When I hear "motel", I think cheap. This place is anything but! The rooms are extremely clean, wonderfully appointed, and the patios outside the rooms are beautifully landscaped with walls separating each patio from the one next to it. The rooms are comfortable with updated furniture, a Keurig, small refrigerator and microwave, a very large TV, a beautiful large walk-in shower, and an electric fireplace. We could not be more pleased!!

If your looking for a 5star stay this is not it. It's more of a family/friend environment and nothing flashy. Literally you would be sitting in a room that's very similar to a kitchen at home talking over breakfast with pancakes and maple syrup. Something that feels like your at home away from home.

It is right downtown, so within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and other businesses. Maybe the girl at the front desk wouldn't win Miss Congeniality, but we had no problems with her. She just obviously is not into her job. This is a beautiful, historic building, and frankly much less expensive than the motel we first checked into. Even though we had already paid at the Maple Leaf Motel, this hotel was much, much better, and the Irish pub attached is a definite plus! Pros: - pretty views of the square - comfortable beds! - close to everything downtown - beautiful, historic building (rooms very basic, but spacious) - Irish pub attached Cons: - no coffee maker in the room and continental breakfast is not available until 8:30 am. No coffee offered in the lobby either. - needs soundproofing! We could hear a child running back and forth across the floor above us for about a half hour after we went to bed. - the rooms/furniture really need updating. - front desk staff not welcoming.

Issues with this hotel: The front desk for the most part is…read morenot staffed, so you have to check in through the attached pub and have no way to resolve issues.   We booked and paid for two rooms at Hotel Bedford on HotelsOne in January.  When we checked in to our rooms in early June, an additional fee was added to our credit card which we assumed was a security deposit.  After the charge was not removed prior to posting to our card we contacted the hotel and were told they had no record of being paid by HotelsOne so therefore would not refund us. Since then we contacted HotelsOne and they said that they had in fact paid Hotel Bedford and that they would contact them on our behalf which they did.  They called us back and told us to email the general manager of Hotel Bedford with a copy of our credit card statement showing that we had paid for the rooms through HotelsOne and an additional amount at check in.  They have never responded to this.  We have emailed and called and left messages several times since, but have never been able to reach the GM and no one has called us back.   The hotel itself is very dated and in bad condition (mould in the shower, electrical outlets are so old that when you plug into them the cord falls out again). Would definitely not recommend this hotel.  If I could give negative stars I would.

At first glance, it looks like the charming brick building is the motel. I should have investigated further. The rooms are actually in the motel strip that surrounds the parking lot. The description claimed they had one queen room available with a patio. Yeah. Right. The price on TripAdvisor said $144 for tonight. The actual cost was $247 for the night, which supposedly was a discount because of rainy weather. That should have been the red flag I needed, but because we had decided at the last minute to stay the night in Godrich, and supposedly they only had one room left, we went ahead and booked it. Big mistake! It truly is a "motel". The brick house I'm assuming is where the couple lives who are at the front desk. I am also assuming that they wrote all the positive reviews! The first room they put us in had a towel in the bathroom that obviously had been used by someone who had extremely dirty hands! I took the towel back into the office and they gave us a different room. Again, very nice people, but that's where it ends. I had started to check out the Bedford hotel in downtown Goderich, but the first review I saw said, "it's okay". I'm thinking that review was written by the people at the motel as well. We paid for our room at the motel, but once we visited the Bedford Hotel, we ended up staying here, so we paid a lot more money for one night, (simply because we had already paid for the motel room first - the Bedford was actually considerably cheaper and better!), but it was so worth it for the difference! The Bedford hotel is an old hotel, but the rooms are spacious and clean, and it has an Irish pub attached to the hotel. Please save your money and do not stay at the Maple Leaf Motel.
