherwise, the ladies there are super nice. Things Remembered: Big selection compared to some locations and are fortunate to employee some very helpful and nice ladies who work the floor and are engraving your purchases. Low-lights: Pretty much everything else is a hit or miss. Depends on what you're looking for and if there's a sale going on.
