    Were back!!
    Rawdon T.

This spot was a really nice place to visit. The first time we came here it was a bit u settling because restaurant just closed the kitchen to turn over for dinner and they did not have a cocktail menu at all, but after talking to one of the chefs who was enjoying an off duty drink we were delighted to stay the extra hour till the kitchen opened back up for dinner. This restaurant given their great food menu desperately needs a cocktail menu but after talking to the bartender he informed us that cocktails are not really big in Amsterdam and that they are mainly into beers. To drink I ordered a Jack and 7-up which i was told is a strange combination and to eat I ordered the spareribs which came with red coleslaw with raisins which was amazing, rice, and corn on the cob. Once i discovered that this was a winner i ordered the-exact same thing the very next night i came.

p.s. went for a second visit and was Served 'red boned' wings obviously Undercooked! And onion rings that Were from a processed giant bag. Fresh Onion rings are so simple a Monkey could make them. And Make them Krispy! Also when I Asked the 'waitress' for a to go Packing I was 'thrown' a plastic Bag with a foil box no lid and no Aluminum foil to wrap the box. As if a kitchen does not have a Box of foil? Which I wouldn't Had needed if the cook would Have actually fully cooked the Chicken Wings. Biting into a Piece of chicken and seeing Red made me 'See Red'!.

    Tomato soup - delish!

Someone suggested we try Harlem Soul Food and it lives up to the 4 star rating! It's a super cozy atmosphere, where we were welcome to sit at any table and promptly given menus. We split the tomato soup, the Archie Bells & the Wrap O'Clap. The tomato soup and the Archie Bells was delicious! The Wrap O Clap was a bit bland and boring, this is what brings the review down to 4 stars instead of 5. Totally worth it for a bite to eat! If you only order one thing make sure it's the TOMATO SOUP!

Food was good; nachos were great just needed more cheese for the ending but isn't that how it always goes‍ We came for a late lunch; I think the dinner service is probably more lively. Nice spot, I will visit again the next time I'm in Amsterdam.

The spicy chicken nachos and the goat cheese with honey salad were delicious. I asked for avocado to be added to my salad & they gave me a very generous amount. The servers were very sweet and it was nice to sit outside by the street and people watch. More cars than expected on the street, tons of bikes & mo-peds zooming by. This was definitely a great spot for a late lunch our first day in Amsterdam!!

Spare ribs, with Cole slaw. Saucy and tender infused with Jamaican spices.

Soul food in Amsterdam... put that in the name of an eatery and anyone will flock to it. Small place with great flavors plus a lil Jamaican flare. Difficult to get a table outside as they were full but we did enjoy the music inside. We tried the Spicy chicken nachos (these are a must) as a starter, Jerk chicken and spare ribs for dinner. Lots of flavor and large potions. Service is a lil slow but very friendly, enjoy the music while you wait or talk to other guest. The ambiance in this place makes up for the lack of quick service.

Jerk chicken with purple coleslaw, plantains rice and salad

While vacationing away from home, I'm always curious to taste food that reminds me of home. I know there are Dutch cuisines, but I was interested in knowing their take on soul food. My boyfriend and myself searched yelp and came across this place. When walking in you can tell this place is popular, it was full when we got here. At first you would be a little turned off by the lack of communication and attentiveness from the bartenders/waitress/ hostess. We almost had one drink and left. However upon sitting there for a bit, the bartender and chef chatted us up and we decided to stay. I'm glad we did, we came twice and both times the meal was good. I ordered the jerk chicken that came with a small salad, rice and purple coleslaw. That coleslaw was absolutely delicious, i have reservations to make that myself. The next day I ordered the fish dish which was a little under seasoned but still nicely cooked. One gripe I would say is they need a drink menu that offer popular cocktail options, other than that, we ate there twice, and if ever back in Amsterdam, I will eat there everyday.

Its not typical soulfood...but it serves its purpose. I got the jerk chicken...which came with rice, cabbage, mashed sweet potatoes, white beans and peppers. Only after mixing together did the flavors compliment each other. The jerk isn't spicy and yields more to spicy bbq chicken. But again, it adapts to the local palette. So it was just perfect. I didn't order the nachos and i know the menu will not be appealing to those who are accustomed to soulfood. But give it a try :).

