(On a brief sidebar - I have no interest in motorcycles at all. God Bless those who still ride but to me the more wheels you have on the asphalt the better.) This is one that I wanted to do for a while. Why? No reason other than factory tours completely fascinate me especially the ones where you can get on to the production line and see things up close. The last part was unfortunately blown out of the water as the York plant has the production line closed off for tours this summer due to heavy construction going on everywhere since H-D decided to begin shutting down their KC plant and move some of the operation here. I think the Steel Toe Tour and being able to get on to the line itself on the Classic Tour will be returning at the end of next month but with work, kids in school and tours operating only M-F plus living two plus hours away...it is what it is. So for the Classic Tour you go to the front counter and sign yourself in. The tour entrance opens at 9 and the first tour starts at 9:30. We were on that one and it had around 20-25 people but either way it was announced as being full. You start with a short movie that explains the company's history and overall it's a really well done PR piece. Then you move over to getting safety goggles, your ear piece so that you can hear the guide and a lecture about no cameras or phones which they take really, really seriously. The part of the factory you can currently tour mostly relates to the frame and fuel tank. We saw the robots pressing the fenders from sheets of steel, some welding work from a distance, the end result of painting and people plugging holes on the tanks before they get painted. There are lots of people everywhere but most are headed to line which right now you can't see. The area you currently can see is either highly automated or had people standing around doing nothing/waiting for the robotic carts to bring them something. The whole thing was done in 40ish minutes. The thing our group got the most was regularly barked at that we were lagging too far behind and were stretched out too far. The old woman doing the tour certainly was knowledgeable but she had zero personality and ran the tour more like a prison guard (I'll tell you partially why later). She really needs to relax about the lagging thing when you have 20+ people and you have to walk only in straight lines one behind the other. How the hell close can you really get or do you really want to get with people you don't know in that format? After the tour is over everyone is given a $5 off of $20 coupon for not being able to experience the entire tour and while that I suppose is a nice gesture, it doesn't get you very far with the prices charged at their store. Lots of stuff for sale but totally whack prices. Thanks but I'll stick with the free pin they give you for taking the tour as it lists the year and location. Good enough for cheap ass me. Opinion time here: H-D as a company is screwed at least domestically. Their base ridership demo is getting too old to ride and their prices are very prohibitive for the next generation to be able to even get into something starter let alone where the prices can get to. Looking long term into the push for driverless vehicles, in a generation or two I don't see how they can survive or adapt. Maybe they need to do what a company like Martin Guitar does. Make the cheap lesser models in Mexico or another country and then re-import them but still keep the regular production line in the US going for the hardcore lifers. It works for Martin but based on what we were told on the tour H-D hasn't figured that out yet. Their big push is to make all the parts in this country then ship them as kits to say Thailand where they can be assembled there and sold in other countries to avoid tariffs. Clearly it's not working. So what made the tour guide a bit grumpy at the beginning? She asked the group how many people have ever owned a bike? The answer was one. Was that one guy a current rider? No Was he too old or infirmed? No, he was in his mid-30's When he did ride, was it a H-D? No It says something that out of 20-25 on the tour there were no current riders, H-D owners or anyone interested in being a prospective H-D owner. That my friends is the huge glaring problem they face right there. I've done enough factory tours to know that usually the people who want to come to visit you are the die hards or at least the people who buy/use the product. Pretty rare for it to be a total apathetic goose egg. At some point maybe I'll come back to see the entire tour but it took me XX years to do this one so who knows how long it will be or what H-D will look like by then? If you go: The Classic Tour is free. The Steel Toe Tour is very much not. The below link has the address, times and prices. www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/about-us/visit-us/yorkpa.html

Amazing and Awesome!!! The Steel Toe Tour is Absolutely worth it if you are a Harley Enthusiast! My wife and I really enjoyed the tour. Our Tour Guide Phil was great, very informative and friendly!! The operation and functioning of the Harley assembly line is truly amazing. The system, structure and details of putting a bike together is really something to see. The gift shop ladies (Lee and Andi) were so sweet and helpful. We really enjoyed there hospitality and enthusiasm in explaining things to us and giving us ideas of what areas of York to go check out. We will definitely return to the area, especially to come back to the Harley factory.

3 Harley-Davidson assembly plants in the USA. Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Kansas City, Missouri; York, Pennsylvania. Had no idea. I just came to this region of the country to visit friends. They wanted to go on the tour. I was just visiting. May I say - I'm not a motorcycle guy. It doesn't really interest me. But this was a neat tour. And the best part, it was 100% free. No cost. And you get to go through the entire plant and see how they fabricate the steel and manufacture the motorcycles. Very impressive. They also have a steel-toed boot tour that costs $35. I cannot see why it costs that much and why you would choose to do that tour over the free one. The free one gave you everything you could want. Totally neat. 100% Americana. If you're in the area, make an effort to visit.

I recently was traveling the country on my bike, and while in PA, decided to detour over to where my bike was actually put together - and man I'm glad I did! This is a HUGE facility in York...and the primary plant where touring bikes are put together. Only a few things are actually made here...tanks and fenders - everything else is just "built". HD has a GREAT one hour tour that runs regularly - something to note, no cameras allowed on tour...they WILL confiscate until the tour is over, and all cell phones must be off and in pocket (they take this seriously). That aside....a definitely awesome tour of an assembly plant. Well put together, fascinating, and very cool to see bikes being moved from frame to dock. Well worth it if you're in the area.

This is located on route 30 eastbound, just off of the i-83 exit. not too far from harrisburg. there are lots of signs directing you how to get there and theres a huge parking lot. Best factory tour in pennsylvania. you dont get to ride a motorcycle or anything, but they do take you on a 45 minute tour of the factory, it's real life, you get goggles and a radio and earpiece, you take a guided tour around the factory and watch how all the parts are made and assembled. this is only one of two harley davidson plants in the united states, and the only american motorcycle company still in operation. they give you a free postcard that they'll mail anywhere in the world, thats pretty neat. plus a button that says you've been there.

York PA Harley Davidson is there CVO and touring bike factory. The tour was great. See bikes being built from top to bottom and watching lean manufacturing at its finest. The tour guide was very knowledgable and covered everything. We wore an ear piece to be able to hear everything. Of course they had a gift shop at the end.

We came with intentions of getting the factory tour. Unfortunately they were not doing an assembly line tour because of the 2016 models on the line. Also be advised ladies, they will not allow you on the tour if you have sandals on. Must have tennis shoes or closed toed shoes. There was a mini tour you could walk yourself with small TV screens with pretty much all the Same info as what you would get on the guided tour. The store was small but had a lot of merchandise with a lot of baby, toddler and child items.

Fantastic tour. I'm not a "motorcycle guy" by any means, but found it all to be very interesting and exciting. Highly recommend a visit.

So I took it back to them and said I had a leak. They changed me to take it out on the lake and to do testing at the shop and they told me they didn't see a leak. I took my boat out Wednesday and again started taking on water as soon as I dropped it in the water. I never really paid attention to it because these guys assured me nothing was wrong.Well I nearly sunk the boat and I blew one of my motors because it got waterlogged! This is going to cost me in the thousands!! So I called them and tried to let them see my side. They refuses to help me find a motor, and didn't even give me my money back for something they overlooked! They charged me 900 to change a stater!!! It's 90 bucks on eBay!! But I paid it! I'm going to look for a lawyer and I don't care if I win or lose. It's about customer care! Your supposed to take care of them by doing good work for a reasonable price!! See you in court Don.
