I booked a car for 14:00, arrived at 16:30 while the office was still open, and was told the manager had left. The manager claimed he tried calling me, but I had no missed calls. He and customer service both told me to go to Heathrow to collect the same car. I went there. Heathrow refused to give me a similar car. The next morning I was told I can go to the original branch, then told the car was no longer available, then told there were no similar cars at all. During all of this, SIXT's own website still showed the same car available for the same dates from the same branch. I lost hours, transport costs, and the support I needed on a tight work schedule. The worst part was the mixed messages and the lack of honesty. If you need reliability or clear communication, look somewhere else.

Generally London is not a city in which you need a car (unless you have kids that is) but there are…read morethose times when you are scrabbling through your address book trying to find the person you knew who had an estate because your mate is giving you a free mattress that you have agreed to take, but can't transport or when you are having a big summer bbq to celebrate the fact that you have a nice new big garden with your new flat, but are trying to figure out how to get the bbq back from B&Q, never mind the burgers and the booze. That's when these car co's may be of use. There are two that I have come accross, streetcar and Zip cars (which I think is American). Basically you pay a yearly fee of around £50 and then you can just book a car - the same day if you wish - and pay around £6 or 7 an hour to use it. With Streetcar you pay by the half hour and you get 30 miles free per 24hrs (so you don't have to pay for petrol within those miles) with Zip you pay by the hour but get 60 miles per 24hrs free. I'm not really sure if these are better than a cab - for short jouneys or a regular hire car - unless you are gonna use them a lot and so are cutting out the admin - but it's your call, good idea, but maybe not cheap enough to really make it a go-er.

However, returning a vehicle today I was stuck by a number of things. Firstly, how supremely excellent Enterprise are at customer service. From the courtesy call before I pop in to get the vehicle to ensure I have all my documents. To the staff in this branch who are incredibly friendly and professional - and appear to also be having a lot of enjoyment working there - a great team it would appear. Thinking about it, the Park Royal car hire place is actually extremely easy to get to - a few mins walk from Harlesden which is on both the bakerloo and Overground line. After yet another great experience this weekend I've decided I simply won't hire a car from anywhere else but here.

Howard (the owner) was able to accommodate me and my guest without a problem. He got me a quote quickly and let me know a driver would be waiting for me at the airport. Alf came to pick us up in an immaculate S 550 sedan. He gave us a great tour of some of the sights in the city, and had great historical facts and stories to go along with every sight. His passion for the city really brought the trip to life. This layover could have easily been wasted time, but thanks to Alf and Howard it started our trip off perfectly! We got a great car for England and the staff was incredibly helpful…read more We are visiting from the states and normally we just get whatever car is the cheapest and we usually forgo the extra insurance because it's a waste of money. However, the gentleman recommended we upgrade the car and bundled the diamond/platinum 0 liability insurance or whatever. I was inclined to refuse, but on second thought I really didn't want to have to mess around with international phone calls and the time difference and dealing with the powers that be in the U.K. should an incident occur. It would have been too much of a hassle so I accepted the insurance. AND BOY WAS IT WORTH IT. We went from a tiny coupe to a slightly less tiny Mini Countryman. It was still a tight fit for 4 people plus luggage but it got the job done. We have t mobile and thus have unlimited international internet but once we got to rural England, the reception was spotty at best-- not the best situation to be in when you're relying on your phone as a navigation system. The built in navigation system was thus a godsend! Additionally, the upgraded car came with an automatic transmission. I read in wikimedia commons that it was good to have a smaller standard transmission to navigate the tiny roads, but the automatic really came through in the clutch (pun intended). We had to back into some really tight spots, and to do so uphill and backwards while using the shifter with your left hand would have been near impossible. So yes, paying the extra £13 or whatever per day kind of sucked but at the same time having the peace of mind while being stuck between a wall and a lorry speeding toward you from the opposite direction on a 16' wide road makes the insurance completely worth it. Thank you Sixt for knowing what I needed before I even realized it needed it. You saved our vacation and quite possibly our marriage by giving us the upgrade w/navigation, auto and the insurance. Job well done!

However when we returned the car, we filled full of tank of gas , and requested for receipt , then we knew the total price different than our original booking . and the manager promised to credit the fuel charge and invested others, but never did . They pretended dead without responding our email or money . As a business , not trustworthy, and has no interiority .

I recommend going with a vendor without the policy. It is fully within their policy as you can see attached. But it's not a great policy in general and I've found it better to use other options. It's a business expense for me so it's not about the money, it's the logistics of wanting to submit the expense once and not have to go back. I have been charged by them for making them wait at the hotel a few minutes and that's completely understandable and we paid cash to driver and didn't bother to expense that. But this charge at the airport, I dislike as a policy. Since I'm updating, we also had a few drivers that were not great (not a huge percentage though) but did have one really scary driver in Feb 2017, which warranted an email. It's time we moved on.