My "home" bar in the area. They are always playing 60's and 70's Classic rock and the beer is always cold. There is usually an American cook downstairs so the nachos are on point. Rest of the food is decent and fresh. It is a quiet place off the main drag with friendly smiles and nice atmosphere. If I happened to be here (which is highly likely) I will gladly buy you a beer.

Sat 10 min in a bunch of cigarette smoke to get up and leave with no service. This is one of the worst places to stop if you have a family.

The food was wayyyy better than what I expected, honestly the jerked chicken was the best food I've had since traveling around Europe.

They have a waterfront terrace where you can pull up your boat and grab a drink, bites to eat, etc. If you prefer the shade, they also have a nice size patio. Inside there are plenty of seats for groups to dine. The plan was lunch at Staring at Jacob, practically across the canal, and we saw the glorious terrace and literally stopped in our tracks. So glad we did. Sun worshipers you will not be disappointed. And the food was pretty darn good to boot. For lunch, an open face roast beef sandwich and a salad with quinoa, beets, pomegranate and feta. Good sized portions and even larger flavor. Middle ranged prices too. Their menu for dinner features chicken off the spit (rotisserie). Can't wait to try it.

Amsterdam Kookt was a great use of the space at Olympisch stadium. It was my first time at an event here and I was very impressed by the number of options. There were a number of big sponsors such as Juniper and Leffe and representation from the stalls you might know from De Foodhallen along with some exciting new options. It was set up that you used coins to pay for things which would yield quicker transactions when busy. We went on Sunday, the last day which was also Mothers' Day and it wasn't crazy busy which was quite nice for a Sunday afternoon. There were a lot of good looking food options, notably a high number of Sushi options, a Satay Bar, 1-3 Mexican options. There was a gourmet hotdog bar and at least three good burger options including the Butcher and the one we tried. I noted a Johnny Doodle chocolate (love it! Check it out and their ethos if you don't know them yet) and an ice cream truck too. There was a churros van, gin and tonics, wine. The Funkavan was cool complete with a better looking scooby doo dancing guy. There were at least two other music stages, the main one and the one in the Juniper area. Stoke stacks were on hand in the Juniper "smoke pit area". Very mad max meets Steampunk themed - a no-no area for vegetarians and vegans. There was a lot of meat around including a whole pig laid out on "display". I must admit, the sight of this put even me off my meat a bit. We opted for the XL meatlovers burger which had pulled pork, a rare burger with tasty aged meat (they made a point of ensuring all customers knew this and warned you up front), bacon, and a super tasty coca-cola or bourbon slow cooked pork chop as a dressing on top the burger. This was a lot of meat but good. My husband was very happy with this choice. There was a chickpea van with vegan options that looked good too. It was good to see a number of vegan friendly options with so much meat around. I'd come back with more people on the Friday or Saturday afternoon/evening :)

There…read moreare all kinds of food trucks available including burgers, smoothies, milkshakes, soul food, pizza, frites, sweet treats, BBQ, some of your favorite restaurants and a few stalls you would recognize from De Foodhallen (http://www.yelp.com/biz/de-foodhallen-amsterdam). Of course there is beer and wine, and if you look around, you can find some cocktails too! There's a lot of space to walk around and isn't as cramped as some of the other festivals. I love the industrial feel of the area and the different sections of trucks. It's a little bit of a maze, but it pretty much follows one flow, so you shouldn't get too turned around. To get to the end is quite a walk. The location was good being right off the ferry from Centraal or the Westerdoks. It is well-marked and has space for bikes. But if you are coming from the ferry, I would just leave your bike where you got on. There is music along with some small and some large stages for you to enjoy. Only downside to the main (big) stage was it was all standing room. I think it would be more inviting with chairs, or high tops to stand around and eat on. The festival works on a token system (like many of them do) and there were registers along the way--not just at the entrance. And there were machines to insert cash to get your tokens. That might help quicken things. But the registers also take pin cards. It seemed that most items were between 2-3 tokens, and they do have half tokens as well. You can find a few items for 1-1.5 tokens and drinks are usually 2-3 tokens. These tokens are 2.50 each, but it's a festival and everything is overpriced. And in case you aren't aware, most people in Amsterdam speak English, so you will be fine if you don't speak Dutch. If you like this festival, check out Rollende Keukens (http://www.yelp.com/biz/rollende-keukens-amsterdam), TREK (http://www.yelp.com/biz/foodtruckfestival-trek-amsterdam), and Food Soul Festival (http://www.yelp.com/map/food-soul-festival-amsterdam).
